GP GEE BEE

Well finished mine totally out. It came out to 10 lbs with a OS 4 stroke. I did have to add a 2 oz spinner hub to it for it to balance out. I also took off the wheels pants so that I will not bust them up on the first few flight like I did with my other Gee Bee. After I put them back on I probably will be around 10.5 lbs. I hope to fly it within the next week. It has been very windy the past week, 15-20 mph winds.

[X(]Careful rowdog, The Great Planes Gee Bee has very flimsy gear. I found out the hard way by doing the same thing you are planning to do. I tried flying mine without the pants and I managed to bend up the gear on the first landing. Any side load at all with bend it. I ended up making my own landing gear out of 4130 chromoly which worked great. It was the only thing that didn't get damaged on my last crash. I posted some pics of the gear earlier in this thread. All I can say is good luck and have fun.

Yeah I know This is my 2nd one. The landing gear work fine for me on my other flights before the last one, I took out my OS 120 and put a saito 100 in it and the plane stalled as soon as it took off. So my dad bought me a new one, and I will not take my OS out of it this time

I have only been in the hobby for a couple of years and have used OS since I started. So far I haven't seen any reason to change. I ran a 120 AX on my Gee Bee and it worked great. Now it is on my 69" YAK.

mrcasey69,what do you mean where is the GEE BEE?
Balsinator, I have had OS, saito ,thunder tiger, super tigre and evolution engines. Out of all of these the OS is by far the best to tune and the supter tigre the hardest, but my super tigre run great it is just the tunning that most people do not like. I would by another super tigre in a heart beat.

I have a Ryobi 28.5 I would like to put on a GP Gee Bee R2, but I am concerned about the vibration of using a gas engine, cracking fiberglass fuselage etc. Any thoughts? Thanks, Gary

Converting all my fleet to gas since last year and I have run gas in several composite planes without coming across your concerns. I do attempt to fortify firewalls however, and to secure glue joints. My current Gee Bee project is setup with the Zenoah G20EI.

Hi!
My four year old Great Planes GEE BEE R-2 is fully aerobatic with a 15cc (.90) MVVS two stroke swinging a 15x4 W APC prop. This is the best prop for the GEE BEE R-2 if you fly with a 15cc two stroke. A 26cc MVVS gas engine or anything like it is going to add too much weight. My modified/lightened GB weights 5000g ...and is still too heavy!!!
The problems with the GB is stalling at landing!! Differential ailerons (more up than down ) seems to help slightly. Going to try to twist the wingtips this spring and see what happens.
I have been flying pylon racing for 25 years...still this plane is a hand full on landings.

I read some article in model airplane news or flying models
about vortice generators and it said that zig zag tape on the outward parts of the wing would help the wing to keep the air flowing along the top of the wing preventing a stall . I believe the article said that the tape was applied at 25% from the leading edge .

" I told my wife that I was going to fly it again and she said No. So, I will make this a hanger plane and just take it to the field to show off, or take it to fly-ins. " - rowdog_14

I can see who wears the pants in that family. [>:]

I took the Gee Bee with Saito 170R to the club today for some taxi tests. I came close to flying it but the wind was comming in between our two runways. I will post a video of the taxi tests right away. The video should be up this evening here on RC Universe.

, I will fly but I guess I will give it some time
