I think you and I are in basic agreement and arguing semantics.

Let me give you some examples of BS Club Rules (thank goodness not in my Club)

- THOU MUST FLY THE PATTERN! (including helicopters)
- Helicopters can only fly in a separate area
- No 3D over the runway even if you are the only plane in the air
- No low fast passes even if you are the only plane in the air

These are all real examples I have seen, and are probably the kind imposed by older flyers to keep the younger flyers in line.

These are ''CLUB RULES'' and not ''AMA RULES''.
The first one is not a BS rule. It can and will keep down mid air collisions.
The third one is not either for the same reason, if you are not the only plane in the air.

The others might or might not be BS rules.

Most any rule at any venue has a basis for it's existence. In other words, something happened to cause that rule to be put into effect.

Bill, AMA 4720
Helicopters must fly the pattern????? .......... now you show your bias as a scale builder.........

And yes in rule 3 I DID SAY "if you are the only plane in the air"

Yes, you did say that. In the case of the helicopters flying the pattern, if they don't have a separate area, then they should fly the pattern. It's for safety.

<snip>

I live in the ''Real World'' not the hypothetical one where the AMA is always to blame.

So AS FAR AS YOU KNOW NOBODY has ever been denied a claim for breaking a CLUB RULE.
And what am I blaming AMA for? Sheesh, next thing I'll be having the "B" word thrown at me for questioning the scriptures.

It is true "AS FAR AS YOU ...." yada yada
It is also true that you do not know that it has not happened and more importantly that it will not happen. I'm quite convinced, based on a few "invitations" I could not take a pass on to discuss issues of liability on their turf, that in any big $$ liability situation there will be ambulance chasers crawling over each other to find any rule that may have been broken, and exploit it in arguing their case.

To me the question is why take the chance that it will happen? As I said in a previous post, "I see no need or benefit for AMA to put their official sanction on local club rules." Do you? If it serves no purpose, then I see no good reason for keeping it, and removing it would eliminate an ambiguity along with associated differences of opinion regarding it's potential impact amongst concerned members, along with something for lawyers to argue over and so fill their rice bowls.

Back to you - what do you see as good reason(s) for keeping it?

most heli guys are shun from local flying clubs. witch is probley why the pattern rule is there I fly heli's and plank's(fixed wing) question?? i keep seeing this insurance thing i thought that your homeowner was the primary. and i would like to agree that's its the attitude of the people at the club. a new guy show's up that is not a fried of there's or a friend of a friend and they want nothing to do with them. all it takes is one bad encounter and you can turn somebody off to the hobby. in some cases i think that is what some of the clubs.

If you want to see graphic examples of why the AMA is becoming stagnant, and even showing a decline in the membership, just go and have a look at the AMA website forum, and look at the thread titled: What are you building and why. They are back up to their old tricks of protecting a few of the membership, and what they have to say, while banning or deleting what others have to say. It's the same Good old Boy thing that's been going on for years. The AMA is no longer a teaching tool, but has become nothing but an Insurance company, and a poor one at that, while offering the few a nice place to fly in Muncie. Bah! I banned myself from that back slapping bunch, and won't go back.

Neither you nor Red are man enough to run anyone away from anything. I'm just tired of the preferential treatment that some get at the expense of others. You are one of the main Crap stirrers over there and over here.

Bill,

There are some facts missing in the above statement so I'll fill in the rest. You did not mention that you dug up an old post from 3 Nov 09, then posted something that was in the mods eyes an attempt to cause strife- which is did for a short time. Your post caused a string of more off topic posts. Those off topic posts were then removed. That's the same thing that happens here all the time on RCU and in other forums as well.

Just wanted to make sure the complete story was out there.

Frank,

All I wanted was to find out if he was referencing me or KE. That was not going off topic. Neither was it said to cause strife, just to clarify a point. I see that some of the posts here have magically disappeared as well.

I don't see where presenting facts should be judged as whining. You do want to know the facts right?

This forum is about the AMA. SB's post was about the AMAforum. Muroc posted info about some disputed goings on there.

Hmmm. AMA. Didn't you post that you weren't goingto renew for 2010?Areyou even an AMAmember and, if not, why would you post or even be interested given your disdain and often expressed negative opinionand distrust ofthe AMA?

Hi Guys

I have been reading with great interest about our concerns for the AMA .Lets face it the heavy duty RC hobbiest is a dynasaur .The art of building and flying big expensive airplanes to most of us is a thing of the past.
I have been in this hobby for more than 60 years and have seen most of it .
I have given up flying the larger glow type airplanes they are just too much of a complication
The AMA was a good idea when I started as a teenagger back in the late 50s with a big dangerous FREE FLIGHT airplane .Then I went on to control line .I needed the insurance and a club then also .

Now I fly more than ever with a 7 or 8 ounce EPP electric in the park, school yard or in the gym. They are slow ,up close and a lot less trouble .And more fun

We can have a lot more fun with the new little planes .They are inexpensive ,reliable and durable.

After all these years I find I do not need my club or the AMA .

The AMA has to find something to offer the old flyers and the new guys who are comming along .

These new electrics are extremely good and they do not need the club and formal airfield setups anymore.

My club 12 years ago had 140 members and this year they will not even have 80.We do not need the clubs or the AMA to have fun in the RC hobby .

The clubs and the AMA will have to find a nitch.

Frank, as a leader in the AMA growing plan, I hope this causes no strife, but for your information
this is the thought-pattern of the Chairman of the membership committee. Plain to see we ALL, Leaders, clubs, members, ALL down here in the ranks flubbed up big time. We be mighty bad! [&o]

LEADER TO LEADER

Membership Drive Reaction

by Chairman, Leader Member Committee

As I write this, it is a week before Christmas and the final membership numbers for 2009 are fresh in my mind ... Depressing but still in my mind. We had a membership drive. A well-thought-out, but poorly executed drive.
The leg work was done at the HQ level and the advertising was done in Model Aviation and by word of mouth via most of the District VPs. Yet the grass roots level, where the newbie meets the member, it didn’t happen very well; seemingly no interest in the growth of the membership by the average modeler or club.

Continued: AMA Web Site.

Well, it looks like they pulled off another boner on this deal also. Maybe they need different people up in muncie to come up with fresh ideas..

"A well-thought-out, but poorly executed drive."
failed park flyer program
failed dvd program

But I'll bet the big snots will give themselves a B+ for back slapping

Looks like 3 strikes to me Hoss, why don't you go up there an show'em what needs to be done

Patsy2Shoes, don't you think there will always be a baseline % of guys to keep the AMA afloat?
AFAIK, the AMA could downsize all the way to 1 guy operating out of a broom closet serving 2000 members, but it will still continue in some respect.

That would put it on par with the USAMA.

How many times have I tried in these past 10 years or so? Seems like a membership does not agree with me so I don't get there because of a lack of votes.

How much "....why don't you go there...." can one have?
