What did some of you do to fuel the plane up with cowling on. Iam running a Saito 82. A fuel valve mounted on cowling or run a third line from tank to fuel. I am leaning towards the fueler valve on cowling. I changed the tank to a 12oz dubro as well. I took it up yesterday twice but motor quit on me both times, deadsticked fine. Hopefully the stock tank was the problem....

Hello,
I am going to purchase this beautiful bird. Plan to start off with a .46 AX for power.
2 questions... 1. Do you think that standard servos all around w/ a 6v battery is enough with a .46?
2. What servo extenions did you need?
Thanks, Tyler

I've got Futaba S3003's in mine (standard). Their cheap, they're strong, and you can beat on 'em. =) The only different servo i have is the one for the engine throttle. And since it's mounted close up to the engine (i.e. lots of vibration) I used a HiTech HS-82MG (metal gear) servo to minimize the possibility of failure in the servo - as it is rather important to have a good working throttle servo; you think?
Oh, you'll need 2 12" extensions for the two aileron servos and one for the rudder servo if you mount it in the rear of the plane. I mounted my rudder servo up front so i didn't need the 3rd one.
Happy Flying & Cheers!

I didn't mount a fuel plug on the cowl. I just added a bit of length to the fuel lines and pulled it back on top of the fuel tank. My tank and the fuel line are held in place with Velcro(TM) and I haven't had an issue since. Take a peek at the image...the fuel plug I use is the Great Planes Easy Fueler Valve. Link below:

That flying site looks very nice...and peaceful!
Here are some quick pics I snapped with my phone at our field here in the cornbelt last night.
No decals yet! ;-) OS .81a for power....still trying props....only 7 flights on it so far.
cheers,
George

Here it is all finished. I kind of screwed up cutting the cowl, especially around the muffler but what's done is done. The engine ran great. The CG came out about 1/8'' behind the recommended so I think I will fly it there and see how it goes before making any changes. I didn't weight the plane but it definitely feels light. Hopefully the weather will be good on Saturday for the maiden flight.

Hello guys....
I like this plane but all what I have around is a Saito 100... it seems it is only 2oz heavier than the OS 91-4stroke.... I guess it will too much power and I would reduce the travel in the servo in order to have max throttle at 70% of the carburator (meaning that even if I full throttle, the throttle will be at max 70%)..
Do u guys I would be fine???? would it fit in the cowl????
Please some feedbacks will be appreciated...
Thanks...

This plane looks great.....but...........
Do not EVER fuel your plane from the INSIDE of the fuse.....
NO matter what, you will drip fuel inside it....Fueler comes off while fueling, drips when done fueling, de-fueling......
It will wreck the wood in your plane and perhaps make your foam shrink, and you tank slip and move around....5-8 G's in these planes guys!>...
Mount the GP fueler on the botom of plane.... easy to do and the amount of mess is minamal....
Use larger magnets....and the canopy woos will be a thing of the past...
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXRFG6&P=ML
Just remember, to always use one magnet on the canopy, and one of the fuse (for each side)
I have used just one magnet, and then a washer on the mating surface, and it never holds well at all
keep up the good work....

Roger those fuel concerns
However, I've never had any of the issues you talk about. I've been flying a Piper Cub and a Piper Pawnee 15e (modified with an O.S. .25) with the same type of valve and set up for almost two years (over 40+ flights easy on each) and never had one issue. But I agree, keeping fuel off vital parts of the airframe is key. That's why I always do a thorough flight check each time I hit the flying field.
No frame damage? Check. Bolts and screws tight? Check. CG set? Check. Radio test? Check. etc.
But I'm a little anal that way.....it's part of the fun for me.

wow....I guess I might be considered to be a spazz when it comes to
fueling up my planes....
I have had too many issues with my electric glow/alchol fuel pumps....
They donk work when they should and the battery always goes out at the worste times...
I don't think I have very good luck either with these sorts of things either...

The Piper Pawnee 15e, from E-flight, is the one I modified with the glow. You can see details at the address below (it's my personal site) and surprisingly it's a relatively easy installation! I was even shocked how well the O.S. .25 fit.
. I'll see if i can dig up some pics and post them on this post as well.

</a>Oh, and the O.S. .46 LA will work fine for the Extra. The instruction book calls for exactly that - an O.S. .46. Sweet eh!?

<div>That's why I never bought an electric fuel pump... I see fuel lines blowing off all the time at my field. Instead I'll stick to hand pumping.

I think I could see that one comming

Didn't you also do a e-flite pitts conversioin to glow??

I've entertained the electric fuel pumps for a while, however, when your tank is no larger then 12 oz. a quick 30 turns on the hand crank doesn't take much. Once I get into larger scale, then we'll be talking auto-fueling. LOL! As for the E-flight Pitts I haven't converted that bird. But I can say that most E-flight kits are very well built and can easily be converted to glows (when you start approaching the sizes of 15+ motor sizes based on their specs).

It just happened to be simplistic......When I electric Glow pumps burn out, I will get manual ones!!!
