I was wondering if someone could give me some hints how to make the gap(between the wing halves & joiner piece w/attennas) disappear.
I am not sure exactly what went wrong; you can stick a piece a paper in the gap...
sand the halfs? hold the wing while it dries together?
thanks

I am building the CMP Cessna 182 Skylane 50 size using the OS FS-56a engine to power it. Is there a left side Thrust Angle I should have in it? The plans show a 2 degree down angle but should there be a left angle to compensate for the prop torque? The Du-Bro vibration reducing motor mount has a 3 degree angle built into it. I have it mounted on it side so that gives me the 3 degree side angle but if I should not have it in there I need to know.

Hello all,
First I'm really glad to see the excitement about this plane, I bough mine recently and I can't wait to assemble it.
I have a couple of question and hope you can help me cause I'm kinda new.
I bought the 2 strokes evolution .52 engine for this plane, that engine should work ok in it, right? And according to the evolution manual an 11x6" propeller is a good size.
I also bought the DX7 with the DS821 and I've been reading that those servos are no good for big size airplanes. This 182 does not fall in that category right? So for this one those servos should be ok.
Thanks and wish you all good flight

Hi FAV. I also went with the DX7 and used 8 DS821 servos. I used them because they have plenty of tork for the 50 size (77oz/in @ 4.8v or 88oz/in @ 6.v). I would not use them in a 1/4 scale but they will have plenty for the 52 size. I went with the OS FS56-a 4-Stroke. The 52 2-stroke has more power but the 4-stroke develops more tork. The 52 should be plenty. The DX7 is the first Computerized radio I have tried and the OS FS56-a is the first 4-stroke for me too. I almost have it completed. I need to cutoff the left aileron and flap because they were warped and thought i could straighten them out when I epoxied them in place but it did not work so I have to put in the new ones that John at Nitro sent me. He did right by me. I also went with better hardware. I put in the Robart 654 nose gear and 2-3/4" Dubro Lite wheels. I used the metal clevses and push-pull golden rods for the rudder with 3/4" sullivan steel control horns and 1/8" Robart point hinges. It may be over kill but I would rather be safe then smashed-up. Let me know if I can help. Dave.

What I did to get rid of the gaps, (After using epoxy to glue them together permanently) was cover the gaps using automotive pin striping...
No more gape and gives it a nice finish !

Thanks DSTIEBS for the info and the tips.
You said you use 8 servos. Where did you use the extra one? Did you put 2 in the elevator.
Thanks again

Hi to all !!
I started to build mine to that i bought last year, but mine have a OS 55AX with a Slimline Pitts Muffler that give me some headaches with the front landing gear direction arm, that i think is fixed.
I put lights on it with high intensity LED that i bought from a local electronic store, i attached to every LED a 800ohms resistor so i can put any voltage power on it without burning them.
The only problem that i have with both, the kit and the spare fuselage that i have is that they came with some minor cracks due to shipping handling, i'm working now to fix theone that i'm preparing to fly, hopefully soon.
Is there anybody that put the engine that i'm putiing, so can tell me how did it go?.

Hi Everyone. Sorry for not posting more often.
For the past few months I have been flying the CMP quite often. Finally got the hang of takeoffs and landings. Sure is different from my other planes. The 55AX is a great engine and has plenty of power for this plane. I had to take off the pitts muffler as I couldn't keep it tight. I put on the original OS muffler and haven't had any trouble with that since.
The original front wheel strut is junk. I bent it on my first landing and replaced it with a great planes made one and haven't bent it yet...
I have 36 flights on it now and have had very little trouble. Some of the factory hinges have broken and I ended up replacing all of them with robart hinges.
Can't wait to get it back in the air. Flies sweet!

Hi, did you have the same engine as mine, OS 55AX?, if yes, how did you put the original muffler wothout cutting the cowling?.

Hi all
Great thread. Just got mine delieverd a few days ago and happily assembling her.
I am also at the what engine/muffler stage, I am still undecided wether I will mount my OS 46AX or an OS 55AX in there. Did a rough fit but it does seem like you have to cut the cowl to get the muffler to fit. So, shopping around for a pitts muffler.

Hi Marcel.
I hope to see pictures of your progress, some people told me that the 46AX is pplenty of a motor for that plane. In mine i put the 55AX because iwas the one i had. But i suggest that you try the 46 first in order to avoid cutting the hole for the top of the cylinder on the 55AX as i hope to show you in the pictures of mine. I Put a Slimline Pitts Muffler, but since i'm using the Robart 654 Robo Strut, the control arm of this was knocking in one of the exhaust muffler, that i have to cut to have plenty of movement in the nose gear. Also the muffler that comes with the 55AX, if you decided to use it, you have cut the cowl because the part firts part will not fit inside the cowling.

So I am trying to find out for sure if the OS 46 is going to be enough power for this Cessna? Any thoughts, etc would be helpful.

Well I just ordered mine from Niroplanes. Should be here this week. I was told they have a very limited stock and once they are gone, they are gone
I will be putting either a Magnum .46 or a Magnum 70 in the nose. leaning towards the 70 for the weight and soound. It will be a while before I can put this beauty together, have a couple of projects in front of it.

Well she is a beauty. Got her tonight. So much plane for so little. Yes I will be replacing some to most of the hardware. Yet it still cost so much less then a kit. Have a few things to finish before I start this one. A few things to get, 70fs, servos, Rx, misc hardware. Can not wait to start.

Well I could not wait. I am starting it. I have the right wing panel done and the center section. I have to mount the servos in the left wing panel and I will be done with the wing until I get to the point of mounting it the the fuse and the struts.
Looking at a replacement nose gear. I do not think I will spend the 50 plus on the robostrut. May just fit and bend a spring type up to fit.
I am going to use my new in box Magnum 46. I had the servos on hand. I am going to order a light set. It looks just to cool with the flashing lights and the bright landing lights.

Hi everyone, Sorry for not participating for awhile.
Here are my suggestions for building on of these. From experience now as I crashed mine several times learning to fly this plane. I was used to trainers and "non-scale" planes. this was my first scale one.
Don't use the factory nose gear - It's not really spring steel, but rather a twisted "bad steel" piece. I tried the robart and one bad landing broke my firewall out. I finally tried the Great Planes nose gear setup - Same size as the original piece, and it works great. I can bounce all the way down the runway and the nose gear will still be straight.
Might as well buy the Aluminum C182 main gear from Tower hobbies. The original Carbon fiber gear will crack at the bends if one landing is not perfect. I replaced mine with the aluminum and put clips just above the wheels on both sides. I stretch rubber bands (about 4 to 6) across these clips to obtain the proper Attitude of the plane while on the ground. This also allows the gear to be much more forgiving when your landings are not perfect.
Might as well use the robart hinges in place of the cheap factory ones to begin with. Twice now I've had to land my plane with an elevator "dangling" from the control rod. The hinges broke, they didn't pull out of the glue. I'm waiting on two more hinges now to replace the last of the factory ones.
And finally the engine. I originally started with an OS .46 . Yeah, you can fly with it but it's definitely not over-powered. I swapped to the os .55 as it fit almost in the exact same area as the .46. Significantly more power and very noticeable response in the plane..
Finally, I learned the hard way how to take off with this plane. I would "ease into" the throttle at takeoff and try to lift off too soon. This plane does not forgive you for this! It will and has crashed because of this. I spent lot's of time and frustration learning the proper way to takeoff. Here's the secret... "fly it like you stole it on takeoff".. An old pilot told me that after watching me crash several times and I was preparing my newly re-built plane for another crash...err..takeoff. He said to me "Give it full throttle, then worry about keeping it on the runway till it has enough airspeed to fly". Then take off and adjust things after it's airborne. Well, that's what it took. I have been flying successfully every since.
I love this plane and have about 75 flights with it now. The .55 is working perfectly and the forgiving landing gear has offered me the opportunity to learn to land it properly. I might buy another one and build it for show this time now that I learned to fly it.
Hope this helps someone else avoid some of the mistakes I made.

Mine is ready for the engine. I was going to put in a Magnum .46 but it needs a lot more nose weight. So I am waiting to get a 70 4s for it.
A trainer it is NOT. It needs to be FLOWN. I have read the thread here and on RCG. If you are used to flying higher wing loaded planes, it is not much of a problem.

Yeah, I had to add a lot of nose weight including a weighted spinner. One more reason the nose gear behaves the way it does. A lot of the weight of the plane ends up North of the CG.

Hi guys.
Here is mine. Finished her over the weekend. My my does she need a lot of noseweight with an OS46AX ....
Also wanted to put a pitts muffler in, been looking for one everywhere and just could not find one. Found a V-MAX pitts puffler but even with that had to do some serious cowl cutting so I opted for the standar muffler. Will keep on hunting for a Bison pitts muffler and then get a new cowl.
Anyway, here are a few pictures of mine.

Looks Great! When is your first flight?
I put a Bison Pitts muffler on mine at first. I had a lot of trouble keeping it tight. Even with Lock tight the screws would come loose. I ended up putting the factory muffler back on. for some reason the factory muffler stays tight and the pitts does not??
I flew again 4 times yesterday. My I took the wings off I noticed a panel that the gas tank rubber band is pulling out. Looks like the glue didn't hold. I need to have a look at that before I fly next time. It's time for my "annual" anyway.
Send pics of your flight.

Will only be able to fly her this coming weekend. But I will post some pictures of her maiden. This is my first scale plane. So it should be fun.
Locktite normally does not work well on mufflers. The muffler gets hot and the locktite melts so it's pointless. What helps is tightning the muffler bolts, then fly the plane and then tighten the bolts again while the engine is hot right after a flight. If that does not work I usually use a locknut on the bolts. Then it really stays on.
