I've flown this trainer before. It doesn't have any bad habits as far as a trainer by goes and you as should be fine training with it. The only concern I would have is that when I looked on their website they are showing that this plane as discontinued. If you already have your hands on one then you'll probably be ok. But if not, you , might want to look at something from Tower or Horizon<div>

I beleve what you are talking about is in reality one of the two clones of the of Sig Senior Kaydet that possibly has even been produced in the same factory as the other clone the Nitro planes version and the earliar arfs from Sig.
The Nitro planes version of the airpane has shown up in four identifiable version that seems to have deteriorated from container load to container load.
The latest arf version from Sig I have not seen yet but hoping it is on track. The Senior Frontier clone from World models I have not had a chance to see so cannot comment on its quality but it is a Senior and there is no better trainer as well as argualbly the most succesful RC trainer ever.

So true, John. They are probably the best trainer around.
I flew one for the first time, at a club meet-and-greet where we had a club "open house". It was slow and deliberate and a joy to fly. We had several new people on the buddy box with an instructor. Every new person - meaning someone that had never flown RC before, successfully flew it with the instructor.
As usual, it started out somewhat clumsy, but the new students got the hang of it pretty quickly and managed to enjoy the flight time.

The only concern I would have is that it might be too good. Someone with a buddy box and some help from their instructor could get by with a sportier trainer for more advanced training later. That being said you can't beat a Kadett or its clone for basic training.

The trouble with doing that EC is using an airplane that is inappropriate as a trainer even on a buddy cord is in every case the student will end up with holes in their airmanship and it will come back to bite them in butt later.
Yes virtually every newbie who shows up wants to use some completely inappropriate airplanes and sure I have agreed to some of that but also in most cases it takes that student a much longer time to reach a given level of skills than if he had used a normal progression starting with a good trainer.
Now the solution i have been pursueing for some time now is so simple and that means making the the dumpy trainer sexy once agine. Thats mean providing exciting things to do with those traners beyond just circuits (way beyond).
Now I have in the past conducted wingless trainer races just for traners which is very exciting and the fellow get so into it that you would think it was a nascar race.
Last year I ran our first full blown pylon race exclusively for Senior Kaydets or Lt 40's and I just scheduled by popular demand another for march. These are not beginner races and are conducted just like an AMA rulebook Q500 race four at a time and using the same matrix program with the only exception is a very short two pole course at 300 feet. This is the great equalizer as skill becomes the predominate factor not power.
Because of these activities there are something over 25 Kaydets in the club now and were are only around forty members. Even the the most experianced in the club are scrambling to acquire Kaydets.
Kaydets are also certainly the most kit bashed models ever, my four engine Quad Kaydet is only a mild example. I am scrambling to put two more together as we speak. One of those I will use in my atttempt late summer to fly across 26 miles of open ocean to Avelon bay, Catalina island.
So the solution is to make those dumpy trainers SEXY Yup its possible.

John, put floats on that one going to Catalina Island! Just in case...You know this sounds interesting, tell us more how your going to do this. I assume your going to use a chase boat, what is your power going to be 4 stroke glo or electric? How many girls in the boat, will they be wearing bikinis, etc.

Thanks larry it will have a big float and power will be an OS 95AX. The Ax's have proven to me to be superior with their amazing low throttling capability with my last long water flight last November here is a link, Much better than the four strokes I used to use on my overland long flights. Here is a link to the last long water flight:

Chuckaluck If that Frontier clone is out of stock you may give some serious thought to the Sig Senior Kaydet ARF as they are back in business with them and the pricing between those two are competive.
Other thing that makes the dumpy trainer once agine sexy are night flying and heck even used one of mine for a paint ball fund raiser for the club and took over 300 rounds before it was unflyable and reqired repairs and a complete recover.

I didn't mean to use an inappropriate airplane. We have had people show up and want to learn on a P51. Now that is inappropriate for sure. I meant more like an LT40 or some of the other 60-65in. trainers. I have had students who thought they were trained(at least straight and level to a landing), and then when I showed them what you could do in the way of basic aerobatics, they see that there is more to a trainer than they thought. That being said, Kadett pylon racing sounds like a blast. Anyway we don't get enough new glow flyers to matter very much either way. Most of them have some sort of little foamie Cub or something and learn on that. Then move on to larger electrics. Call me old fashioned, but I want to hear a motor running.

I am not about to call you old fashioned EC. While I flew my first electric powered airplane a free flight called a TK-1 purchased as a kit from Reginald Dennys in Hollywood in 1959. And kept some sort of hand in ever since but please don,t mistake me for some evangelical electric enthusiast who won't rest untill all the glow flyers are gone
I do not know what it is but our club activities and our flyers are all glow or gas flyers and some dable in electric but first and formost if it does not make the right noise and smells as well as slobber up your ship then it just ain,t the real thing with half the challange gone.
Ok My electrical insullation suit is on
