OK guys, finally some visible progress. I got about 2 hours in today and finished up the horizontal stab and continued with the bottom of the left wing. I'm thinking about adding the same purple trim on the top of the stab that I have on the bottom just to jazz up the tail a bit, but I'll wait to decide until after the rest of the tail is done. I also got the rest of the wing bottom finished up. I'm really happy with the color selection as the purple is almost electric next to the orange. Not so "fishy" with another color in the mix...

I really like those colors... now I'm jealous. Thanks, krossk.

So have you got any more flight time on yours? It's looking like our season here is about done. In spite of unseasonable warmth, it's been quite rainy and windy during the day and with DST inducing darkness at 5PM, the opportunities to fly are scarce.
So I guess I'll have to find solice in the building for a while.

I built a SE last winter and have a question for the expers here. I noticed the tank is way too low and even when raised as much as possible the top of the tank is about even with the carb spray bar. How did you correct this design flaw? The engine will never run right unless this is corrected. The only solution I could figure out was to mount engine on its side and I didn't want to do that so I decided to use the OS 61FX because it runs very well on most tank positions and tank pressures. This thing is a blast to fly with the 61. It handles like a pattern plane and flies very well slow or fast. I use the 13X4 prop and it does a good job of keeping the speed down.

I would have never thought about doing purple & orange together any more than I would have thought about the color scheme that kiswa used, but they both look great! That is gonna be a very sweet looking airplane, you're really doing a nice job. And kiswa, well yours allready came out nice.

Hi Buzz
My SSE is on its fourth gallon of fuel and I have had no problem at all using a Thunder tiger .46 mounted upright and built according to the plans. There are numerous threads on RCU about the SSE but I have seen no mention of anyone having problems with it. Have you used the FX .61 in another plane with no problems or is this a new engine?

I've been away from the forum for a couple of weeks traveling. Your scheme looks really nice[sm=thumbup.gif]
I can tell you're a perfectionist and that there's no rushing you. Keep up the good work.

One thing I'm having a miserable time with is (believe it or not) covering the flat wing-tips. I'm trying to cover the top/bottom surfaces and wrap slightly over the wing-tip by 1/8". That much I can do with no problem, but when I cover the end with another flat piece, the overlap looks like it's a foot higher than the tip surface. How did you guys cover the wing tips - with the tip surface before or after the top/bottom surfaces?
Thanks.

I covered the top and bottom first, wrapping the edges over and onto the tip, and then I covered the tip. I don't think that was the best solution. The tip piece has a tendecy to get loose.

Hi krossk
I did mine the same way. Even tried cutting tiny wedges out of the overlapping film. The seam stills shows. Best you can do as far as I know is to try to keep the overlap as small as possible.
One thing you might try after you cover the tip is to go over the seam with some 1/8" or 1/16" striping tape. Might be more of a pain than it's worth.
I'm wanting an orange and purple plane now !!!
tychoc... Long time no talk !!!
Have you bought or started on your GP Ultimate 40 ? I thought you mentioned starting on or planning to buy one in another thread. I have finished the tail feathers and bottom wing on mine and I'm working on the fuse now. This one is a little tougher than the SSE was.

I covered the tip first. And I didn't overlap at all when I covered the wing; I just trimmed it off at the tip. Hasn't caused any troubles yet.
As to the engine issue... I'm having it. It took a seasoned pro to tune my engine so it wouldn't lean out and die because the tank centerline is lower than the carb by about an inch or so. However, since he tuned my engine to work with the tank position I haven't had any trouble. It does tend to hiccup when I snap roll, but other than that it's running great.
And yeah, I've gotten more air time! Man the SSE is just so much fun to fly. I flew it at the Nov. 5, '05 Fly In our club had and it was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to flying tomorrow weather permitting (as long as you have a jacket, the winds not usually too bad down here).
