Just started on mine.

Got my Saito 270 mounted up temporarily. I'm 7 inches from the firewall. I see in the directions that the glow engine was 6 inches from the firewall. Are you gas guys coming out as far as 7 inches? My question is to the stability of the cowl on the mounting ring since I'm 1/2 an inch closer to the back edge.

Also didn't someone do a pull-pull on the rudder with this arf? would love to know how it worked. I like the pull-pull in my DP Ultimates.

6"? Isn't it 6 1/2?Mine says 6.5". I got mine (DA 50) at 6.5 and since I had to move my cabanes up an 1/2 inch,I'm really close to the cowl with the cabanes...
The Eagle I got I think was a 1st run.. My cowl ring was made wrong, it sticks out of the fuse in some spots and is flush in the other spots. The wing doesn't fit in the saddle correct Plus the cabane holes being messed up!! ARG!!!![:@] This thing better fly outstanding or I'll never get another GP product again!!
Anyway, I was going to put my Saito 270 in mine but I was going to have to cut the top of the cowl for the carbs. How does yours look?

I just ordered the YW Engine YW-48B2 Twin cylinder for my Eagle. I like the weight of this one, 3.1 lbs. Anyone ever tried this one?

xtraflyr, With that many BIG problems and rework needed, I would see if GP or whoever you got it from would exchange it. Your cabanes shouldn't be that close to the cowl.

Are the problems xtraflyr is experiencing common? I am starting to wonder if my cowl is right or not?

help me out here. My cowl ring extends past the fuse around the top. then tapers down to flush or even a bit short on the sides and of course sticks out again on the bottom.

Is this correct?

I can bridge the short parts with glass cloth, my concern is, should I be calling GP about another cowl ring. Has there been a replacement or is this just the way it is?

I think that's the way it is. I had to sand pretty much all the way around the top to make it fit correctly. I did leave about a 1/16 of an inch gap between the cowl and the fuse all the way around. None of the cowl actually hit the fuse which, in my opinion is good. No vibration points where the cowl meets the fuse. My trim lined up perfectly. Don't be afraid to sand the high points but make sure you use plenty of microballoons and make the epoxy pretty thick so it doesn't run through any voids created by sanding.

For those who are interested, here's the incidence settings for the CEII from Great Planes.

Here are the different angles you're looking for:

Stab: 0 degrees
Bottom Wing: -1
Top Wing: +0.5
Engine: 2.5 degrees down, 1.8 degrees right

I just got one of the Great planes CEII and would like to know if the ZDZ40 that I have would work in this plane.

Yes, it will will be perfect for this plane.

My Poulan 50 pulls it with almost unlimited vertical. The ZDZ-40 matches the same RPM/prop speed as my Poulan (I have a ZDZ-40 pn my PW 300.) The ZDZ will be a bit lighter and will be even better.

Hello, I just received my GP Christen Eagle and have noticed a fit-up problem on the top wing. There is about a 3/32 gap at the trailing edge on each side where the tapered sections meet up with the center section. Anybody else seen this? Also I'm going to use an OS BGX-1 (2.2cu.in.) glow engine on this bird. I used this engine on my GP Patty Wagstaff and it was awesome with a Bisson Muffler.

Anybody having a fitup problem with the three top sections?

Anyone have an alternative to the foamy wheels that came with this bird -- they seem too insignificant for an 18-19 pound airplane.

I have the Eagle, not finished yet, and I have a DP Ultimate with foam wheels. I use a stand to set the plane on when its not flying. I figure its the price of having the light wheels. I flat spotted the foam wheels once and it sucks a bit but I haven't changed them out yet.

Yea thats one of the many problems I had with my Eagle. I just glued them together anyway. I dont think this is going to make it fly any different..

I used the foam wheels that came with it. It takes a couple of days or so for them to flatspot..
They seem to be better then the Dp ones. I had those on my Extra..

I replaced the foam wheels on my Pitts with Sullivan ProLite 4.5" rubber wheels. The 18+ lbs. of the Pitts or the CE will cause flat spots sooner than you would like. Also, the 4.5" wheels really worked much better when I had one grass landing. She rolled right on through with no wheel pant damage.

My Eagle is hanging from the wall, and therefore no problems with the foam wheels. I think if you rest the Eagle on a stand or hang it, you won't have any problems. It takes a while to go flat. I looked into chaning them out, but could not find a wheel that would fit inside the wheel pant with the proper spacing. The Sullivan and Dubro Wheels are wider then the provided foam wheel.

Tail Time, everything on my Eagle fitted just fine. I absolutely love this plane. It is a great flying Bipe with no bad habits. KE is awesome. I like it much better then my Pitts. Not usre why, but it just flies better.

I had a small gap on each side of the top wing. Nothing some epoxy and microballoons could'nt fix. My cabanes fit great!
Initially my center section was covered upside down and had to send the top wing back. Everybody was great and got everything in a couple days!

Unless the pants on the CE are a different size than the Pitts, the 4.5" will fit fine.

I'm in the process of installing the linkage on the rudder and elevators. This is the first delima I've had so far and I'm hoping you guys have the answer. What size servo arms are you guys using in the elevator/rudder servos? The arms that came with my Hitecs are long enough that if I install them as is, the elevator linkage and rudder linkage hit each other. Has anyone come across this problem besides me? What kind of throws do you really need and can the arms be shorter for adequate throws? For the guys that have already flown the Eagle, are you capable of doing any 3-D stuff? At least torque rolls? Thanks for any info you can give me.

Hi, just turn the rudder servo around. It should work fine. I used 1" long H9 metal servo arms. I also installed the tailwheel as recommended, and it works fine. Go with the recommended throws (at least on low rates). I think it will torque roll, but really not be a 3D monster. I have had mine in a hover (high), and it almost took full throttle (still have to play with a different prop, since I am only getting 6100 rpm out of my DA 50 and Biela 22x10). Will try a MSC 22x8 wooden prop next. Snaps and KE are a blast. I love mine, but it screams for smoke so will probably install that next. Unfortunately it is going to be extra weight.
