Can anyone help me identify this biplane?

I once had a Cub that looked a lot like whatever that plane is??
My Master doesn't look as good as it did then!
It's the 60 size Aeromaster that was sold through Great Planes/Tower and was discontinued about 5 or 6 years ago, maybe more?? These were kit built only planes. As I recall they brought out the giant scale as an ARF for a while??
Very good flying planes but required something a bit bigger then a 60 engine to make them perform really well. I first had the MDS .68 in mine and I hated the plane, it was a real dog. Then I installed the SK .91 and wow!! Talk about a nice little hot rod stunt plane.
The early one had the wings held on with rubber bands and it flew better then the later models?? The later models like mine looked a bit better but I think they weighed more, I'm not real sure about that, I have flown the early ones but never owned one myself.
I still have mine but I ran into something and broke the top wing just a tad and haven't gotten around to doing the repair work.

After 400 flights on the "cub" I decided to throw it in the dumpster. I could have sworn I seen the trash man take it out and put it up front in his truck!
He must have been a member of RCUniverse.
Hope he has fun repairing the wing too!

I've got to agree with Gene, a Great Planes Super Aeromaster. There were three wing configurations you could use and the N struts were optional. My disk that has photos of mine is off line now, but I used the swetp wings both upper and lower. And didn't use the t N sturts which I'm thinking was a big mistake on my part. I've yet to fly it, and I'm tinking about the struts, and a new hinge job on the ailerons before I do.
It's a great looking plane, Heavy, but good looking. Mine comes in about 9 lbs with a Mag 91 for an engine. The kit calls for a 91 or 1.20 four stoke, but for the life of me, I couldn't find a way to put an O.S 1.20 pumper in it. The firewall wasn't big enought fot fit a motor mount on.

Yes there were three wing set ups. The straight wing set up was for a two stroke and the top swept or both top and bottom swept wing was for four strokes??? Don't quote me on that, I'm running off of brain power and my battrey may be a bit low?
Don, I made up my N-struts fron 2-56 wire and used snap ball links on the ends. They held very well and you could adjust them if you changed incidence.
About N-struts and do you need them. I had one friend that flew his without them and had an OS .70FS for power. It was an outstanding slow moving stunt plane and he never had wing problems.
I used the SK .91 two stroke in mine and had my home made struts. Mine was a pretty fast little plane and I tended to really get with it when I was stunting!! I could do flat spins and hold them forever.
Thing was after I landed I would often, very often find the 2-56 wire N-struts broken!!! I'm talking snapped in half.
I wonder what would have happened to the top wing if I didn't have the struts??
I may do the repairs and get mine back up again this winter if nothing else ends up on my bench.
Other thing, it was time to celabrate when I landed without bouncing. I even turned my LG around so they are thrust more forward and it still bounced. The one time I didn't bounce {it's last flight} I was so pleased with myself I wasn't watching the plane on roll out and I ran into the pin board!!
So much for patting myself on the back!!

Yes, that is the old Airomaster. I had 7 of them with all three wing set ups, both straight, bottom straight and top swept, and both swept. All flew extremely well. I had a Fox 60 in all of them, very adequate power and performance. When the Giant Airomaster became available as a kit from Great Plains, I got it and it is in my current hanger powered with Quadra 75CC and it also is an excellent flyer. I also lucked out and just picked up one of the old (20 years plus or so) original kits and have started on it. As you can tell, I love that design.

Rodney, I had my hart set on owning/building the Giant but could never break loose with the 200 beans they wanted for the kit. Then one day I had the money and the kit was no longer produced. Couple years later I found a club member that had the kit for sale, next day I had the money but someone heard us talking and bought the kit after I had left. I never said I was going to buy it or cut a deal so it was a fare rip off.
I'm no longer into Bipes at all but I do regret never owning the Gaint Aeromaster!!
So no one thinks I hate Bipes or something, no, I love Bipes. They are just a pain in the butter to haul. I keep the couple I still have assembled because most of them are a bigger pain to assemble and dis-assemble at the field. I think every RC pilot should have a Bipe or three over time. I just got out of them after a few years.

Having built one of these recently, I'll throw in a couple ideas for who ever buys thta kit (but a t that price??)
I woud re-design the Cabane struts and upper wing mounting method. It is a royal pain as designed.
I would add interplane struts also and design them into the wing vs being an after thought. IEa laminated 1/16" aircraft ply/aluminum rib to attach the sttruts to.
Plan ahead for upper ailerons and build with them in mind.
I was able to use Futaba S3151 digitals for the ailerons,I was just able to burry them in the wing so only the arm was sticking out.
Imade a wedge and put it on the landing gear mount and then used a Dubro heavy duty composite landing gear. I also used a set of U-Can-Do 60 size wheel pants vs the ABS plastic with the kit.
I bought a Waco type cowl for the kit from Fiberglass Speciailites.
Ihad to cut a window in the fuselage side and put in a hardwood frame to allow the switch/charging setup to be installed. The fuselage is 1/2" thick at they point I put the switch.
What I would like to see is this plane modernized. The 1/2" thick balsa sides are a bit of an over kill and the wings, expically the ailerons are a pain to build.
All that carping about building, but I've yet to fly mine. To much time building it Iguess and lack of nerve especialy afterI destroyed my Ruperts Dad on landing yesterday.

Don, I paid more for that kit then I did for any other old kit I bought in years, I gave 50 bucks!!! Bend me over and spank me hard!!! It's a nice little plane but there are a bunch out there that are better flying. It's just not worth anything like that ebay price!!
I didn't have any problems with the cabanes but I would redesign the N-struts more like the Ultimate. I don't take mine apart so once set up it is what it is.
I installed the two servos on the bottom wing and only have the two ailerons but if you had four ailerons it would sure make for a better roll rate. I don't think I would go with four servos but I would use bigger servos and push rods. I like the stock cowl so I built and used it. I also made up the stock LG. It works pretty well but I only flew it from hard packed fields.
It's not a very tough plane to fly, it tracks very well so it's easy to take off and land and a ***** cat in the air.
Send it on down and I will be happy to maiden it and get the trim set up for you!!

I could really use some advice/plans for the struts for this plane. Does anyone have something they can share? I want to be sure I get it right.

Not really, it's a very straight forward build right out of the box. I made my N-struts out of 2-56 control rod with the snap swivels so I could adjust them if I needed to play with the wing incidence. I did have to fiddle with the top wing incidence so it worked out for me. If you don't understand incidence then get with a club member that does and owns a good incidence meter. People will try to walk you through it here on RCU but you really need someone to teach you how to do it sitting right next to you. Then you should have that person with you when you are doing the trim on the plane during flight.
If the incidence is off then the plane will do some little tell tail things in flight and someone in the know will be able to guide you through the trim.
Sounds like a big deal but all of us Bipe pilots have gone through the learning curve and had someone teach us. Just don't ever listen to the peanut gallery at the club/field. They are sitting back there BSing for a reason and for the most part it isn't old age!!

I appreciate all of the responses to the original post. Anyone have an idea on where I can find a new canopy for the Super Aeromaster?
