I just rebuilt my twist after flying it with a p.o.s engine and an encounter with the top of some tree's after a dead stick or should I say after another dead stick in fact every flight with that engine ended with a dead stick anyway just for the heck of it I stuck a magnum 61 four stroke in it. I picked up this engine in a trade and decided to give it a try. After running it up on the ground I don't think it will have the snort I like in a plane but I'll give it a whirl maybe play with a couple props and see how it runs and flys. My next choice would be my Webra speed 50 but then I have to add a heavy hub for balance and I don't want to have to do that, maybe I'll have to spring for one of those Saito 80's. I'll have to take the twist and my funtana 90 out this weekend and see how both of them fly, I had so many problems with the first engine on the twist I didn't get a chance to do much with it and the funtana is brand spankin new and has a big plenty of power with the O.S. 1.60 on the nose [X(].

I aquired a Twist last weekend. inside the leading edge box section of the wing was a 1" section of that disposable razor blade material. plus a broken rib (minor ). who makes theses things? that is being in a serious hurry when you leave tools in your plane even after covering. I had to cut the covering on both ends to get the "excess" material out. other than that, a very nice ARF.

I got my Twist fly'n today I had more fun in one day with this plane than the whole time I had the Funtanna Started out @ 4 1/2" to be on the safe side. Rest of the day was @ 4 3/4". Next weekend I'll have to put it @ 5" [8D] I need to bump my low rates up just a touch, got the high rates set for as much throw as I could get. Tried to hover some, but wasn't pretty...... Hey it was my first day with it, gotta cut me alittle slack Flat spins were OK..... need to move the cg back farther to make'm alittle more flat, the nose was pointed down some. I was try'n to do a lomcevac.... & ended up in a inverted flat spin [8D] It was perfect, sooo flat & slow (the decent). Don't know how I got into it as I tried to do it agin, but couldn't for some reason... Go figgure? I did have one misshap.... I was having so much fun I didn't pay attention to how long I had been flying. So as I was going vertical to do another spin, the prop stopped. I yelled- O S#!T (calling deadstick didn't come to mind for some reason, but everyone got the point). I let it fall over, then after it picked up some speed I did a half roll, then the dumb thumbs set in. I still had ele high rate on & dorked it into the high weeds. Only damage was the left ele had a broke counterbalance. I was sure I was go'n to need to buy a new one, the way it went in. Luck was on my side this time
BTW, gear-Saito .72, APC 13x4W, SuperSlim RX, HS-300's.

Sounds like you had a blast! I'm glad there wasn't much damage to the plane after the dead stick.

I had a couple hours of fun out of mine today too!!!

Hey guy's I killed my Twist saturday and picked one up sunday, took 5 hours today to have it ready to fly. I flew the twist on and off saturday for almost 6 hours and had a ball even though the wind was gusting to around 25mph as long as she was under power it was no problem. I put it back together after an earlier crash and had a magnum 61 4 stroke in it and running a 15x4 zinger on 15% fuel this little plane was a riot but I flew it out of gas and tried to make one to many turns and it went in. Saturday was a rough day on my planes but I almost have the funtana firewall back together and a new twis so all will be well in my hangar again.

I'm hoping I don't kill mine yet!!! Haven't flown it yet but I set the throws at about 50%. I had to add weight up front to balance at around the 4 1/2...4 3/8 mark. I have an Evo .46 up front with 11x6 prop. Not enough to do hovers or harriers but I want to get used to the plane's characteristics first. Those are some awfully big control surfaces on this plane!!!!

Gadfreys! Mine only took 1/4 ounce of lead in the tail to balance but I used a Saito .80 for power. MM

I'll definitely be mounting my TT Pro .46 as far forward as possible! I've good a pretty good track record of seldom having to add lead to balance planes, and I definitely don't want to add any to this bird!

I finally took the OS 46 LA out of mine and got my new K&B .48 in it. Almost done with the break-in, and can't wait to get it in the air!!

Now I want to recover it this winter, maybe leave the base yellow, and do some air brushing. Just something different.

Backwing, how did yours fly with the .46 LA in it? I'm sure you could shoot it like a rocket in verticle but were you able to do nice snappy rolls etc.?

uhh, i am not sure. my .46 fx has enough power to pull out of a hover, but not anything spectacular. the .46 la is pretty weak. i doubt it wil hold it at a 1:1.

You had to add 1/4 oz of weight? Did you try moving the engine back or the battery back as far as it would go?

I am going to be trying to use a ys63s on this. I am curious if anyone has had any luck getting this thing in a climbing flat spin with that setup.

Also.. does anybody try to put the tank on the cg. Any stories on that? Makes the setup easy, hard, tricks, etc.

I am waiting on my JR DS811's to come back from JR. The POTS went out on all 5 of them. As soon as they are back I will be up flying mine.

Dave, it was a good sport flier with the 46LA, but nothing spectacular. That would be the minimum engine I would suggest anyone put in it.

has anyone experienced any flutter [sm=confused.gif] The club I'm in, 3 of us have a Twist (Make that 2, as 1 is yet payed to be a member [sm=tired.gif]), anyho.... Tim has put his Twist in some pretty high speed dives, pulling level for a highspeed pass along the runway [sm=eek.gif]. I've yet to notice any flutter, which surprised me. I haven't done any highspeed passes w/mine yet, though I've wondered if it'd hold together through some of the spins I've put it in.
I only glanced at the manual putting it together.... so not sure if sealing the hinges was in it or not, but I sealed all my hinges w/clear monokote. I'm not a big fan of CA hinges on a plane that has as large of controll surfaces that the Twist has, so I figured the monokote would act as a secondary hinge..... makes Me feel alittle better about it anyway

I have a new Evo .46 in mine. I had to add about 6 ounces to get it to balance between 4 and 5 inches. I followed the directions
on where the engine mounts. It comes out way tail heavy. I'm hoping the damn thing will take off with this added weight. I will be
putting on something bigger but I want to get used to how it flies first.

I haven't had any flutter problems with mine but I have had both aileron hinges at the wingtips fail. They have both been fixed but it is probably just a matter of time before they go again. I haven't sealed my hinge gaps and it would probably be a good idea. I do fly mine pretty hard. The guys at the field all gather around to watch me fly mine in expectation of the wing exploding when I pull off another high speed wall. I wondered if the CA hinges would be enough when I was setting it up. Looks like it could use something a little stronger - at least at the wingtips. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to install an extra aileron hinge at each end of the wing to make sure they last longer. Unfortunately this isn't easy to do once the plane has already been assembled.

Finished my Twist last night.....put it on the CG machine and it balanced at right at 4.75" behind the LE with NO ADDITIONAL WEIGHT needed! Thanks for everybody's tips stating that the plane builds tail heavy...I was able to counteract that through the assembly process.
I should be maidening it Tuesday or Wednesday. I don't have an accurate scale, but it feels slightly lighter than my Phoenix Fun Star 3D, which pretty much had unlimited vertical with the same engine/prop combination. (TT Pro .46 & APC 12.25x3.75)

Does anyone try to put the tank on the cg on this. I had to get a smaller tank and it is kinda sqeezed in there. Worries me a little if this thing is kinda tail heavy. Thinking about putting the battery up where the gas tank goes in the directions.

I'm just finishing my Twist and I have question on glueing the canopy on. Do I have to use canopy glue or can I use another kind of glue?
Thanks

My canopy, I just used a light coat of 30 minute epoxy. After marking where the canopy fits, I roughed up the surface a bit and glued it in.
Works fine!
Maidened mine tonite! With almost the 6 ounces up front to hit the CG, the evo .46 pulled it along at a very good clip! Take off was a little hairy in that the plane shot up at almost 60 to 70 degrees. I trimmed the elevator down about 4 clicks and it leveled out. Just flew a few flights with it to get used to the control. It flies much more differently than my Arrow. And alot faster! I am gonna like this plane!!!!
Hay, Thing 1 loves it!!!!

I saw a good idea for canopy installation. Use screws. I pre-drilled the holes and used some 1/2" screws I had laying around. 6 screws total, and alot easier than epoxy.
