Is it possible to participate in the hobby while promoting the hobby with results of recruiting new AMA members and still be labeled an AMA basher? Or is it just here that spiteful personalities get away with incessant derogative characterizations?

I know the feeling. I have been instrumental in getting new people in this hobby for several years. Started a new club and helping to get another one going in my area, All AMA clubs, and yet i am persecuted by the powers that be in District 5 because i don't pigeon hole with the party line.

Maybe calling folks AMA Basher or AMA-Hater is a term of endearment.
Like they wish they had the nerve to stand up to whomever is making them afraid to speak their mind, and they admire our ability to. It would just be a salutation, admiration, maybe even jealousy.
It certainly cant be derogative degrading or insulting... that isnt allowed here at RCU.
Of course, maybe they just need to use insults to win debates rather than logic, or it makes them feel like a big man to say mean things from a screen of safety.
I dont really know, but they are consistant, they've been insulting, are insulting, and I bet will continue to insult.
The part I dont get is them implying Muncie is haters & bashers & should just quitAMA because Muncie wants to change the AMA to save money too.

To LCS and JF: Unless you bow down to those with their heads firmly planted within the upper hiearchy, you will always be so. For 40 years I have to the fullest promoted the AMA as an organization. For 20 years prior to that I was an ardent modeler promoting modeling. I have always been labled as an AMA hater and a #1 troublemaker. Just a fact of life.
KE: I do agree with the first two paragraphs of your post. However, KE, your last sentence-structure is too far over my head to allow me to assure myself that I have any idea as to what you're talking about. [:-]

Why is it O.K. for some of you to bash us who have a more tolerant outlook about the AMA, but it's not O.K. for us to reciprocate the favor? My guess is: you feel you see us for who we really are and we feel the same way about you! On a personal note, if the name calling were to stop, I'd stop calling people names.

Yes, seems there are many here that have love/hate relationship with the AMA. Many of them hypocrites, just as you just described. Especially the ones that say they promote the AMA, then boast and expect something back in return for their effort.

You expound much about AMA's lack of a Parkflyer tier and regulation...is there more you desire? You have spoken often about the poor leadership of the current AMA but have given little information as to why you bash them. Care to expound on that?

Interesting you brought up the namecalling.
Lets scroll up & see whom is calling who names.
<hint: Fubar Five is name calling there, RED>
As the thread is pointing out, some guys are posting stuff they think would be good for the AMA, and others get to sling insult at them.
To expound on my post Hoss (probably everyone) couldnt follow:
Muncie has a program to pay folks for sugections that will save AMA money.
Therefore Muncie must be the 6th member of the FubarFive, cause they will pay folks to point out stuff being done wrong by AMA.
Cant wait to hear the names they are going to call Muncie for lot loving & protecting everything AMA does.

Thanks for explaining yourself and the insight to your personal hypocrisy. Just what all is it you expect of the AMA?
You expound much about AMA's lack of a Parkflyer tier and regulation...is there more you desire? You have spoken often about the poor leadership of the current AMA but have given little information as to why you bash them. Care to expound on that?

And as far as current leadership, I assume your talking about Dave Brown. Well Dave is an elected member and soon will be replaced. But yes, I'm not too happy with his performance and his vision for the AMA's true purpose. But like I said, he's just a member, he's not a "them".

I don't need a single thing from the AMA and don't expect anything more then their membership benefits advertise for the money I pay. I realized the AMA is not a publically held company when I first signed up.

Contradictive to say the very least. When your not happy with some aspect of the AMA, even if it is a member or whatever, that isn't bashing but when someone else expresses their discontent of someone within the AMA or point out what they don't need(credit card offers, solicitation for whatever lists or media crap) from the AMA it is bashing...Hmmmm....simply amazing how you can rationalize your positions. You are hopeless.

Positive?
In just one recent thread we had a few positive ideas:
CombatPig's comments led me to say Districts should pay the $10/year for a decent domain name instead of bamzoo.ru or yosemiteflash.com or whatever freakish names some of them go by.
" Wow guys, I'll tell you what DVPs should be like re internet presense-
The D8 VP uses the internet to comunicate with the members, and not just from his own little corner of the internet, but that DVP will roll up his sleeves & reach into the dark heart of raw internet to post using his real ID here at RCU.
The entire DVP corps should have the stones to do what that DVP does.
He is swell, and other should be that swell "
That look familiar?
Seems you then decided that it was the dumbest thing ever,
which is clearly YOU bashing the positive activities of a AMA DVP,
yet didnt want the ama to stop doing whet you consider the dumbest thing ever. Why? Why should ama continue to do what you think is the dumbest thing ever? Why not say the AMA should stop doing things that are dumb? Why allow dumbest thngs to contine?
Because you just want to change nothing,
you just want to belittle folks that are wanting to improve the AMA,
and belittle AMA DVPs for comunicating with the masses.
Congratulations, you found something to bash the ama (JimRice) over: He uses his real name on the internet. <Oh the horror of it, the insanity, and plain immorality of true identity, somebody make it stop... for the sake of the children.
>
Stick, Welcom to the Super6 of bashers, your anti-DVP-comunicating bash qualifies you.
Post your address so we can sent the Super6 TeamJug ProAMA lapel pins to you
BTW Stick, still waiting for you to Itemize the remarks you want me to appologize for in that other thread.

Dave Brown is not the AMA, he's a member, like you.
Dave Brown is not the AMA, he's a member, like you.
You are really full of yourself.
The only thing anyone can have an issue with in regards to the AMA is with or about a certain person or certain people and/or their action or inaction.
You seem to have the blinders on about your bashing. You selectively feel you have the right to express your discontent about some aspect of the AMA but if others do the same they are deemed bashers by you…How hypocritical. That is why you have zero credibility here but I am sure you will redeem yourself by getting Central Park online for R/C model flying as you promised us. How about an update? Oh… you’ve been asked repeatedly recently but seem to just ignore the queries. Oh well, some much for that.

I think I see the big picture here.
It is not that we want things to change, what they call bashing..
it is that we want stuff that is not their pet projects to change.
Lets just make the big list of things that are OK to bash.
The NON-Tiered member structure: STL likes to bash the lack of tiers, lets join him in a group AMA-bash.
DVPs posting using their real ID Online: Stick likes to bash the AMA on that one, so I guess we should join his bash of that.
SmackTalk DB, but bend knee to JC: Sure, if that is what you want we can join your hate of that part of AMA too.
What else have the comrades made ok to bash AMA over?
Lets just stick to the ama hate our fine comrades have displayed to avoid being labeld Bashers, we could be exemplar members like those that AMAbash their pet projects.

Say something positive about AMA? I'll say three.
1) Thanks for that free video
2) Thanks for all the mail outs, fund raisers, and catalogues of AMA apparel. Toilet paper is expensive these days.
3) Thanks for the drama on RCU. I don't even watch soaps anymore.

How about for once you guys make a statement concerning the AMA that is positive in nature, or at least in context. If you are so disillusioned with the AMA, why don't you not renew your membership for next year. Work on something that is better, and offer it to us.

Wow, I'll bet your statement made a few of the chronic malcontents who spend most of their time on this forum, endlessly sniping away at the AMA, while also attempting to portray themselves as some sort of messiahs; break out in a cold sweat!

This forum does have a useful purpose though, as it serves as a "detention hall" or haven, for these disciples of negativity!

Here is a quick demonstration of the problem.
Positive? Negative?
By what standard are we being judged? To wit just on one topic:
A) If we say we support membership tiers for cheaper E-Tickets, we are bashing & hating regular AMA.
B) If we say we dont support Tiered Membership, turns out we are bashing folks trying to improve the AMA
Which is the "Positive" side on that topic?
Clearly, whichever side we are not on at the moment.
Lest we forget the slurs we got for being Pro-Paintball,
yet it turns out that was the AMA way and still is today... the AMA even has the 2005 paperwork as PDF but that didnt stop us from being "Negataive" & ~Ruining AMA~ by supporting Paintball that was already being held at sanctioned events. The thread is still here at RCU, browse that bad boy & look at what we had to put up with from the "Positive" side... the side that was against the AMA
Positive & Negative are from a point of view:
We think yall are being negative by wanting to run MA in the RedInk.
Yall think we are being negative by wanting to not run MA in the RedInk.

I think this epitomizes the struggle that is taking place now within AMA. The ones doing the bashing and name calling almost always are the one's with the low AMA number, as if they are entitled to have their opinion heard before anyone else. Tiered memberships. If my AMA number is lower than yours my opinion means more than yours.Second class memberships, all at the same price. Here in D5 they have put it into practise.
I have helped found one club and helping another come into existence, all AMA, I am an AMA intro pilot instructor. I am currently buddy cording and teaching to fly several people. I have helped several people solo this year. Many people have joined AMA thru me, yes i promote the hobby AND AMA. What do some of you guys who critisize me for my views do?
AMA has become a slothful organisation that is slow to respond to current trends, technology, and the good ole boys in it are resistant to any change. AMA gives money to clubs without any accountability, has a magazine that is a drain on its finances, and if you have an opinion that is contrary to current dogma, justifies your persecution by DVP's.
AMA is losing membership almost daily. If current trends continue it will reach crisis point in the future. So go ahead all you low number people, bash away, and when your beloved AMA crashes, there won't be too many who will weep.
Edited to add: The above quoted post does not serve to build membership in AMA, promote this wonderful hobby, or expand AMA's influence or representation.

WOW....What was wrong with your old club? Why did you leave it?
I'll bet you left because you ate all your cereal, and drank all your milk, or because you were doing something very noble, and weren't appreciated by the membership. Or maybe they were jealous because you built such great airplanes. Had to be something like that, huh?????

You are hopeless.

I don't need a single thing from the AMA and don't expect anything more then their membership benefits advertise for the money I pay. I realized the AMA is not a publically held company when I first signed up.
And as far as current leadership, I assume your talking about Dave Brown. Well Dave is an elected member and soon will be replaced. But yes, I'm not too happy with his performance and his vision for the AMA's true purpose. But like I said, he's just a member, he's not a "them".

Why is Stick trying to bait us into getting the thread locked with that Verboten Subject again?
Dont take the bait guys.
The subject of Jug vs Past Club is not to be used to make every thread ugly flame-fest,
the moderator has made this clear repeatedly. There may be a thread once in a while with a subject making that event relavent, and the moderator will keep a tight leash on the subject. But this time it is clearly just hate talk without relevance to the thread.
Dont take the bait from Sticks cheap shot at Jug, he is just trolling for a LOCK.
Jug-
Great work starting the club. Keep it up & we will have to call you Curtis Appelseed... or would that be Jug Clubseed... starting up clubs all over the place & getting folks flying.
And so we have another example of the Positive Or Negative game.
Is starting a club a positive thing?
Is starting a club a negative thing?
Seems when one of us start a club, it is a negative thing.... so lets just call AMA & get them to stop all the Club Forming. Think how great that would be, getting rid of all that bad club forming negativity. Maybe after that, we could go around shutting down clubs too.
