I love the Moki in mine. No lead up front and tons of power - I'm running 5945 and a 2200mha pack.

I'm starting to think this plane is more for IMAC than 3D - which is fine. I need the IMAC practice...

I agree, if you made the changes you mentioned steve, you would get a major difference. However, the 2 servo changes will not negate 13 ounces, it may help but not eliminate..

It's too bad that I put 5645's on all surfaces and just bought another 5 5645's for another plane...

Anyone wanna buy 2 NIB 5645's?

Going vert was your plane nose heavy when you checked the balance? I checked mine and it seems nose heavy @ 3.5" back with a Moki 1.80. Should I make changes or try flying it as is?

at 3.5" back at the tip I'm on the verge of tail heavy. I would not move it back any further. On landing the plane wants to balloon at 3.5". I would fly it at 3.5 and see what you think.

I flew my first IMAC event today (basic) and did well w/ the Cap X.

Cap-X maidened today. Needs work on the weight. It's just too much. Flew great. Nice plane...Going to work on putting the elevator servos in the front near the rudder servo to cut some weight out of the back....

Why do you think it weighs too much? Mine came in at 12.4# w/ the Moki. It feels fine to me at that weight.

Maybe the pull pull cables were binding at some point of deflection? That could have pulled the servo tray loose. Just a guess.

I put triangle stock under my rudder tray for extra support.

That and use Gorilla glue. It won't break loose ever again.

Where do you get Gorllia Glue? I've been looking for it at the hobby stores, but no one has it.

I have seen it at "Lowes". You can also try Home Depot.

Actually, I am doing a bunch of reconfiguring to the plane in order to reduce the tail weight. I moved the rudder servo tray (since it convenently un attached itself) to about where the CG is, on each side of the rudder but just a little higher up I am adding the elevator servos and am going to run CF rods out the original servo holes to the surfaces. I will have to move my horns about 1/8 inward, but that should not be a big deal...I took out of of the servo trays in the rear of the plane, that thing alone has to weight an ounce or so, combined with the 2 5645's that are moving to the front I should be reducing about 5-6 ounces out of the tail...this should drastically help my lead problem in the front (crossing fingers here)

Light plywood drinks thin CA. Five-minute epoxy would be better in this case.

Nova

To lose 10oz from the nose you do not need to remove 5oz from the tail. This is a basic statics problem.

10oz/distance from CG = Xoz/distance from CG.

Solve for X!

Goin Vert, you can get Gorrilla Glue from your local hardware store (Lowes, Home Depot, etc) Dampen one piece and apply the glue to the other, works great! Pro-Bond is basically the same thing.

WOOOOHOOOO!!!! Thanks to the great suggestions of my "3D teacher", I have been able to drop the 13 oz out of the nose!!!

I moved the servos to the front, and moved the rudder servo up to the front also. Got rid of the servo trays and ran CF Rods to the elevator horns. Also installed a support to keep the CF deflection (if there is any) at a minimum. After all the reconfiguring, I removed all the weight and put it on the CG machine and it balanced right off the bat, it was a miracle. Now, I am dying to know what she weighs....Cannot weigh till Saturday to get a scale from someone and see how much I saved and what the all up weight is... Here are some pics..

I should probably do something about the openings, but at this point it isn't worth the effort, more unnecessary weight..

looks good. Are you going to seal up the old elevator servo cut outs?

I dunno. Do you think I need to? There really is no clean way to do it other than to build a fram to put covering on...

Top notch job NOVAflier!

You easily dropped 8-10 oz.... worth the effort for sure....

May just have to repeat your steps there...

If you want, I can send you a quick drawing of the Elevator Servo tray, the Rudder tray is the same.
