bh307... Very nice!! Love your pilot and canopy!!!!
Had a great day at the field:-)))) Almost got to touching my tail, but got
a little to shaky, but it's getting there:-) I was hovering about a foot off
the runway, but started to get the ground effect(mind).. So I slowly added
some throttle and climbed to 10-15' and started doing H. A. rolling circles
(well that's what I call them, There not pretty, But it's rolling and in a "sort"
of circle) on the second circle the engine studdered, so I banked to head
for the runway and the engine died.. the nose fell as I was just barely
moving but I got it facing towards the far side of the runway, and was able
to level the plane just before she hit the bush and landed on it's wheels....
Good news no damage:-))))))))))))))))))))))..... I was having so much fun,
I ran out of fuel... My mind timer went haywire:-)... Anyway I checked all
and all was good so refueled and had one last flight... I landed a little early
on that one, I had about three cranks of fuel left in the tank:-) Man I love
this UCD and my YS 63!!!

Sounds like you're flying the fear out of that plane. Good on ya. Glad you didn't hurt anything in your incident. Fun planes. Thanks,
Barry
Gjeffers, Sometimes you just can't win. On one of my UCD crashes I was trying to shut off my kitchen timer I have cliped to my shirt. By trying to reach it I crashed. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Thanks,
Barry

gjeffers... Members at the field tell me I should use the timer on my
trans., But "most" the time I have the timing down pretty good.. It's
just all was going so good today, I lost track... But I guess thats what
timers are for... One member has a digital timer on the lower part of
his ant. he has it set to count down from 8mins with no alarm... I
may use some thing like that... I hate when my radio starts beeping..
Barry... Yeah.. I'm having a ball with the UCD, She flies so easy and
just a bump of the throttle gets her out of most trouble because she
floats so well!! The other day I was hovering then went into a short
K.E. banked it towards the runway and landed with the wind.. People
at the field told me not to try that when it's hot here because at that
speed she'll drop like a rock... You know the days has been getting
hotter and I have been doing that move(so far) I know the air will be
thinner.. But in my mind I believe the UCD can do it:-0.. So I guess
I'm going to find out....
You all have fun!!! I sure am...... I went through another 1.5 gal. of
P.M. 20/20 fuel in under 2 weeks... I was going to stay home today
but that did not work, I told the "boss" I'd stay home tomorrow, But
my batteries are on the changer... Don't know what that means:-)

Hi guys, been a few days and I am all but done with the bird. I had a few finishing questions.
As far as the canopy, I am thinking of just going with a painted canopy. What paint is pretty fuel resistant? I was thinking of using that Krylon for plastic and shooting a clear over it after.
I set my ail and ele throws at the end of the horn and on high rate I get a ton of deflection, so for the low rate I set it at 70%...is that about the amount I should be setting the low rates for?
THanks again for the help folks, I will be running in the motor tonight and hoping for a maiden on Saturday, all the plane God's willing.

Tom, As far as the canopy paint, I would just paint it on the inside with lexan paint for car bodies. Painting it on the inside you shouldn't have to worry about it being fuel proof and won't really need to seal it. Clean it real good with some soapy water, dry it well, and paint away. You could even use some Scotchbrite to scuff it a little. I've used a airbrush and also a paint brush to paint mine and gotten about the same results.
For high rates, low rates, the end of the servo horn is good. Well, depending on how long the servo horn is anyway. You just don't want to put it on the end of the horn on the control surface. Stay more towards the middle or inside of the control surface horn. Not sure about 70% for low rate. Just set up the low rates so that it's about what the manual would recommend for low rates and go from there.

Hello Everyone,
I have the .60 UCD which has a Evo 1.00 in it and it should be ready for it's first flight by this weekend. Here in FL we've also had some pretty rough winds as well! My trainer gets blown around like crazy! I honestly can't wait to blow off the trainer for some real flying!

CeeGee,
Thanks! I hate to sound dumb, but I didn't even think about painting the inside of the canopy. That's a great idea.
I guess I could use any old paint I wanted and it would be all good becasue it's protected.
The other thing I am going to try is to rim the edge of the canopy with black tubing to add a little something somthing.

Tom, Yea. Painting the inside is the way to go. It turns out looking really glossy and deep on the outside. I wouldn't recommend using just any paint though. Lexan paint is formulated for the job and other types of paint may end up flaking off. You can get Lexan paint at most hobby shops and it's only a couple of bucks for about a two oz. bottle. You can get it in diffent colors to so you can paint it in silver, transparent blue, whatever you want.........
Please post a picture of your plane when you get it finished.......[8D]

Double the fun!! Just put my UCanDo 46 in the air behind my house (I live on a farm and mow a very small landing area 20' X 100') and fly my Magic with a 30 FX, a Twist with a 46 FX and now my wonderful UCan 46 with a Saito 91. I fly at home when I can't make it to the club.
First flight I was so enamoured I too ran out of fuel - the 91 is a heavy drinker. However, with just a click above throttle it will harrier really nicely for a powder puff landing. I was flying on Sunday afternoon - calm and sunny here in Lancaster, PA and tried my first inverted flat spin with it and yelled for my son who was working on his motorcycle to look up. It was holding altitude and doing a very nice slow spin. What a blast. I've been practicing hovering and am at about the 20 foot mark now and getting lower. With the 91 it's no problem getting out of trouble. I just have to keep focused on my limited flight time. I've dead sticked three times now but with altitude to work with. This is the most fun of any plane I've owned (20 or so over the years).
I use my Magic with abandon and it hovers nicely with the 30 FX and is my beater, let er rip plane. Lost the up on the elevator last summer and was able to land it inverted in some tall grass. Had to reattach the rudder though. Got some applause from the guys at the field. It took a little to catch on to what had happened - stripped the servo arm on the elevator.

Welcome Swiftflier. It sounds like you have lots of experience to share. Isn't that UCD a blast?? I can't wait to get mine back into the air. All I am flying right now is my U. Stick and it's kind of boring. I tried to maiden my Twist last weekend but had servo problems.
Hey, I have a question for you all. I'm ready to start on my new UCD and thought I would do a build along. I know most on here all ready have built there's but I want to make some changes to the build and it might help some that haven't built one yet. What do you all think? Is this a dumb idea and not needed or what? [&:]

Very interesting CeeGee........I think that would be a wonderful idea. Do you want to start, or myself?
Joe
P.S. Wanna start as the manual says or start with what ever?

I kinda like the idea of a build along. There is always a new comer to this and other threads. It helps them with the simple and not so simple questions they have. It's also nice to see your peers and what ideas they have and what you can do to improve your own plane. Sometimes many minds tackle the same problems differently and together we all can build a little better. But than again sometimes it doesn't work, you just get bickering. But I don't think so on this thread. The people are all too nice, well, except for me. I'm concentrating on making my planes light as possible with out breaking the bank. I think by using common sense and a good scale you can improve weight quite a bit. I'm also interested in what CEEGEE hides underneath those painted canopys. Thanks,
Barry
