BradSD... Great Info above as always!!!.... I've had a YS 63, S-100 and the S-82 on my "Do's"
loved them all..... The S-82 is on my "Do" now.... But thinking about the S-100 again.....

Dang it, no flying time again..... Maybe in the A.M..... But it's showing 10-20mph, which means 15-
25 by 7-8am...... This year, the heat has more than the wind has slowed my flying time....

I love that about Great Planes and Tower Hobbies. They have a wonderful product in the UCD. It's affordable and...when you need parts, you can buy them, they are in stock and they are reasonably priced. What a deal.

Try buying a stab for an EF Yak sometime.

Makes a great plane, even greater.

Maybe they should by named "Greater Planes"

I will say though...I've never bought any parts for a UCD. Everytime I needed parts...it was cheaper/easier to just buy a new plane.

Thanks for the quick responses, I will give the Supertiger G-90 the task. Guess I will just hang on to the .46 I ordered for it I'm sure I can find something to stick it in.

These guys ar right on about the power you need to really have fun with 46 UCD. Word of warning. ST's don't seem to run inverted very well, especially with the tank higher than carb center. A guy at our field tried and tried, then gave in and turned his right side up and it ran great, plenty of power.

Don't know how well set you are on high torque, fast acting servos, but you might want to trade that .46 in on some for the UCD. It really needs some torque on the rudder. 90+ oz. and don't forget to put something 50+ oz. in the rest of the plane. And for hovers, (and other manuevers) speed is handy as well since you have to make several quick adjustments to keep it on it's tail, any under .20 sec. should be OK, under .15 would be great. Kinda like balancing a broom on your palm, real quick small adjustments to keep it nose-up. For the price of one decent servo I went to a 6 volt RX battery to help all my servos on both fronts.

And if you hang around here at the forum very long, you may as well get your $229 out cause your really going to want that Saito 82! I did pretty much what you did, I bought the OS Max .50 SX (same HP as the 82 but it's 2-stroke qualities render it almost useless for 3d in this plane, it's full power is at twice the RPM of the 4 strokes) and that OS engine costs $160!!!!! I coulda had a V8! I hadn't even flown the plane and smelled the coffee here, so with the help of the guys here on the thread, I found a great deal on one and bit the bullet. I want to enjoy this plane to the limits! The Saito motor, by the way, is fantastic! I've been smiling this silly smile ever since I got the thing! The OS Max .50 went on a Four Star 40 I'm building back up (had to scratch build a new wing) from days of old for my son. I'm sure you could find something for your Supertiger, too.

Great to hear about your entry into the U-Can-Do world, and welcome to the best thread out there! These guys are great. If you ever get some time, try to go back through the last 20 pages or so. There's tons of information for you. Especially the tips of the modifications for strengthening your plane. No. 1 on the list is...it's weak in the landing gear area, a great fix is there for you and one I am sure everyone will agree, you should do. The other stuff is practical but not absolutely vital, tail wires, hinge covering (to keep air from getting in between your stabs and your control surfaces which cause flutter) and a few other things. Pictures are posted of almost every mod and they are perfectly helpful. I spent over a month here on the thread before I even started building the plane! Not one piece of bad advice! That's pretty dog gone good in my book!

Thanks for the information, I did order the 6v battery with the plane to give the servos a little pop. I did see a few of the mods you listed in a quick scan of the forum, I do intend to go back thru them before I start construction. Finally a day off so I will probably do some reading today as I wait for the UPS man to show up.

Mine is at 5 5/8" back from leading edge of wing. I like it there still very stable and will flat spin like no other. I can do a rising inverted flat spin. My favortite maneuver. Well...not counting the inverted flat spin landing.

Flys so nice there you won't believe it. It's very easy to land. No problems what so ever.

I love the 60. When I put the YS110 on it...it just made it a different plane. It will water fall very tight, flat spin, KE is hard but doable, hovers are simple, rolling circles are the easiest of all my plane and look so nice. I just love it.

I had a Saito 100 on it for a year. I loved it with that engine. I didn't think it could get any better. But it did. The mighty 110 was a huge improvement. The Saito 125 would be another excellent choice. But remember...I live at 4800' elevation. If are near sea level you will be better. But...the more HP is a pleasent deal indeed. It really does improve the plane. Night and Day difference.

It's early in the morning here and I'm just about off to work. But, I thought about something I thing would be really neat.

In my ongoing quest to find/build new airplanes I thought to myself...Self...why doesn't Great Planes make the UCD in a biplane version. Wouldn't that be cool? I noticed QQ has a biplane version of the Yak. It's a very neat looking plane, but, it's a 44%. Big.

A UCD46 bipe and 60 bipe. Great Planes would have a winner I believe. They should pick up on that.

No it's not hard on the engines. At least it's not hard on Saitos or YSs. In fact YS recommends a minimum of 20% and say the more the better.

I like the 30%. At my elevation it really helps give me all the power possible. I'm probably still less horsepower than you are with 15%. But I also notice a lot better transition and idle. It seems I use max throttle a little bit less also. So I feel I get a tad bit better fuel economy. So...that helps offset the extra cost.

However...the 30% can be very addictive.

Hi all, Great day... a bit cooler and little to no wind up till about 9am ...
Got about 5-6 great flts on the "Do"... I went back to the 14x4W and T.T.
but it was vibrating again.. So tried it without the spinner, then went to
the 13x4W, spinner nut, same thing.... So my noisy but great flying "Do"
will keep the noise[:@]..... I'm filing it with my glitch files and storing in
the X files... I may fix and try my spare wing...

Barry...... "Do" Bipe..... Now that's thinking!!! Maybe if we all send that
thought to G.P. It may become reality..........

I heard Mag's do not like anything above 15%?????? I was told they would
run too hot..... Here I do not see "that" much of a difference between 15-20%
But I only tried it once..... But I'm still thinking of running my YS's on the 20
and all else on 15.......

I sent the idea of a UCD biplane to Great Planes as they have a spot on their website to suggest airplanes. They sent me a response that stated they appreciated the idea and if anything ever come of it they'd let me know. Form letter I think. Anyways, I think it would be a neat idea. Shorten the wingspan a bit and make two wings, maybe get the wing loading down a bit.

Barry that's a GREAT idea. I'm not a biplane guy but if they made a bipe UCD I'd be waiting in line to get one. Since I'm going to put a Satio 100 on my next Do, I think a bipe would have to get at least the 125 or maybe the 150.
