Barry sounds like you had a Great time
...
I took the "Do" to the field this morning, along with that other plane(S.T.) but after
maiding the S.T. I was a bit burned out... so I did not fly her.... The "other" plane
flew good.. two clicks Lt. ail and down and she flew level... But she was a bit touchy,
inverted hands off flt. had a pretty good climb rate.... So guess I'm a bit tail heavy..
My YS-110 quit on me about 25' from the runway on my approach, But she landed
smooth as silk..... On high rate rolls.........WOW, Did I say WOW.. you can't see the
wings it's so fast... Overall I like it...... Will like it more once I move the battery up
some, Ohh and I never find out about the slight problem with the elevator

This is on the UCD 46 right?
All I can say is Oh My, you should be able to hover at idle. Did you have to do any mods to the firewall? How did the plane balance with that large engine? How does the cowl fit? What mount did you use. I've bee thinking about putting a YS 91 on mine but didn't think it would fit.

rtn9105...No, no, no... What do you think? I'm crazy? I have an 82 on my 46. The 110 is on the 60. The 82 is plenty on the 46 but gjeffers (you know, the power hungry guy) uses the 100. I think if you are going to overpower the 46, the 100 is plenty. The 110 would probably tear the thing apart.
I did fly yesterday in heavy winds. The UCD flys just fine even in the wind. I just really enjoy that plane. I flew my Mayhem 40 for a few minutes but the wind blew that thing around too much. Wasn't even fun.
Anyways, have a great week guys.
Thanks
Barry

Cant believe there are still people out there who dont know about elev-spoileron mix AND increasing the ail. travel to get the Do to harrier. You need both to lock in. Both my 46 and 60 harrier & elevator now that Ive made the changes.(its in the 60UCD threads) I got to admit that the 46 doesnt like much wind for harriers, the 60 is better in wind but I still prefer to do it on calmer days, that locked in flight makes you very comfortable with tail touches & landings,I wont do them if its rocking. Anyone just beginning to harrier a Do should do it on calm days,(I know there isnt many)if its not locking in then the plane or radio needs something more. In fact, this past Sunday I did another harrier landing and some tail touches,God I love the high risk stuff-I think I need help. Other than the OS108 sagging once, I had no problems torque rolling. Just had to richen the low end a little, wonder if my cut-outs in the cowl are big enough? It is getting warmer, could be heat issue? The 60 Do torque rolls intermittantly, have to keep it in a tight sweet spot to get it going but sometimes its unreal how fast it rolls, almost like someone slapped the wing tip. I noticed it does this when just beginning to drop lower in a hover too. Its coool. I keep thinking about the Giant Do,I've got a Brison 2.4 but its going in a Ultra- RC Giles first.
I need to fly some other planes to prove a point I think. Some of my club-mates think the Do is a bit of a crutch, like I'm cheating or something. I say, if I'm torque rolling, harriers,HA KE,ect... who cares??!! If they arent doing that, maybe they should get one!!!

Hey "Do" People...
Well I finally changed out my top tailwires on the tail.. So it's all Kevlar string now, I
also switched to the last receiver that I got back from Hitec for a check up... So it's
the best it "can" be... Unable to test due to high winds... Maybe in the AM....
I hope so, I need to get both planes setup by the 20th... So I can take both("Do" &
Showtime) to the funfly in Kingman.....
Man talk about tailheavy.... I had my showtime 6v battery just infront of the tail servos
when I maiden.. (And after some help from friends found out you can't use the C.G. and
just line it out to the wing tips on swept back wings)
So balanceing it the right way
my 6v is now just aft and below the wing tube... WOW... Thats something like 25-35"
forward from my starting position, Knew she was touchy, But I thought she landed good
It's a wonder she made it home after two flights like that......
Be Good people.....

It's been windy here too in the afternoons. I can see outside sometimes at work and in the mornings it looks great. Sun's out, nice calm day, and then the wind increases. ARRRRGGGHHHH..........[>:] One day last week, I got to the field and everyone was just standing around chatting because it was just too windy to fly. It's been a little better this week. Gotta get some more stick time in. [8D]

Hey everyone:-))))))))))))))
Well I got 6 flts in on the showtime..... I like it:-)))) She's charging for the AM just
incase....
I flew my "Do" twice with the ant, where it should be.... No go
(( I had glitches on
both flts, I did try a third flt., But just after takeoff, my double roll after liftoff and banking
down wing she really had a "BAD" glitch... So I landed and put her up... Guess I'll try
switching the three servos in the tail, But until I do, which I'm not sure when... I'll keep
taping the ant. to the wing
((((((((..... It's "HOT"..............
Gary.... It's been windy through out the day, then nothing late evening... I started to look
for lights to put on my planes
)))..... Today at the field a member said he was flying the
other day, I said in the wind, the trees were almost coming apart at my house at 5:30.. he
said no wind for two flts... I find it so funny.... No hills, tall buildings etc for the 5 mins it
takes me to get to the field and it happens like that???? But it will show up, and it's best
that your down when it does..... Spent about 7hrs at the field today... It was nice and Hot..
hope the same for the AM....

raideron...First radio had a problem right from the factory. I had to send it in for service. This one is working good. I'm been setting up my Giant tonight. I got full spectrum ailerons, flaps, spoilerons, flaperons, air brakes, crow, elevators that act as ailerons. It's been very tedious to set it up. But, I'm taking notes and the next planes won't be nearly so time consuming.
It does make mixes much easier to understand and set up. It will be pretty cool when I start using it. My first attempt will be with the Giant. I should have that baby ready to fly on Wednesday or so. I'm completely done except mounting the engine and balance. I've even got all the trimming done on the radio now. This is a very pretty airplane. Just like it's little brothers. But this thing is HUGE. My intial weights with every thing should be right at 12lbs. The manual says 12.5. If this holds true this will be the first plane I've built that weighed less than expected. (refreshing) If the OS160FX is enough to fly at this elevation this will be a sweet flying airplane. I can't wait to try it.
Thanks
Barry

Barry, your excitement drips from your words. We'll want pictures, videos, and testimonials.
Oh, and have you tried to get that huge bird out of your shop yet?
Good luck!

I've got a couple of neighborhood boys hired to help carry it out to the truck. It is longer than the bed of my pick up (short bed) so I'll have to leave the end gate down just to carry it. Our club's runway is only 600' long. I hope that's enough. The control surfaces are just flat BIG. It looks so cool to see them all move and you can only imagine the stress on the surfaces.
It's gonna be interesting.
I'll post some pictures tomorrow and when I maiden this baby you'll all know.
Thanks
Barry

Barry... Yeah... Once you get use to the new radio, their hard to beat... I really like
the copy feature, makes it easy for future add-ons!! Man I hate waiting for something
then have to send it back and start the wait all over again... I always call and "try" to
see if they will send the replacment as I send the other back.... No luck so far on that:-(
GIANT "DO" She'll be fun and easy to see...... Bet she will fly nice!!

Barry, your going to love the Giant Do, it's just a fun fun plane to fly. It does most everything that the 46 can do, just allot slower due to it's size and KE is 100% better, no coupling at all and it slows down and lands as easy as the 46. It doesn't tumble like the 46 but it is 7 feet long.

rtn9105...You sound like you have experience with the Giant. Do you have one? What engine? Weight?
I've got the engine mounted and I'm cutting the cowl tonight. I'll mount the fuel tank and the throttle servo and balance. That should be it. Maybe this evening I'll have the weight and get it balanced.
Plan is to maiden on Wednesday if I can sneek out for a long lunch. Gonna be hot that day. Maybe mid 80s. Gjeffers would be melting in his shoes at that temp.
Anyways, really looking forward to flying the Giant. I was reading the breakin procedures on the engine. They say just run one tank full before you fly it. Make sure you have a reliable idle and then go for it. They also say it will take 10 flights or so to complete the breakin procedure. They don't realize that many of my planes don't last 10 flights. Anyways, I'll run the engine in the plane tied to a post for one tank. Then I'll fly it to destruction. Or 10 flights...whichever comes first.
Thanks
Barry

Barry, I flew this plane most all last summer and really liked it allot but I sold it over the winter to fund other projects. I started out flying it with a Saito 180, it had good power but I had allot of problems with the Saito flooding due to it being inverted and the carb being lower than the tank. About mid summer I switched to a ZDZ 40 and the small gasser on this plane is just amazing and in my opinion the best setup for this plane but if I was going to set one up for glow again I think I'd go the same way you are with the 160fx. No matter what engine you use, if you like either of the smaller UCD's your going to love the Giant.
I never weighed the plane but it balanced with both engine setups just by moving the battery around.
