Hi all,
I just pulled the trigger on this OV-10, http://www.hobbyhangar.com/hhbaseline_002.htm
I'm going electric on this. I can calculate motor/prop on a plank w/one motor. But how do you do it if the plank has 2 motors/props? Do you just figure two motors that would be about half as powerful if the plank had one motor instead? I don't want to assume the motor in the picture is the best choice for the plane.

I bought this same plane about 8 years ago. It is a nice model. Go with the recomended motors( .25 - .32 ) electric equivelent. I know if you put in 2 -.32 electrics that would be plenty of power for this plane.
Good luck to you.

I don't know if the real Bronco have counter rotating props. Good point, I'll research that. I've been reading posts that suggest it's the thing to do when there's multi-engines involved. Maybe that's 4 engines, not two. I'm a newbie on this. I remember something about a counter air flow that cancel out some unwanted effects.

With the twin tails you will not have a problem. You will need rudder when taking off, as with any plane and the Bronco will fly with only one engine but you shouldn't have that issue!
just remember to turn it with the rudder and only keep the wings level with the ailerons if you do. i have OS .25 FX engines in my small one, and YS .91's in my large one.
had a conversation with a few club members a while ago about prop rotation. Some twins go in the same direction, some have opposite. Some turn to the right, others to the left. I think most today turn in the same direction to keep it simple for maintenance (both (all) engines the same, etc).

The OV-10 (full scale) indeed has counter rotating props. Since you are going electric, it will be easily done. You simply need a "pusher" prop opposite your standard prop, both the same size.

Please keep us updated, I have subscribed to this thread. the OV10 is my all time favourite aircraft.
I live in Australia and was a Police Pilot for many years, in planning security for the 2000 Olympics I was the Aviation Security Project Officer, I was in contact with the California Department of Forestry. We almost had a deal with them to borrow 2 OV10's as our Police Patrol aircraft. I had studied the flight manual for weeks in anticipation of an endorsement.
The idea was canned by the Australian Government who didn't want US Military planes flying over the Sydney "Friendly Skies"
We ended up using Citation Jets and Cessna Caravans painted in "gentle" colours. Did the same again in APEC 2007 (pic below of our Police Citation)
I still would have preferred the Bronco!..
If you go with counter rotating props, make sure they rotate so the top of the prop moves inwards and the bottom moves outwards..
IE viewed from the back.. the left engine rotates clockwise. This will give you the best asymmetric performance due to P-factor at slow airspeeds.

Here's my 2 cents worth.
I thought you just had to switch one of the 3 leads on electrics to reverse the motor direction.
Steve
P.S. I'm looking for a manual for a hobbytron 48" OV-10 ARF.

I bought a couple of these last Fall. Have one flying with Eflite 25's. One pushing, one pulling. Think I have 12 X 10 props, maybe 12 x 8's. Run three cell's stuffed in the front of the fuse. You'll find the kit a disappointment in the plastic parts area. I ended up backing all the plastic parts with a layer of fiberglass. Used the fixed gear that came with the kit. The goofy elevator control was replaced with thin wing servo mounted on the horizontal stab. Flies good. I can only get 2200 batteries in there right now, working on a plan to put some larger ones in for longer flight times. Jerry.

I had forgotten about this post. I don't get on this site that much. My Bronco project was on hold last flying season. I got 3-bladed 9x7 pusher and puller for it. Using 850kv .25 equivalent motors on 4s. The specs for the motor says it will spin 10" to 14" prop. I believe I got room for 11" prop if I need larger prop. I put retracts on, added Hanger 9 pilots that move their heads w/rudder. I delayed the project until I did research on the long esc/battery wires dilemma. I decided to keep the esc/motor wires short, (for cooling of esc), battery wires are about 14" long. Weight w/o battery (if memory serves me right) is 6lbs. 6oz. I'll double check that.
Anyway, the counter rotating props look great. Amp draw seems ok. Haven't maiden yet, however, the thrust appears very good.
