My Cessna just got here. The low life UPS driver had the damaged side of the box turned away so I couldn't see it. By the time I got it inside and noticed the gaping hole he was long gone. My heart was sunk as I opened the box. That soon turned to elation as I noticed the damage was in a void area and nothing was destroyed!
As I pulled the parts out I wanted to kick myself for not ordering two or three. One for electric, one for glow and one for display. It's absolutely gorgeous! I have tons of other projects so I'll be taking my time on this one so it is just right when completed. I'm absolutely stunned with the appearance of this plane! [sm=what_smile.gif]

Tracon,
Did you weigh your plane before the motor and battery installation? I've weighed most of the kit as shipped and it's right around 4.5 pounds. Motor/esc/radio gear should add another 1.5 pounds. I'm not criticizing your power package, in fact I love to overpower everything too. It's just that for this plane I'm trying to keep costs down. I'm trying to put something together based on your 9.9 pound weight and for the cost involved it's just not going to happen. I need to keep the weight down so I can use some of the stuff that I already have. $250.00 for batteries, $200.00 for a charger for that battery, yet another motor and ESC.......Too much to spend on a $100.00 plane. I guess what I need to ask is this...Do you think it would have flown well on a lesser/lighter motor/battery combo than what you used?
Thanks!
Joe

Tracon,
How do you install battery? Where you able to cut a hatch, or do you have to remove the wing each time you change battery? If you cut a hatch can I see a picture somewhere?
Thanks,
Geefish

To anyone with the Cessna 182 52. size.
How do you put the battery in? There has to be a better way than taking the wing off everytime.
Any help appreciated.

Though I haven't done it yet I plan to add a few cooling air exit holes at the lower bottom of the fuse. Will also need to bore some holes in the firewall for battery cooling airflow. I'll wait until the motor gets here and I have mounting finalized before I cut those holes.
I got my Robart nose gear yesterday. What an incredible piece! I've been doing some work to the nose wheel pant to make it fit the Robart gear. I still have a bit of work to do on it. Monday I'll pick up the spacers I need to make it fit just right.

Just an FYI to everybody
DO NOT USE THE INCLUDED "hinge point/control arm" it is junk!
DO NOT USE THE INCLUDED "hinge points" at all J-U-N-K
I lost a extremely well built 182 to hinge failure after figuring that they were O.K.
Put alot of time and effort into self contained anti-collision lights, single point
DB-9 connector for flaps and aeileron control and on and on.
Watched her go into a tree after shedding the right aeileron in level flight.
Found each hinge point had sheared off at the pivot, points still epoxied into the wing and
aeileron.
I have a fuselage that hasn't been flown if anyone wants it cheap.
No Mo China Mo fo me

Oh tromb that sucks! Sorry to hear it. I have the Robart hinges on the way. I don't have the Robart "horny hinges" though. Maybe I should try to dig up some of them too. I had planned to use the horned hinges from the kit. Sounds like that's a bad idea.

I looked & looked & looked at them, liked the idea of horn/hinge however.
Thought some more, and finally just went with them. Dried over night and as I was testing them the following am,
at least one broke at the pivot....heavy sigh
.... I KNEW better but....[&o]Robart's on the way, might still use the horned hinge, as they sit well inside the flight surface & even if the pivot pin breaks, its on the udder' side,
& will still allow control and the other ROBART's will hold it.

Right..they look O.K. but are very brittle. I used them and lost the plane.
There is just enough meat to take a Robart hinge point and used them for the rudder.
I went with the stock on everything else and paid the price.
Wild_CCR ... DO NOT RISK YOUR PLANE TO THAT COMBO
HINGE?CONTROL ARM!!!
It will fail and no control=crash
An easier way and safer way would be to use 6-32 bolts and
pieces like torque rod clevis attachments.
Not as pretty but safer

Your right,
after thiking about it a little, I'd have to break the combo hinges to remove the surfaces anyway.
May as well go sullivan golden rod while I'm at it also & lose that wierd/cheap & unsupported rod system too.
Add a brace or two, and maybe go wire pull/pull on the rud, but it really doesnt need that, but easy to set up, as the
fuse has exits on both sides already in place and looks like a nice run directly to the servo, but have to double check that.
Too bad, my whole idea on this one was a reasonably priced, quick assembly and be off flying in a few days, not another project.
Although, it won't cost much, thats not the issue.....
Lesson learned! from now on, only H9 for the quick build and fly em a/c.
They really should concentrate on the actual a/c, improve the fit a lttle here and there and market it with out the hrdwr.
Perhaps change their "target" customers, and aim a little further up the ladder & add quality hrdwr.
Would still be a good deal even if the cost rose greatly.
I could imagine the savings in customer support, would negate the rise in cost
The basic attention to detail, paint & finish are truely well done!

I have the Robart hinge points on the way but can't find the Robart "Horny Hinges" anywhere. They aren't even on the Robart site anymore. I wonder if they were problematic.

I honestly don't ever remember seeing them before, anywhere. The ones that came with the cmp where the 1st of these type I have ever seen.
Could be wrong though. If Robart did make at one time, problems or no demand, would have made them dodo bird.
