Great work, your on the downhill side now. Keep it up so you don't have to move it in pieces.

After reading all this posts I decide to get one, I will be using a magnum 61 4-stroke I think this will be a good match.
This is what I'm going to do:
Not glue the wings
Balance @90mm
Use metal clevises
10 oz tank.

I have decided to up the power in mine from the 46AX to a 61FX. As soon as I get the change done and tested, I will post a report. I just think it needs more performance than the 46 can bring to the table.

That ought to be a great combo... Been thinking of putting a .72 in mine... The .56 is getting a little boring

I haven't read the whole thread but I won one of these at our Club's giveaway in February. It's a very good looking model and I'm looking forward to getting it out to the field.

After some thought and some of the posts here I decided to give it a go with a Magnum 91rfs. [>:]

I got rid of that little muffler cut out under the front end and completed the box so that I could put the tank lower. I'll mount the engine inverted and have the tank plenty low enough to run well I think. There is lots of room in there for the tank. I suppose it would do to upgrade to a 10oz but for now unless I get get to the lhs this week I'll stick with the 8. I think I have enough metal clevis' to replace the plastic ones...

Anyway - I'll post some pics of my engine installation once it is done. Might be tonight, might be wednesday or thursday. My goal is to fly it this weekend.

Your going to enjoy it... Great plane...
If you head to the hobby shop you might want to consider replacing the tail wheel also.. I found the wire on the supplied on to be too soft... I was having to rebend it every two or three landings.. I replaced mine with a sullivan unit and it is working great..

I was down with a virus the last couple weekends and haven't been able to. I did sneak out past Mrs. Nurse Sunday, staked it down and set fuel curves on the 9Z and tweaked the engine in, in the front yard, until she caught me and marched me back inside and reconnected the IV with the chicken soup vat. Hope the weather cooperates next weekend, then maybe I can get it tested and a report out. I just ordered a new aluminum spinner from Tower for it. The cheap plastic one they provided warped while changing and testing props. Ended up with the APC 15X6, turning about 8,850 and 2300 idle rpms. Cough, cough, still working and trying to get rid of this crud.... hope none of you catch it, hurry go to another post, I may still be contagious.

BTW, I posted several pictures on another Pheonix SD thread, don't remember, but a week or so ago.

my psd is on its way, just ordered it a couple of days ago. I also ordered a .52 magnum four stroke. is that underpowered for the plane? it seems everybody is putting on larger engines than recomended...

I wouldn't call it underpowered. It won't have unlimited vertical, but it will perform very scale aerobatics with ease. I would think that is a better choice than my 46 AX as well, given the added torque. However, I just want to see what she will do with the 61FX in her.

I mounted my engine last night, inverted. Need to get a remote glow ignitor though; that's the one thing that is really irritating about inverted setups - trying to hook up that ignitor.

I'll probably get it mostly finished tomorrow night.

I mounted my Saito .56 as far out on the rails as possible, in the stock position and also have to use a remote glow setup... Then angle on the plug would require a big ugly hole in the cowl and chopping out a section of the firewall to get the igniter on the plug otherwise... That one caught me by surprise... No problem though, I had one handy...

I have a question about mounting .52 magnum four stroke.. if its required to mount it inverted, then how does the crankcase breather operate properly. and is there a way to mount it right side up?, I would prefer that the best..

The instructions show the engine mounted on it's side which will work just fine... The 4 strokes run just fine upside down also and the the crankcase vent works fine in that position... Big plus is upside down the valve train gets a litte more oil...

Not to worry, it is a pretty easy build... Hardest part is probably getting engine positioned on the rails... I mounted the Saito as far back (towards the firewall) as it would go and still was about a quarter inch to far out on the prop flange... No biggie though .. I just fit the cowl to the front of the engine and mounted it there... This left a little gap on the bottom of the cowl but that is good.. A good space is needed down there for ventalation... Worked out good... I mention this because you may run into the same thing with your OS 4 stroke...

Has any one here stuffed a 60 or 75 2stroke into the plane? If so were you able to get a larger tank in to match?? I am wondering how if it would work with a 60 FX or a TH 75 or am I better off going to my ASP Super 52 2 stroke?!?[8D]
