I may take you up on it Ken, we'll see how things go.
A couple questions though: She (OS70 FS 1) is turning 10K easily with the 12x6 3 blade and seems rich. Do I need more prop?
I can't seem to get her to idle nice and low, it is cold and really misty so the weather isn't ideal. Could that be it? It idled well on the test stand.

It's not that far to drive, and I definitely don't mind!!!! I wouldn't have offered if I didn't want to do the drive!!!! [img][/img]
The offer is there if you need it, just let me know
Ken

I appreciate the offer Ken, I wouldn't want you to have to drive this far just to maiden a plane for me, or me drive that far either.
I think I can handle it, its just that when it comes to mechanical things that cost me money I'm a real pessimist. If it does fly like a low wing sport plane then I should be fine. I'm in no hurry as I do have to get the cg fixed and do some actual runtime of the engine on the plane.

glad to see its in one piece again, how did the covering repairs turn out?
i think ken is looking for a excuse to tell the boss (wife) that he needs to take a day off, while hes in ok city he will buy a few planes to save on ''gas money''

heck might as well take up the offer, to get ken out of the house and at the field (and hobby shop), and if he smashes your plane you can tease him on the forums

.
if i was you i wouldnt fly the plane if you arnt comfortable with the engine, if it will hold a high idle i wouldnt worry about it (can always kill the engine on landing), but if it wont idle at all dont take the chance.

I played with it some more and got it to idle pretty well. I think it was the LSN just needing some love.
Gonna maiden it at my airfield, Baxter Field at Draper Lake. This weekend the weather is supposed to be cold and wet so it will have to atleast wait one more week. If anybody wants to come just pm me. I'll get in touch with you Ken.

looks good Brett!!!, how longs your runway? I think you'll do fine, I love to maiden a new plane. when I maidened my P-51 I had Parkinson's so bad my knees were knocking. once I had it up in the air I calmed down a bit, the problem at my field is how short the runway is (300ft of pavement) and the pony uses every bit of it plus a few to shut down. I don't have flaps though so that should help quite a bit. I now have 11 successful flights on it out of 12, the last flight was good but when she ran out of runway a weed jumped right in front of the plane and damaged one of the mains. but she'll fly again, just not at that field.
god speed and good luck!!!

A plane in pieces that provided 5 minutes of fun is worth more than a plane in the rafters IMHO. Fly it! If you don't feel 100% get a smaller cheaper plane to boost you confidence! If it makes you feel any better I blindly put up a T-28D after 20 flights on the sim with no expo or DR on the 6i and it went just fine!
Edit cause I can't speel

I understand the first flight fears!!!
I recently maiden'd this one...
6 year project for build and paint (I don't have a lot of free time to devote to building), every gremlin you could have imagined during the build and set up, 13K invested, and me more nervous than a hooker in church!
After seeing it in the air though, it was worth it

It's not so much my confidence level as it is just my personality. I have maidened every plane I own except my trainer. EDF jet, pz corsair, extra 300 (only my second plane), Skyraider mach 2, Seagull super decathlon, spad 13, corospad, and now this one I'll prolly hand over to ken.

LGM makes me look like a weenie!

Nah, just means you're a modeler, you spend time and effort on an airplane you love, if you aren't nervous then there's not much thrill and the hobby is lacking something
Good luck on the maiden, just remember to take off smooth and gain altitude, then reduce the throttle and spend more time learning how it flies slow than how it flies fast. Have fun!

I have a pt 60 that I flew around a dozen flights before I had no time for the hobby. Now that I am back into it, I am very nervous about flying again. I recovered the model and removed and replaced the flight controls. I am now out of excuses....time to go fly. Sunday is the day, weather permitting. Good luck on your maiden!!

GO FOR IT !! The Wright brothers didn't mess around and they had more than an arf on the line. This was my TF. P-47 kit built, glassed, custom painted, the works flew like a champ right out of the gate.Notice I said "WAS" my P-47. Got shot down 2 weeks after the maiden by some mystery signal. I have another one in the box for this winter, trust your skills and go for it. Here are some before and after shots not to scare you or anything, take along a buddy and let them trim it for you while you keep your eyes on the sky. It's a great lookin plane!

its just a ARF if it crashes you can get another in a few days, if you built it as a kit then sure get nervous, my Gizmo is more squirly than my warbird ARF's,
Utube is full of vids of this plane its a easy flyer I was surprised how light mine was when I got it out of the box, I know why it will fly with a 46 2stroke, mines getting a OS 61 though
should be a screamer

I think the best advise I have heard here is to make sure your engine is running very good especially slow, and to learn how the aircraft handles slow. Most pilots I see land too fast. Especially their warbirds. I just flew an electric version of this aircraft a couple of weeks ago. It ran out of juice very quick so I had to deadstick it down. It handled very well and was very easy to fly.
To throw in my own personal opinion, I would lose the 3 bladed prop. You will get much better performance with the right 2 blade. It may look more scale sitting in the pits, but you cannot tell the difference when the engine is running. There is a reason we use static scale props in competition and then switch them for flight.

Hey Brett,
At 10,000 rpm and 6" of pitch your prop air speed will be 56.8 MPH. With drag this will
give you about 48 MPH level flight, your stall speed might be around 25 mph or maybe
more so let it build up plenty of speed before you yank it off the ground. Also get your
self a small fish scale and tie it down and measure the max thrust. Weigh the plane with
a full tank and see what the thrust to weight ratio is. This will tell you what to expect
when you pull it off the ground. This will also give you time to get the OS running perfectly.
If it is not, get it right first. I have seen many first flights end with a dead stick.
You probably know all this but thought I would try to help. Keep us posted! and good luck, Tim
