My wife and I are only paying 1.59% as merchants.  Of course there is also a statement fee, a transaction fee, and who knows what all.  What we do is we have a chart.  A card transaction of X amount has a specific amount added to it to cover the fee's.  Not a single customer has complained.

I have yet to build a model that costs the same as or less than an ARF. Been building since about 1976. They didn't have ARF's then but recently I started buying them because I crash a lot and want to have something to fly while I am building. Just my 2 cents worth.

Great, I would keep that merchant bank unless their other fees are dramatic. Your method is pretty good; it would spur me to pay cash or check. But the legality of it my be questionable if challenged. Some small shops here tried a similar method but that came to a sudden stop pretty quickly, I don't have a definite reason as to why though. Retirement tends to narrow reliable contacts considerably.

Sorry, but I'm a slimy ARF flyer. I don't have the skill, ability, or patience to try a kit build. Though one day I will try a kit. But then again, I compared the cost of a Sig kit to one of their ARF's and by the time I purchased everything for the kit the kit lost. But I still would not have the quality of a good kit build, of course with my abilities I not sure a kit build of mine would be a good kit build. But still yet I will build a kit just for the experience, hopefully with the help of someone with experience and be successful I hope.

P.S. I'm just full of self confidence instilled by my parents†You can't do that" was one of their qoutes. I'll do it or die trying.

Chunkyplanker,
One thing to add to that. Part of the agreement we have to make when we take credit/debit cards is that we can't advertise a different price for card purchases. They do this so that we can't advertise a ''Cash Discount'' for those that pay for their purchases with cash. This is done so that consumers aren't aware that the merchant is paying more for taking the cards. So all merchants have to build that fee into EVERYTHING they sell, regardless of how the payment is made. Like I said, I pay 4% on my Merchant's account. So if that fee wasn't there I could reduce the cost of EVERYTHING in my shop by 4% and sell it cheaper. This is another reason why I use cash whenever possible when I buy things. It keeps that money in the business owner's hands and not into the hands of the card companies.

Ken</p>

That sounds about right; they don't want the whole country knowing their collecting from all directions kind of like insurance companies. But that's a whole new can of worms, maybe with even darker deceit.
Roger

P.S. its chunkyplunker, chunkyplanker sounds should I say perverted.

I've been called worse and probably still am being called worse by some, but I believe the others are not teachable.

Ok, soap box warning here!!!!!

My wife and I cut up our credit cards 12 years ago, and now we don't buy anything that we don't pay cash for (cars and house excepted of course). I can't count how many times since I've been in the hobby I've seen guys put a high dollar airplane on their credit card just to get it quickly. Then they turn around and crash that plane. The plane is gone, but the payments and interest are still there!!!! Plus, who wants to increase the cost of a plane/radio/etc... by adding interest on it?? To me it's just not worth that just to get it quicker.

My advice here is to simply save your money until you can afford it, then buy it when you have the cash put together. I understand why Tower does this service (making more money) but I disagree with them offering it and I wish they didn't do it. It's this same attitude that is partly to blame for the financial problems in the country right now. Convincing people that they can buy more of an item than they can actually afford. IMHO, if you don't have the cash in hand then you shouldn't be buying it!

Ok, I'll put my soap box away for awhile.

Tower hobbies easy pay, not for me. It was pounded in to my head at a young age to save your money[8D] I always ask myself, do i really need it? most of the time this dampens the urge to spend, and its like you always hear, "Good things come to those who wait".

Its the smarter way,and becoming more and more unusual these days. Imagine if a whole country thought this way?

As my non-white Pastor says, "Folks human slavery is alive in well in the United States. Instead of masta of the plantation [slaving away in the fields], you have masta card [slaving away to pay the credit card bills.]"

Im young and had to learn the hard way.... I spend well over a grand a year in interest ... just think thats like a free balsa kit (with guts) or two a year........ Or a free HDTV every few years... or heck even an extra car every decade..... So now Im ernestly trying to get my freedom back from the Masta.

I personally think Tower Hobbies Easy Pay is a fantastic idea. I have used it twice now. Since I use my debit/visa bank card, I dont have to worry about paying any CC fees or interest. It allows me to grab some things I normally couldn't afford right away. And when I combine this with my free shipping and the very nice 20% off coupon codes I get products at great prices. By far and away the cheapest I have seen for the products they carry.

Im just curious how Tower protects themselves by doing this? They say they "reserve the right" to do a credit check or demand payment in full(if you miss or skip a payment), but Im not sure how without a SS # or other personal info.

My only question is why are some products "Easy Pay" eligible, while others aren't? It sure isn't based off of price.

Regardless, its a great way for them to generate business, and a great way for customers to get something they may not have all the cash for upfront. Wish there were more companies like Tower. Great prices, have always had top notch customer service, and I am 100% into supporting a company that is OWNED by all the employees directly. Never have to deal with someone who really doesn't care getting paid $7.25 an hour. This is the type of business model people should be supporting. Everybody who works for that company makes a good wage through salary and profit sharing. Wish there were more companies like that in the US.
