I thought about a Zenoah engine, I did some research. The Brillelli 47 cc weighs less than most engines and has much more power. I had a long talk with Scott and this engine should be sweet! I won't be running it full on most of the time. I like to have extra power when I want it. It is a Super Stearman, not a plain old Stearman. The Super Stearman had a Kick Ass engine! I don't think it's a macho thing, but I do like power! I like fast cars and fast motor cycles all so. I will beef up the firewall and tail area though.

when I flew my super stearman for the first time, it was a little tail heavy, with the brillelli 26 on the front. It has enough power that it would try to torque roll the plane when the throttle was advanced to fast with a xoar 18/6 on it. So be carefull with such a hot engine as the 47 brillelli.

I haven't measured the thrust, don't have a way to do it, but it only has about a 20 foot or less take off roll. I might have to rebuild the engine though, we put it in a scratch build today to try it out with the 26 and had a nasty midair with it. Thought I was going to be able to get it down, then the wing departed the fuse. S**t happens once in awhile don't it.

Sorry to hear about you losing your plane. Losing a plane to pilot error is one thing but when you go down like that is always a big pill to swallow…unless of course it was your fault.
That is why our club and AMA require a spotter when flying. Fortunately it has not happened to me, nor have I seen one and I don’t think the club has had one in a long time that I can remember. I’ve even got on a spotter or 2 and told them they are not there just to watch me fly. Also the club limits the number of flyers in the air at one time to 5, I think the AMA says 7, can’t remember. The club also has assigned marshals to talk to unsafe people, especially on weekends when there is a lot of flyer out.
I try not to fly with more then 2 or 3 and when the aerobatics guys are flying or when I know someone (the nuts) who is not very safe in their flying practices.
I’m always amazed at how many don’t do a range checks any more and a few that I see don’t even check their planes for lose screws and nuts…ect. I make it a practice to do all that and more, every time I fly.
I am currently teaching my 8 yr granddaughter to fly and before we fly we check everything! Just like the full size pilots do.
Sorry to spout off but I get a little frustrated with people who show no concern for others.
When I first started flying I was shy and didn’t say mush to people but I’ve come to realize it’s important to speak up even if someone doesn’t like it and I have turned a few people off but when it comes to personal safety there is no question. Besides the fact that one may have hundreds of dollars plus…plus invested in a plane I think it is sin not to say anything. I recently got into a row with a guy because he let his kids run around unattended and he was offended. Again I was amazed he just didn’t get it. I love kids and I like to see them at the field but I would rather be an a…hole then to see a kid get hurt maybe even permanently.
Sorry again I’m getting carried away. Just be safe and considerate with your fellow flyers and we will all be happier.

Hey can somebody point me to some cool pictures of completed dummy engines. I would like to make it look more realistic the what they are showing in the instructions.

They are still just toy airplanes, mind you toys that will bite sometimes. It is in our by laws too to have a spotter, and every one who flys has one, but accidents still happen occasionaly, it is the first collision our club has had since we started 5 years ago.
But on the bright side it was a pretty good show!

Watching a speeding Cap 232 fly right thru my 81" Piper Cub was a good show.
Watching my last Super Stearman getting shot down was not a good show either.
I don't fly at sanctioned flying sites anymore. I'd rather fly off a quiet country road with noone around except me and maybe a couple of close friends, but alone is fine too...
I don't really enjoy having spectators around when im flying, it's annoying at best.

Im impressed... Im surprized they were willing to do that. Yeah, the tires are junk, but get you by for a while. It's a shame we can't bend the landing gear to make the wheels track straighter. Im afraid it would break the fiberglass covering. This is my 2nd GPSS, and the tires tend to wear off at a severe angle. Never thought I would rotate the tires on a model airplane before. Thats ok, the awesome appearance of these bipes is worth goin thru a few tires along the way. I think the Super Stearman is the best lookin plane ever produced.
I dunno, there's just something about the way everything flows together, pure style...

I wonder if all the kits have the same problem with the tires? It will be a while before I start building mine. I'm trying to get my other planes in good order. If it has not been a long time since you bought your last plane, I would ask Great Planes to replace the landing gear. The most they could say is no. They might know of a way to take care of the problem. Did your first plane do the same thing? I think the same way, this is a good looking plane with style. Do you remove the wings every time you go out? I hope I can haul it in the back of my pick-up.

Wanted...some ideas for the trottle adjustment extension. I'm using Saito 150 and there is about 3 inchs from the trottle adjustment screw to the cowling wall. My only idea is to use a wire (push rod) that is attached to the trottle adj. screw with the set screw and extends out the side. Does any one have a better idea.

Throttle adj screw ? Do you mean throttle stop screw ? That should never have to be readjusted. If you mean high speed needle, it has a set screw to secure a wire extension, and the low speed needle can be adjusted thru a small hole in the cowling.

Yes the high speed adjustment, that's was what I was talking about but wanted to see if anyone had come up with a better idea. I've done it that way before and had a problem getting the cowling on sence the wire has to protrude out the side of the cowling.
Thanks for the imput.

Shubova,
I run an OS 120 in mine, I made a 90 degree bend just long enough to grip and to see, but instead of drilling a hole in the cowl, I made a small slit that is
as long as the small "handle" part of the extension. When you need to remove the cowl you have to align the wire so it slips through the slit in the cowl, but if
you remember how much and what direction you turned the needle, you can just turn it back when the cowl is on.
On my WACO, I was able to solder a piece of cable between the extension and the needle valve, and the cable let me exit behind the cowl on that one.
Sorry my explanation is not clear, I' having a hard time describing how I bent a piece of wire [X(]

Thanks, very good idea. Don't worry about explanation, I got it.
I was thinking of connecting a wire with the set screw at the throttle screw. At the cowling put a hole and insert a small grommet. Instead of having a bend in the wire keep it straight and put an E Z connector with a set screw at the end. That way I’ll only have a straight wire to deal with when install and removing the cowling
