And just MAYBE the club members will never change their minds after they OUST the fool.
Then it won't MATTER.
I've been there, and seen it done. Poetry in motion.

With apologies to LCS, for making a simple, superficial observation,
but isn't all this being talked about, grumpy old folks, snotty young folks, cliques, attitudes, etc., just human nature? What, is everyone s'posed to change stripes before coming to the field?
None of that is going to change, ever.

I am glad I could be of service to you, my fine friend.
That's what it's all about, spreading the word, spreading the joy, and for some of us, spreading stuff that makes the grass grow green! Gotta keep those fields lush and happy!
And the FUN part is....I'm not gonna tell ya which you are!
Happy-Happy-Happy-Joy-Joy-Joy!

The club attitude thing is no "eureka!" moment. Tell us something we don't know.
Practically everyone I've met, who's stayed in the hobby more than a year or so, has jumped into it whole hog. People dang near go broke and lose wives over it. They don't get discouraged because someone made fun of their ARF.
AMA isn't growing because, whether the hobby itself is or isn't growing, people are not seeing the NEED to go AMA.

Westcoast flyer,
Now, now....no jealousy! I know it's hard trying to have fun when you're not used to it!
Just let yourself BELIEVE!!!!
And yes, Ousting a fool is indeed Poetry in motion.
Of course, as a preemptive measure, the Fool could behave like a decent human being....but you probably think that's "sick" too......
In case you haven't read back far enough, a Fool is somebody who is totally selfish in most everything they do, and probably in ways most relevent to this thread....in the way they treat others.
20 guys would be thinking it's poetry in motion.....ONE would be thinking they're all unfair. I'm not gonna tell you which YOU (grump) are here either....
And THAT is why in my opinion they should be ousted from AMA fields. They don't need anybody, they don't like the way everybody else does things, why should everybody be miserable when logically only ONE person being miserable (somewhere else) would be the most mutually beneficial?
How else are we going to help to grow the AMA? Which, as you may or may not recall, is the THEME of this thread. YOU may be interested in NOT growing it and criticizing it.
Conversely, I AM interested in what conditions might be adversely affecting the AMA growth.
GRUMPS and FOOLS fall within that category.
Welcome to the club.

No Jimbo, I do like the AMA. I do see the need for it. I speak up for it, WHEN I'M SPOKEN TO. I DON'T feel the need to evangelize.
I don't worry about grumps. I see and avoid. And I fly, and have lots of fun. That's it.

Well, Guys and Gals, that moment has come again when I've just had WAY too much fun and I'm gonna go outside and vomit.
Yep.
Actually, I've got to get going, I have a Waco to finish up for the meet on the 3rd and I just can't get too caught up in this fun.
Y'all feel free to join me the Jim Rice Memorial Fly-In here in Kingsbury, Texas on the 3rd and 4th....Bring your planes, feel the love, leave the grumps HOME....and have a great weekend with us!
Let's see, I've to get that wheelpant straightened out, and change that linkage in the ba......

with the call sign GRUMPY
... "Grumpy the Hangar Hater", bombing airfield building from B24s way way upstairs

Grumpy is normal, but it generally must be kept to yourself. You accomplish this feat very well, unlike myself.
Oh yeah, the reason the reason the AMA is not growing. Less interest.

In the end the simple fact is if it wasnt the AMA that was our voice in national matters, it would have to be someone else. With the proliferation of UAV technology and the use of that technology outside our hobby, we need a voice to continue to do what we do, the way we do it. The AMA is much more than a magazine and suplimental insurance coverage. Like it or not its there to help us with a collective voice. As I stated earlier when clubs grow the AMA grows. Its said there is strength in numbers and I for one believe that statement. If you dont like what your club does and you dont care to get involved, then there is something wrong. Get involved and find out whats going on. The sport / hobby of model aviation has changed and will contiue to change, hopefully we all help it to change in a direction that we all like. Thats why we in our club have made changes and as I said earlier those changes have been for the better and we have seen growth while other clubs around us have been in decline.
The AMA wont bring everyone into the fold and thats fine. Those who choose not to belong for whatever reason will benefit directly from those of us who do belong and continue support the AMA in all of the issues they represent us on. I have been a member for 22 years. I know there are guys who have been members for much longer than that. If you dont understand there are issues out there then I guess you wouldnt want to belong.

In the end the simple fact is if it wasnt the AMA that was our voice in national matters,
Are you saying AMA reorganized as a parent lobbying corp with a nonprofit subsidiary hobby academy?
Are you saying nonprofit AMA lobbys the government, meaning we have one or more "lobbyist"s?
Are you saying our national voice hasnt bothered to actually register to lobby the fed, but is doing so?
I just dont understand what you mean by "our voice in national matters".
Just how much was spent "Lobbying" the fed in the past 10 years, I cant find it in the annual $report pages of MA.
Only ama to fed "make it happen" money I heard of was the NoReciepts $10k to ... uh... make 72mhz freqs happen back in the day

804 is on the money. There are many "national matters" in discussion right now. You should read Model Aviation to get up to speed. Usually Dave Mathewsons message includes lots of whats going on like current discussions with the FAA, Homeland Security and ARC. All most important issues to us and our hobby................Everyone in our club and the surrounding clubs have been up to speed on these issues for the last year anyway.
I dont believe the AMA lobbies..........we dont need to. The AMA is our collective voice as modelers, that we do need.

Wow! 35 pages of messages on the subject. Obviously the AMA is not growing because people do not spend time at the fields or building models anymore, they stay on line talking about it:-)

This was Mac Hodges. He does this demo all over the country. Last year he crashed the B-29 doing the demo when a wing panel came off in the flat spin. He has a new one built and just flew it in public 2 weeks ago. This flight here at the B-17 Gathering was only the second time it's been flown in public (total of about 25 flights on the plane at this time). Here is the HD video I shot at the event of that flight. It's really pretty impressive to see.

Excellent job of flying, it looked almost as good as the real thing. Do ya have any close up stills of it on the ground Ken?

Smoke and fire…spirit of American can do…this hobby owes much to guys like Mac.
Yep, everything model aviation is all about...in one video! Impressive to say the least and certainly one reason the AMA is not declining faster than it is.

"I dont believe the AMA lobbies..........we dont need to. The AMA is our collective voice as modelers, that we do need. "
we dont need to lobby,
we just need to have someone represent what we want to the government
.... but clearly not a lobbyist

When the tobacco / oil / NRA / HMO groups want to tell the gov what law they want
they use lobbyists.
When a national hobby organization gets into lawmaking, we dont want to call it lobbying.
Sure, the sUAS ARC is not lobbying, it damage control to prevent AC91-57 from getting teeth.
But then,
havent we spent a couple decades of letting AC91-57 get entrenched without contest/lobby/ OneVoicing ?
Before we brag about the power of the OneVoice,
shouldnt we have done something with that OneVoice to fix AC91-57 long ago
(so we wouldnt have to be dealing with the sUAS now)
AMA needs to stop making a product and then convincing folks they need/want it.
We need to find what folks want, and make that.
IF MA magazine was what people wanted
why would we fear folks would drop MA if it was optional?
IF PPP was what millions of parkies really wanted, why havent they taken it up?
If ama was really representing the HOBBY to the gov for the past couple decades,
why hasnt ac91-57 been changed to include the Infamous Comma a long time ago?

Kid Epoxy,
I am sorry I am not representing my point well enough to have you see the merit of the AMA as I do. I don’t care to get into a discussion of policy and what I believe the AMA should or shouldn’t do on this forum, for me it is clear. I belong to the AMA, I support the AMA, I believe in what guys like Dave Mathewson and Greg Hahn believe in and I am proud to belong to the organization.
This hobby is fun for me and the AMA is part of that for me. Our club has grown under the AMAs programs and we continue to grow even as this summer season draws to an end. I for one like Model Aviation. If you don’t want to receive it contact your local VP for your district and voice your opinion. I for one have never heard from anyone in our club, or the surrounding clubs, that they didnt want to get Model Aviation. They like to stay up to speed with issues that effect them and our hobby. I don’t think receiving or not receiving a magazine is a point to dismiss the AMA and its long history as our hobbies voice. Sorry you don’t feel the same way I do.[
