hello fellow 300 fliers
will probably be buggin some of you I read the posts, they gave me some good info .
I picked up a wagstaff version of w.m 300 1.6 for free . cant beat it. just getting ready to start putting it back together. had some minor crash damage and some bad patching. she is solid once again wood wise. getting ready to recover it. downloaded the manual from w.m however as some of you laready noticed the instructions leave something to be desired.
i need to know what the stock size tank was for a nitro configuration and also i noticed some had put an O.S motor in w/ a pits style muffler.
how far down from the top edge did you mount the top engine mount. granted i am putting in a supertigre 3000 in it and measurements are a bit different but it will give me a starting point.
and those with a O.S configuration are you also in the 22x8 ballpark as far as prop size?
thanks for any help on these questions

Hi guys !
I am currently building one of those WM extra 300's as well. Mine will be powered with a DL50 (similar to DA50)
I am a bit puzzled about the CG. In this and other forums it was mentioned the CG should be between 6.25 and 6.5 inch. However in my kit manual it says 3.9 inch (100mm). There is no way that I can reach that without a massive load of lead !! Can this be a typo ? I check the manual
on the WM homepage and that one says 6.5 again......?
Thanks for your help

I have to agree with Shesha. There must be much better choices.
I bought one as there was nothing else available in a short time. IMAC is going very well but 3D not so good.
Hardware is absolutely a JOKE !! I have several WM planes and it was always reasonable but this does not work at all. It is the same stuff as on my WM Ultimate 120, which is much smaller.
Wing mounting (tapping screw and normal screw thru wingtube) gives a lot of play on the wings. Dowels in the wings have already a lot of play after 10 flights. Broke both main wheels even without hard landings and tail wheel is far too light.
I fly it with a Chinese DL50 which is doing very well.
It can handle hard landings. I made a serious smash on the landing strip when landing with a 20 mph cross wind and besides severely bending the landing gear, the main wheels (again) and a little crack at the landing gear mounting there was nothing wrong.
For me it was the first step in the gas world and will use this one to trash around after upgrading the hardware, but have a SD Models 30% YAK on it's way :-D

From what I hear, the lanier is heavy. I think the airwild might be nice, but more expensive. I really cant find any flaws with the WM extra. I'm a firm believer that if you want 1/3 scale performance, you'll be happiest with a 1/3 scale plane. To get a 27% plane to fly like a 33% plane is asking alot, it just isnt the same. It seems that 33% is the magic number where the laws of physics and aerodynamics allow the plane to come alive, especially in 3D. That 6% seems small, but amounts to much more in the grand scheme of things.

I dont know how other planes end up in weight. MyWM Extra is 7,5 kg (16,5 lbs). That is with 50cc gas engine. CG came out nice between 6.25 and 6.5 inch without adding any lead.
For me the choice was easy, there was nothing else available at that time (are stationed in China) and it was dead cheap. Plane and engine were cheaper than a OS FS120.......
It flies good but I am just not impressed by the hardware and wing mounting, just not usable and not of the normal (reasonable) WM standard.
By the way, I lost the cockpit as the dowels broke out. They were just directly glued in the balsa......Luckily nothing really badly happened

95% of the time on any plane this size, i never use the hardware or hinges that come with the kit. On the WM 27% ultimate, I used almost all of the included hardware. On the 300 I swaped out the horns (I like the single hole post type - less drilling) and used the radial mount for my BGX. Check out my wing mounting solution - it works! (If you can find neon sign parts - pain in the butt!) I did put a nice tailweel on it. So maybe I have another 50 bucks in it. Mine is 14 lbs with the 210 glow, and i'm havin fun! (blowin $ on glow, but still havin fun!)

Here is a the lanier thread, it's a good plane though no where near to what an airwild would weigh at, even though the plane is very light in handling when it comes to a da50 setup.
