Very nice airportbum! I really like it a lot. I have the usual looking one with a G26 on it and it used to fly great. I redid the trolttle linkage and now it's very unpridictable in flight. It's very slugish at times and touchy at other times. I need to put in a throttle curve to make the throttle more linear. I know that's part of the problem. I'm just couious, do you have a throttle curve on your? Also, on your high rates, what do you have your expo settings at?

Hey guys! it's good to see those remakes of the Stearman. Airportbum, that is a real beauty! And you Mr. Brit, I still think yours is quite nice too. I have seen the video of it flying and it is smooth! I have a picture of another remake with the three cylinder on it but you would not believe that it is painted! I kid you not! This man said that the finish is strait out of the gun! I actually insulted him when I asked him if it was Monocote! Sorry dude, it was meant as a complement. That is the kind of paint I would gladly put my Monocote work up against!
Anyway, I have solved my engine issues and it is a great flier. I didn't realize how much I missed it!
Well, cherio and adios and all that stuff guys. Good to hear from you again. Keep up the beautiful work.

Sorry for the late reply, I have been away on vacation. Mine has a very simple setup, no expo on the controls and a belcrank on the throttle to use alot of servo throw with very little throttle plate movement if that makes sense. I did add a little more up elevator as the cg moved forward after replacing the OS 120 with a G23. It allowed much better 3 point landings. Attached is a picture taken at the State of Maine Scale Shootout last weekend parked next to Charlie Nelsons Waco. The crowd seemed to like Barbi riding the top wing and the old G23 belching smoke. airportbum, that is absolutly beautiful. I love the color scheme. That radial looks so real. I was wondering how is the vertical with the G23 in there and the smoke system full of oil. Do you know what your final weight is?

Hey,
Does anyone have any extra white and red covering? I clipped the bottom wing on a bad landing and had to do some repairs. I need about a foot of each.

You're truly a genius (?) Normally I don’t response to ridiculous comments but I must say, it amazes me that there is always one [sm=bananahead.gif]that would take the time to be a wise ass.

You are truly a gentleman and true RC brother. [sm=thumbup.gif] I appreciate the offer; I will be in contact with you. It’s good to know that there are still decent people out there that care about the hobby and other members of the RC Community.
Thanks & Happy Landings!

From: Oakdale, CA,
I just got my box from Tower last week. I can't make up my mind about engines, though. I had planned on either the Saito 170R or 182T but after a frustrating weekend with my trusty OS 61 doing everything but run while watching the electric guys fly over and over while I dealt with one silly problem after another I've started thinking seriously that just maybe electrons make more sense than nitro. I know there are a couple of electric GP Stearmans out there. What kind of problems have been seen converting this plane to electric? Is there any safe place to put a battery hatch? Also, I would have thought that the additional drag of a bipe would make for really short flights. If someone could steer me to a thread covering the entire electric conversion of a Stearman maybe then I could make a decision. BTW, this would be my first foray into electric. Thanks.

I was under the assumption that you didn't know that anyone carried the covering for this plane. Should have expected that from a nonbuilder.

Agreed! This is not the place to vent. In fact, as I write this I can read the RCU Policies just above. Funny, you two didn't see it. I have often said that 'it is never too late to have a happy childhood' but lets all be grown ups in between playing. As the 'policy' says; "if you have to vent, take it off line. Or, get kicked off of this blog and RCU. It is clearly stated! If you think they are kidding, keep it up. Then we won't have to chastise you anymore! They'll make you pick up your toys and go home!
Now, this is a serious statement and we will see just how mature you can be. You both need to post an apology for misbehaving. It takes a real man to admitt when he is wrong. And if you don't, then you are acting like that 'A' word you called each other!
Think I'm kidding, it should be your first posting before you get back to business!
Have a nice day. bird.
P.S. If you respond to my statement, be nice. If you apologise, we will all forget it ever happened and things will be back to normal. After all, we all make mistakes. Right? Right! All of us!

I apologize to the members of this thread; it was never my intent to disrupt the flow.
As you can see in my original post, I was just asking if someone had any extra covering so I wouldn’t have to buy 2 whole rolls. If I wanted to buy some I would have asked “Where can I buy a certain covering from?
True it was wrong of me to respond to mrbiggs statement...in most cases I normally don't respond to things like this. I guess I should be use to people cracking wise after all these years in this hobby. FYI: I’ve been building and flying rc planes for about 15 years.
If you what to make assumptions, one could summize that if I own and fly a Stearman that I would be at level of experience to know all about Tower Hobbies and the thousands of other hobby shops that carry rc supplies, that was my point!
I have learned a lot from this thread and hope that I that have contributed to it too in my previous posts. And when I need info on the Stearman this is the tread I go to.
I’ll end this now and forever by repeating what rctan said in his response to my inquiry: "What are neighbors for if they can't help each other!"
Isn’t this what these threads are all about.
Thanks and Happy Landings!

Good job Subova, I thank you very much for your response. It takes a lot of charactor to do what you did. We all have to be brought down a couple of clicks once in a while. Just remember that there are people out there in this hobby that 'have fun' at the expence of others. They seem to have been an out cast of some sort for a large part of their life and think that razzing others is the way to communicate. Unfortunately they are the ones beating themselves up trying to enjoy this sport. I try to not only refer to this as a hobby but also a sport. I think that it ought to be televised as often as a ball game, sort of, to promote it. That is another key to this hobby/sport, YOU, as a modeler, whom ever you are, should promote it so others have an opportunity to expand thier talents. I must say that in all of the last forty-four years that I have enjoyed this hobby/sport, it has opened many other doors of creativity. What talented prople modelers are! Don't you think? Well, most of them.
Anyway, enough of my spouting off. Thanks again for your understanding. We all look forward to continuing with you. bird.
Sorry, this wasn't in response to rcmigpilot. I just clicked on the last post. Thanks.bird.

If you have never flow a biplane you are in for a thrilling and very cool experience.
I would agree with rcmigpilot. I don’t know much about going electric with the Stearman but I do know she’s on the heavy side and what I have seen large electric planes need a lot of battery, which adds to the overall weight. I would add up the power and weights than compare them. And again you’ll have to figure out a place to put the battery and make sure you have enough airflow over it.
As for me I’m using a Saito 180 4 stroke and I have found that that’s more power than you would ever need for this plane. On the other hand having the extra power has saved it a few times usually on take off.
The G26 seems to be the recommend gas engine, which is equivalent to a 120 4 stoke. If I were to build another one I would use a Saito 150.
I have just got into electric on a couple of small planes and true electric is nice but still, in my opinion, there is nothing that beats the roar of a gas engine.
One more thing I have said this before and I'll repeat it again. As your building the Stearman make sure the bottom wing, top wing and horizontal stab are all at "0" degrees incedence to each other. This was my first biplane and I didn't think about it; and the instructions didn't say anything about it either. I was a few degrees positive, needless to say it was fun first flight.
After your first flight you can adjust the top wing if you feel you have to. Mine are at "0" and it flys great.
Good Luck

Shubova, that saito seems to be a good choice for your plane. I Have one of the early G-23's in mine and it does pretty good. The thing about this engine is that it takes a lot to break it in but once it is broken in, it developes it's potential power. It does however fly more scale than if it had a 150 in it. That is where this plane performs best in my opinion. Any plane will fly fast and do all of the doo-dads with excess power. The real challenge is to fly a scale plane scale. But what ever! If you are having a good time with yours like I am with mine, then, that is what counts! Just remember that without the flying wires, you can pull the top wing off! I don't mean the stretchy ones in the box, I mean really putting cables on it and tightening them. Then you will be able to perform safe tough manouvers. The full size is capable of sustaining 12 G's!!!! But, there is no way that you could put a full size in that situation!
My friend and I have been rebuilding a full size for the pase few years. It is a remarkable plane. 1941 vintage.
So long for now buddy. Bird.

Well Mrbigg, perhaps you don't owe an apology but in retrospect, perhaps if you didn't reply at all to his statement, then it might not have escaladed to the point that it did. Now we can go back an forth why we think the other is right or wrong but the point is, don't give the other guy a chance to be retorical! Anger only causes more anger and in this case it did.
A week from now you wouldn't even know what it was all about if you just said nothing but now it is an issue that sticks in your craw and everyone elses. Now if we can stop the bantering we can get back to the Stearman. I'm sure I'm not popular now because I have said something but it is all of our business to keep others from getting kicked off of this sight. There are fatherly figures on this sight, as well as others, and there are child like figures too. Whick one would you like to be? It's your choice. I have already picked mine! So, lets let it go and go back to the Stearman as you said.
This is where I am going to let it go. No matter what anyone says about this 'dead' subject again, I won't respond any further to it. That, I would consider being child like! bird.
