Default Super Flying Models Eindecker

I have just finished putting together a SFW Eindecker 40. This model was alot on fun to build, I only hope it flys as well as it looks. I have put a Tiger Shark 46 engine in her and I hope this motor work well. I test the engine the last weekend and it seems to have alot of power. I did notice the gas tank that came with the model leaked, so I replaced the tank with another one I had and that took care of that. Has anyone flown this moldel?

Thanks

Jim

Default YEP!!!

This is one nice flying machine....I have a TT.46 up front and it pulls it around very well.

Except for the sticky back covering....this is one good deal.

Thanks for the input. Did you have any trouble with the supplied gas tank leaking? I am planning on using an 11x6 prop on her. Do you think this well work out OK?

Can you fly her real slow with a 46 engine for power?

Thanks

YES! the fuel tank was 'tight' but when muffler pressure was applied, it sprayed a fine mist of fuel all the way back to the servo area!

Yes, the plane can fly very slowly...of course all those 'wires' helps

I found Rustoleum paint that almost matched the maroon color! And this was my first time MONOKOTING a fiberglass cowl - and didn't do too bad after all

PS Don't expect any shock absorbing landings.....

Thanks for the feed back. I am looking forward to flying her soon. This is my second plane. I just learned to fly my trainer last summer and I was hopeing this would be a good second plane.

Thanks

This will make an excellent second plane - take-off distance can be on the short side so be ready....also I have the elevator set at 0 degrees in neutral, and it will take off with just a bump of up.

I also have this plane. Overall I love it but my fuel tank leaked and the replacement fuel tank leaked, I am glad I had fuel proofed the tank area and firewall with polyeurethane. I finally found an aftermarket tank that seems to be working ok. I have an MDS 48 in it and it takes off in about 10 feet and goes straight up!!! I found it to be a very rugged plane also as I have bounced it in hard a few times with no damage. Butch in Niagara Falls

This is a great airplane to fine turn your flying skills on. My Tiger Shark 46 will take her strieght up as well. But I like flying around nice a slow and doing touch and goes at the field. It is also nice looking at her when you do a low level straffing run on the field. I hope you are have as much fun with this plane as I have. Good Luck

I'm ordering this plane this week, as you will see- I have posted with alot of questions and these guys are great. So now, my question for you: What are you painting with the rustoleum adn is it needed to paint or monocote the cowl--? Or does it come in a burgundy color already ? I have also hear that a few people have had the gas tank issue-- can someone reply with a good alternative ? Specifically a link to a page with the suggested replacement--

Thanks All,

This plane is so cool I'd like to see this thread grow for awhile----

As far as what they are painting I can only think it is the inside of the fusalage where the gas tank goes. It is a good idea to do that. I did not go buy a new gas tank becasue of the way the firewall is cut for that type of tank. I went to my local hobby shop and got a sullivan gas tank fuel top that fit it. Cost only $2.00. My LHS let me try a couple until I had one that would work. I fell this is the best way to go because of the way the tank mounts into the firewall.

You will have a great time with this kit. Use a good running 46 and you will have all of the power you need. Good Luck

Hi Guys me again,

Ok Got an Irvine .53 coming. Need to know (remember I'm new at this) , what is the best kind of prop for me with the Eindecker Arf. What would you guys reccomend ?

Also, do I need fuel filters ? Tower has these listed as accesspries with almost every plane they sell. Last question-- I have doen extensive research on these forums and it seemslike a mixed bag . . . How is the most effective and best way to fuel proof my plane ? Internal and external--I've heard everything from rustoleum to babybowder and denatured alcohol to special dope only available if stolen fromsecret government lab <ha-ha>--Oh yea already took your guys suggestions and bought a voltwatch today . . .10.95 at hobbytown.

Thanks,

Tbird

I use polyurethane , its cheap, goes on easy and seems to work great as i had two leaking tanks on my eindecker, before Assembly just paint the firewall and inside the fuel tank compartment, on the eindecker it is very accessible before you put the cowling on. I have done four planes with a little can of it and still have lots left. It is fuel proof as my leaking tanks did no damage that i could tell and it wiped up ok, nice and dry wood. good luck to ya Butch in Niagara Falls NY

A 12X5 size wood prop. (if you can find one with rounded tips it will look better when the plane is sitting.) Its not going to be a fast plane... so you want to make the most efficient use of your power... make LOTS of static thrust for getting the thing off the runway.

Hi all...

Haven't being paying attention to post on the Eindecker for a while... I baught mine early last yr... I put an ASP / Magnum 61 fourstroke in mine... Sounds great... Flys even better... I fly it very scale even with the larger motor... That 61 fs purrs so nice and sounds even better... I always get tons of compliments on it at the 3 different fields I fly at. A guy baught one like mine after he saw me fly it... He went the cheap route and baught a 40 2 stroke for his and regrets it now... The 4 stroke just seems to fit the style of the plane so much better... I'm probably going to switch to a wood prop on mine for looks and get away from the Groupner... Even though it performs great with it.

PS: I posted some of my other planes so you can see I like different style of flying ( WACO 60 BIP / GP Shoestring). Someday days you wanna go fast, others a little WILD, some it's fun to just sit back and relax with MY EINDECKER!

Hi fellow RAMS member! We haven't yet flown our EIIIs together yet but they are at least close together here in the forum. Since this seems to be EIII central, here are my pics and don't forget to check out the movie.

Hi Chevelle;

LOL As you all can see his looks nicer then mine... Great Job putting that one together... Haven't got to fly with you yet at the fields... Your's looks way nicer then mine.. in the pics and at the field... I flew mine so much early in the year that I wore out the alerons.... they were all sloppy... Love the plane. This spring we have to get together and fly them... I know a guy who has one that flys at North Hampton... Maybe we can get the three of of us and fly some formation... Would be nice... See you when the snow melts...

I put some ski's on mine and flew it in the snow yesterday, ski's worked great, plane takes off in just a few feet with the MDS 48 and a graupner 11 x 6 prop. Taxi's ok on the ground also, my third tank seems to be holding fuel better than the first two. Soooo don't wait for the snow to melt, but some ski's on your plane. I also bought a cheap plastic toboggan to lug my field box out to our field as its a bit of a hike in the winter. good flyin to ya Butch in Niagara Falls[8D]

OK, So it was a Great Weather day in Rochester NY and I got to take a couple planes out to fly... Had my son on a buddy box and he did great Flying my Eindecker. A new guy to RC who I know who hangs at the local hobby shop ( great guy ) was there, he has his AMA, but only has flight time on the GP simulator... I took him up on the buddy box he did a great job at first... After about 5-6 min of flight I got a little over confident with him let him get too low to the ground and not sure what happened, but he got the plane pointed straight down and I couldn't pull it out.... Had to dig the engine out of the ground... Stupid on my part... Next time keep it high... It's the Instructor on the controls who has ultimate control of the plane... Lesson learned... Good thing... It's just a airplane and another one is on order and will be here next week. The comedian in the pic is my son... He told me I had to get another one... He loves to fly it!
