RE: Showtime

I just checked my settings, and my HSN is at 1 1/4 LSN 1 5/8 and my Reg is at 4 1/2 out. Also I checked my valve clearances and they were at .15mm each. Thats quite a bit loose. I readjusted them to .08mm and reset the carb to 1 1/2 HSN, 1 1/2 LSN and 3 turns out on the regulator. I will give that a try tomorrow.

Thanks for the recommendations.

BK

I agree with Barry, that sounds pretty far out on the reg. You might want to start with it flush again now that you've adjusted the valves.
Yeah, the valves should be set to .003 inches, which is .076mm. It should run much better now.

:)Are electrics without problems? I've heard stories of batteries catching fire, holding the proper charge, etc. etc. etc. I suppose either glow, gas, or electric has it's challenges.
Thanks,
Barry

Been there. Ive had the stator come loose twice on one of my big axi's I guess you could call that a electric dead stick landing

Hey Oak,

How is that 5320 working?

I am going to use a AXI 4130 with a 10s Kokam 3200. It should have plenty of Power!

That 5320 can fly 15 lbs.....seems like overkill to me....

Do you use a UBEC for your servos?

Thanks,
Magoo

I havnt flown my axi'ed Showtime yet but I just weighed it and its 10 lbs 7 oz. Kinda heavy I think I need to shed a pound from it somehow. Any ideas? how much would a carbon wing tube save?

rmh 09-30-2005 08:26 PM

RE: Showtime

Good luck- I really looked my Showtime over -to get rid of any weight - a few ozs -that's it
Mine is 10 lbs 2 ozs with gas engine /pipe
Power is super -- but the real fix?
more wing areaor shave at least a pound and a half.
The model is 20% heavier than it's original 8 lb 2 ozs with the lil glo engine --and that is a LOT.

what size is the wing tube on this plane (diameter & lenght)?
Is it carbon Fiber or metal?

:)DiscoWings...The wing tube is 1 1/16" diameter x 20 1/4" long and metal, heavy (4.0 ozs).
Thanks

Well you could shed some weight by using a 4130 instead of that 5320.

I waited an 2 hours past quiting time to wait for my ST 4D but it never showed [&o],

anyway that is the AXI that I'm gonna use with a 10s Kokam 3200 mAh. That should enough but what the heck do I know[X(]!

I got a 4120 On my twist so I figured id go alittle bigger for the Showtime. I wish I would have got 3 3 cell 3200 packs now instead of the 6 3 cell 2000's since that would save me 6 oz . I just found a Graph tech wing tube thats 2 oz also . SO differnet packs and wing tube would shave 1/2 pound

RE: Showtime

:)I really like the way this plane flys. Yesterday I took part of the afternoon off and got a few flights in. It was pretty windy, about 20MPH I'd say. Anyways this plane handles the wind pretty good too. Landings are really not that big of a deal. Unlike my Funtana, the Showtime just settles in without too much trouble. Biggest thing I have on landings is you have to watch the carbon fiber gear or it will break with just a moderate hard landing. Also, I don't use the SFGs in wind, too hard to land without breaking.

Today, one of my airleron control horns came loose. You remember, the ones where you're not supposed to use a locknut, just glue it. I have about 50 flights on mine and this is the first time it's came loose. I'm gonna use a locknut this time. My advice to others just building is to use a locknut also. Just to be safe. I caught mine in a routine inspection and didn't have any problems.

Best move of the day...In the wind I was able to hold a KE hover for about 10-15 seconds. Pretty cool. Also, a few no throttle flat spins from way up. The wind blows it the entire length of our field but takes forever to drop.

THanks
Barry

You'll have to ask drvcrach about the 5320 as I don't have any experience with the Axi. I use an Actro 40-5.

I use a UBEC from Kool Flight. 5V, 3Acont, 5Apeak, High-voltage version. Seems to work great!

BTW: There is an own thread about the electrified ShwoTime in the Glow to Electric Converson section: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3124098/tm.htm

Oak,

Yea I did get you confused with drvcrash....thanks for the link to the E Version of Showtime!!

drvcrash,

Thanks for your info as well. I also have a E-Twist that I run a 4120 on with a 6s 3200 Kokam:)

I can hardly wait to finally get my ST 4D I have all the components I need to get building!:D

Cheers!

Has anybody ever had the exhaust nipple on their YS 110 snap. I was flying my Showtime last night when I saw something fall off. Sure enough, the muffler was gone. Never had that happen before, I realize there is some vibration but.... And no it wasn't rubbing against anything, exits out the side of the cowl.

Some days, you just know you should have stayed home. First flight of the day on the ST, 4th flight overall. Tried the SFGs for the first time, too. Don't know if I like them or not. Anyway, about 10 minutes in, the engine died in a low inverted flat spin. Managed to get it upright and flat before it hit. Not much damage, but it did rip the gear out, broke both wheel pants and 1 SFG, and poked a hole in the covering on the wing bottom. Should be a pretty easy fix, but I don't know if I really want to. Although the plane flies great, it really doesn't fit my style of flying. I've become addicted to profiles...

What nipple of the YS110? Does the YS110 have an exhaust nipple?

RE: Showtime

Must be something in the air today. 2nd flight with the Showtime today I put it in almost full throttle. Taking off and banking right I got locked out. She went in at a 45deg angle. After I retrieved the wreckage, I tested the battery and it seems like it lost 2 cells. Before I took off I checked the voltmeter on the dash and it was full green. After the crash it barely lights up the first red light. I was thinking maybe it was sitting there in the weeds for 45 min until I picked it up and thats why it was dead, but, the battery wss about 5 ft. from the crash disconnected, so that rules that out.

So beware, I was using 1400MAH NiMh 5 cell Skyline brand batteries, they might be poor quality.

Ironic thing is I bought a lipoly set up for it Thursday and was going to install it next week.

Bummer. This is my 2nd Showtime in 3 weeks! First on went in when I hooked up the Aileron wires backwards. See Video 'Worlds Record set with SHowtime'.

I'm not sure if I will replace it this time. I really wasn't that happy with the way it performed. I really didn't like the dead spot it low speed.

Maybe I'll get a 30% gasser instead.

that really sucks man sorry to hear about that..

I have found that NiMh batterys hold their charge good but if left set for a while will look good and then just drop off a cliff on you. A good cycle on the triton every now and then to me seems like they have more "stamina" so to say,, Im strictly LiPo and 6V on everything now i love them

Joe,

Have no fear.....you are just a little bummed from your ST pancake. I toasted two planes last weekend one totaled and one repairable!......boy was I bummed[:@]!!

You will fix it in no time. You gotta admit that the ST is way prettier than any Profile could ever be:)

Cheers!

I haqd a battery go bad on a H9 Extra 260....I was flying inverted over the runway and when I went to right it I had no control......Man that was a funny feeling watching your plane slowly decending inverted....It crashed about 1/4 mile away.

The next day I went and bought another 260 and a ST 4D.....just got the ST finished with a YS 110 and am waiting for the rain to stop so I can maiden it.

RE: Showtime

I have not read this entire thread so I apologize if this has been
covered...

For anyone assembling this plane before you complete step #8 in
the manual you should check your incidence on the stabilizer half's.

Mine right stab was out 1 degree.

Once you drill the second hole in the stab tube you are locking the
left and right side together. If the incidence on the left and right side
are not equal you might not be able to make the adjustment later.
