I'm surprised ou had to add weight to the tail? Most have to add weight to the nose. With my 61fs I didn't add anything to the tail. Maybe thats why you are nosing up with power.

i thought the tail weight may be making it climb? but i did leave it a tiny bit nose down on balance. at first i adjusted the elevators because i had to use too much trim down on them.

OK the Eindecker came already. Not a bad looking ARF at any price. I had to buy some aluminum covering for the cowl, yours all look so good that way. [X(]Yikes!! the Saito .65 is 19.4oz. and your Magnum .61 is 15.5oz. that's just an eyelash shy of 4oz. by my calculation. I may reconsider that thought, but not to worry I have an LA .46 new in the box, and it's been drawing dust in the laundry room for about two years
. Anyway if it's like the little .25 LA I used to have they are reliable and quiet
.Anything other than the fuel tank I need to watch for? Wow! Im ready to assemble. I flew my spacwalker and pizzaz this morning between the wind and rain.
Well the LA .46 it is, dang the only other 4s I have is a magnum .52 in my clip cub, but it's perfect in that plane. Wow! can't wait to fly this.

Epoxy; I would go with the .52 because it is perfect for this plane... The four with it's low end torque fly the plane great at low speads...
Just my opinion....
Chevelle flys his on a 40 LA and does a great job...
Pic uf Chevelle and me taxiing out to fly in formation at Sunday Fly in Show...
Off the subject but today had a maiden flight on my New GP Fokker... Talk about a RUSH... Still haven't come down... Flying it is a little akward because it handles different, but it is sooooo much fun...

You talked me into it
, the .52 magnum 4s is comeing out of the Cub and going into the Eindecker.
It will sound great in this kind of plane. Got the wing together, and the stab is drying on the fuse. You know I have hotter planes but this is going to look cool.
What engine are you putting in the GP Fokker?[8D]

I've had mine for a yr and never had that problem. I know Chevelle made new ones from balsa. and tossed the plastic ones. After hearing this wish I would have saved my old ones off my crash Eindecker, I throw out!
would have given them to you.

I made new tips because I busted one, not because of the sun. Ummm.. hey..maybe...do you think? Maybe it was "Wingtip Failure" that caused me to hit the fence.

Even though one was busted, I made two to keep the balance right.

OK It's just about ready to go. I still have the throttle cable to hook up, and then I will try to fly
. By the way, what did you guys set up for control throws? I eneded up not useing the Mag.52 4s, I just could not pull it from my cub[
]. So I found an old K&B .40 2s I had; was a very reliable engine in my son's old Goldberg Eagle trainer. If I really like the Eindecker, I may spring or trade something for another .524s[8D].

OK Guys here is what happened.[:-]
Maiden flight of the Eindecker this morning, OH YEH! [:-] First I ended up using an OS .46fx, it's a long story. Next I head down the runway funny, the tail wheel is tracking the plane into a right turn. I will compensate, wait , who! OK turn around and make another try at it
. Easy on that rudder, oh my God this thing is sensitive, power on and I'm off. I am into cardiac problems now
. You know how these magazine story's go, a click up and a click right and its flying? Not so for me, neutral stick produced a dive for terra firma, and almost a snap to the right. I am now desperatly trimming, better, better, ok now she is flying. A few more and the Eindecker is hands off stable. [X(]
So it flys around great, rolls are trainer slow, rudder more than I thought it would, elevator almost non-existent. Maybe I am nose heavy. I am balanced a little forward of recomended CG.
Finally time to land, and I remember, someone said in this thread, landing was not pretty. They were right!!! power off approaching, nose is headed for the ground, power back on, wheels touch, plane launches for the clouds, power off, full up elevator, BOINK,BOINK,BOINK. She's down in one piece. GOD I love realxing and flying my models
.
Anyway plane looks cool, fly.s good, is very trainer like and a little mushy on the controls. Overall I like it. Need to fix tail wheel for tracking straight down the runway, and move the CG back, hope this will help the landing's. I am definatly going to have to get a small four stroker, this plane cry's for it.[8D]

I'll bet that if you move that CG back to where it is suppose to be your landings will be smooth as silk. Certainly for sound a four stroke is the way to go. You don't need more power than the 46 though.
Also, check those wheels. I had one that got pretty wobbly and takeoffs were a bear until I fixed it.

Chevelle
I am tweaking my tail wheel and moving the CG back. I hope that will keep that nose up a little on landing. I was watching your video, and was wondering if you were power off on that landing, or did you keep into the throttle a little? It looked like just before touch down you pulled a little more flair and had good elevator response.
PS: I was going to post a pic of it flying, but batteries were dead in the camera.

I think on that particular landing, I was at idle and in dead calm air. Balanced right, it is a gentle landing plane. I have certainly never had a lack of elevator response even at the slowest speeds where the plane stays in the air. I think the design is quite sound. By the time the elevator gives out, you are on the ground and ready for full up and under taxiing power to keep air over the elevator and the tail down.

OK Chevelle
Alway's nice to have a succesful first flight. Good Job!
I put 1.5 oz. lead on the tail of my Eindecker, and am now right on the CG. Flew better, and landed better but still lacks elevator. I am debating on moveing cg further back or getting more elevator throw. To get more elevator I would have to cut my hinges and give a little more gap
. So what do you guys have for elevator throw? The Eindecker looks great just flying around. Gets lots of comments.

Moveing CG back is mellowing it out. Had some relaxing realistic looking flights[8D]. This is cool, I get tired of all the Extra's and Cubs at the field, even though I have both and think they are great to. Thanks for the help. I will try to put a pic in, even if it doesnt look like Chevelles work[&o]. Eindeckers forever.

Glad to hear that things are working out better. I have my CG right where the instructions say it should be so I'd shoot for that. You are having the same reaction everyone has that gets this plane. For some reason it is just buckets of fun to fly and does a whole bunch of things. It is a great diversion from the screaming flying that seems to be the norm these days. Welcome to the club. Speaking of clubs, there are now FOUR of these flying in our club!

Hi
I just finished my Eindecker and will hopefully get it in the air tomorrow. I have one question though, how much control throw do you use? I could not find anything in manual. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Thorsten

The plane is so gentle that it's not that critical. The rudder you can put as much as you want. The alerons I would put in 1/2 inch up and down. The elavator you can put in 1/2 to 3/4 inch. If you have expo just put about 30% on the alerons just to soften the sticks... or non at all. It's an easy plane to fly... For the first flight I would look at the elavator and put just a couple clicks of down. Most find what looks to be level makes the plane climb. Everyones first flight the plane seems to want to climb. I've got a 100 flights on mine and it's very easy to fly. On landing the first couple times you try it might try to bounce a little because the gear is so stiff. The plane will sloow down to a crawl speed and when it does you will need the elevator to hold it steady and land soft. Don't be nervious it's a great and easy plane to fly... Slow it down in flight and see how the crowd reacts... They won't beleave how slow you can make it fly.... Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the info. I wanted to fly today, but it's too windy, even for a well tempered plane
. Hopefully I'll have more luck tomorrow, I'll let you know how it went.

Finally got the Eindecker in the air! I have to say I'm impressed, it is a very nice model and it flys very scale like. The rudder is extremely sensitive and my first take was kinda scary, but with a little back stick pressure the take off is simple and straight forward. Landings are nice and slow. I'm on the low end of the power scale (flying at 4500ft elevation) with a tower hobbies 46, but it is plenty strong enough to take off in 20ft or so. In the air I have enough power to do what a real Eindecker could, so overall a good match. Although the sound of small 4 stroke is tempting
. The control throw you mentioned worked very well, thanks again.
A very enjoyable plane
