gjeffers, You'll need to go to the larger mounts GP60-120 if you are mounting any engine larger than the Saito 82. You are correct, with the 100 in it you will truly have a BAD BOY!!!! If you put 30% in that baby she'll really sing. You may even do the inverted flat spin landing!?!?!?!?
Thanks,
Barry
PS: Went flying last night with my 60 size. I'm still trimming this one out but I really enjoyed it. Still like the way the 46 flys a little better. But I could hover and was doing some nice rolling circles. And the knife edge coupling stunt is like no other!!!!!

Another tip to anyone that cares. When you mount the engine inverted, proper way, you tend to have fuel leaks when the tank is full and you are just sitting. This is more true with the big one than the little one, but can still be a problem on the 46. Just loop the carb fuel line to where it almost touchs the cowl on top and than back down to the nipple on the carb. This creates an air gap and lessens the siphon effect a great deal. I tried this on my 60 last night and had no leaks, NO LEAKS!!!!! And even more important, I didn't have any fuel pick up problems either. And believe me, the way I fly if I was going to have a problem I would have had a problem. This is an unbeliveable easy fix to an old problem. Try it, it works. No cost and simple. You can't beat that.
Thanks,
Barry

hey Barry, part of the reasoning in putting the 100 in a 46 is i wont have to buy 30% no more for power, thanks for the info. i have the mounts for me and my son already so i will redo firewall and re-blindnut it and use larger mounts, only one flatspin landing per session guys

thanks for your 2cents to SPUD37[sm=greedy.gif]good luck w/your ucd, will start posting pics as soon as i start my build.

raideron, Hi, I don't think the YS has any leakage problems. I have a couple of the 110 and they are great that way. In fact, they are great in every way. But the Saitos can leak a little when mounted inverted. The 46 isn't so bad because the tank is physically lower but the 60 is worse. But that little trick with the loop in the fuel line really works. It stopped mine completely. Man, I really do like these planes. I've been flying quite a bit the last week or too. I've flown my Mayhem, Ultra Stick, UCD60 and 46. The 46 is just more fun. I'm not even real sure why, but it is relaxing, precise, it'll do any stunt, lands very easily and is just a blast to fly. And it doesn't suck the fuel so bad. I just really have fun with this plane.
THanks,
Barry

PS: Apparently I'm a little better with the flat spin landing then you guys. I'm not bragging but, hey, if you can do 'em..???? So far this year I haven't even done one, but the year's early.

Hey Barry... That's a good tip!!... I'm starting to look into a float plane, and
was thinking of using a Saito 82 on it, if I can't find a better deal on the YS
63... I'm not sure but I think the 82 may have a bit more power than the 63
but it's close... Anyway I'll use your tip for sure...

Yeah, for me one is too much, takes to long to get them ready for the next
flight.... Yesterday I was doing flatspins, And I heard the comment from the
peanut gallery... "Oh here he goes into the flapspin death spiral" I said hey,
be nice now... He said keep holding those spins to 10' and thats' what there
called, I go.... Wrong.... there called inverted flatspin landings, and I hear
it takes talent:-))))

Hey Barry, I guess I stumbled on to the trick with the fuel line by luck. I had installed a Dubro Kwik fill fuel connection and happen to "loop" the fuel line when routing it and it doesn't leak at all. Works very nicely!! [8D]
I haven't had a chance to start on my 2nd UCD yet. I've been finishing up my Twist so I have something to fly for the weekend. Y'all have a good weekend of flying................

Got to go flying to day! Was tearing the sky up with the ucando!!!!! Getting the hovering thing down, and starting to look real pretty up there. I installed the flying wires on the tail and it helped out a bunch in the loops. Went in on a straight line and came out on the same line. Rolls are very sharp and pronounced with no tail wagging so far. Then something went wrong. Lost all throttle control. It was stuck at about a little over a 1/3 throttle and I was about 20 feet off the ground. Kept flying it in circles and trying to gain some alt. But I had only been flying for about 2 min. I just could not gain enough alt so kept flying for about 5 more min then set it on the ground and had to tip it on its nose to stop it. It made it down with no damage!!!!! Brought it back and took the wing off and the throttle servo tray broke loose. So going to get some square stock and beef up the tray and screw it in this time! But all in all, it was the best day flying so far for my ucando!

I started out with a Kit trainer for 3 weeks then the UCD. I did some research and got some SH** info and have paid big time for it. I put the os 50sx hyper(heli) Engine in the 46 UCD. Well the first 10 flights 8 were dead stick because the engine kept choking. I had most of the best members at our field try to gte to run well but only on 30% nitro at $20.00 a gal did it run ok. This engine still was very unreliable. Well finaly dead stick after take off broke my UCD into too meany pieces to rebuild. So I spent some money bought a saito 82 and a Funtana 40. I can do some stuff with the Fun 40 that the UCD will not but is only about half the fun of my old UCD. The UCD is so stable at low speeds and will hover very stable I really miss it alot and regret getting the Funtana 40. I am going to order the 46 UCD tomarrow and sell my 40.

Britton, Welcome back. you'll really love the UCD with the Saito 82. You'll be amazed how much better it is than with the 2 stroke. It will do a great knife edge coupling.
Thanks,
Barry

First time posting for me. In answer to the question regarding reversing the direction of the flaperons that Kaos asked: I just reverse the output leads from ch1 and ch6 to the aileron servos. Normaly ch1 would feed the rt aileron and ch6 would feed the left aileron. Reverse ch1 output lead to the left aileron and ch6 output lead to the right aileron. One might think that the alerons would be reversed. Not so. Since the 2 aileron servo arms are opposite to each other, each pointing at their respective wingtips and double reversal occures when the ch 1 and ch 6 outputs are reversed. Winding up with the ailerons still going the right direction. But now the flap/spoiler switch is reversed. If you had spoilers before the switch, now you have flaps after the switch without any changes in transmitter programing. Will work with any radio because it is an external servo swap. Just thought I would put in my 2 cents worth.

Well the ucando throttle tray is back in and beefed up a bit, epoxy and screwed to some square stock. Can't wait to get it back in the air. Monocoupe is done and the 1/4 scale cap 232 is almost done. First flight for the monocoupe will be next week weather permiting. And the cap later in the week! I introduced the ucando to the monocoupe and I think that the ucando like it, no growling or fighting.

gjeffers........good to have you here for a reason now!!! J/k We all like ya! Sounds like you got a pretty good setup coming in the mail there. I have 4-40 fully threaded rods with due-bro ball links on both ends. They should keep all the slack out. I bet youre gonna have a blast with that 1.00 in that thing! Good luck on your build and hope ya see the "BIG BROWN TRUCK" asap!

Well, it's been about three weeks since I have had the UCD #2 built up and ready to fly. Havent even had the chance to do a maiden due to the strong southern winds. It's terrible! We are having the most beautiful mornings and afternoons you ever saw but the dang winds are blowing at about 15 to 20 mph with gust up to 30. I have never seen winds like this in my life! You coulden't even fly a trainer in these winds.

This weekend we had a huge helicopter fly-in at out feild. It was the biggest one to date. Team JR was there with all the BIG name 3D pilots. Out of about 8 or 10 3D helicopters, one poor guy lost two in a row and another guy lost one, all due to misfortunate crashes. Total loss for all three. I'm not sure if it was due to winds but it definatly slowed em down a little. They had consessions, Starbucks coffee, Pappa John's Pizza, and a whole lot of other buisnesses supporting the fly-in. They even had night flying!! That was the coolest thing ever!!!!!!!!!!! Red LED's in the rotor blades and LED's in the tail rotor blades, blue luminecent string lights around the canopy. MY GOD THAT WAS COOL!!!!!!! I never seen anything like it! Wow....what an expirience!

HAS ANYONE TRIED NIGHT FLYING WITH THE UCD??? Seeing this night flying really makes me want to try it. I think I'll try it on my trainer first, but I have to wait for the winds to calm down.

Hey thanks! How'd you know I could fly Wednesday? Thats my day off! I might just do that if you'd hold off the winds for me!

Hey, you know whaer I could find some of that luminecent string light? I looked on tower and didn't have any luck. Maybe i'm not spelling correctly?

Later on!

Joe

P.S. now you have a reason to change your UCD 60 pic on the right.

Hey, thats somthing I could do to check out. Cool, I'll try to make that a favorite on my RCU TOOLBAR! On that link, I am about an eighth of an inch above the "u" in Austin. Kinda gives you an idea of where I'm at. I NEED TO SEE SOLID BLUE BEFOR I MAIDEN THIS ONE!!!

Thanks Gary, that will help in the future!
