Is something like this likely to happen if the pitch isn't correct on one blade?
The TX has never been dropped and when I hold the bird by the tail boom and throttle up everything seems fine until I give it rear elevator and it wants to drop drastically.

Don't know but have you check the tracking? I just fire up mine with weight on the skids and watched the head and the thought I had is, " is everything smooth or does something jump when you pull back on the stick? Also how high are you off of the ground when you feel it suddenly drop? Could it be ground effect and reaction to it going tail in? I've noticed that when I come to a stop from FF that I have a tendencey to over stop and go backward and drop a bit. If you have a way of strapping your Blade down, not just holding it, and getting a video of the head movement and servos someone will get this

James sounds like you are getting pitch command mixing (channel three) with elevator (channel two). It is signifigant that the condition is worse pulling the right stick back which, if it were the left stick would...slam the heli into ground.

This is UNSAFE but I would hold the bird's skids with one hand and throttle up the Tx with the other; give a little pitch input, see what happens. This is more of a "real life" test since I could lift the heli a bit while running it up to unload the rotor head. See if I feel the pitch change when I should only feel cyclic. You didn't get this idea from me.

Actually, I recommend not holding it by the skids, but rather the flat spot where the boom meets the frame. That is a much more secure place to hold the heli. The skids can slide out of the frame sometimes. You wouldn't want this to happen while doing a run-up test!
This is how I check blade tracking. I hold the heli with my right hand by the flat spot where the boom meets the frame, then I pour on the gas with my left hand. I can then move the heli around until I can find a spot where I can see the marks on the tips of the blades clearly.
Just make sure you stay focused on what you are doing, and don't let the rotor hit your arm or something. Don't try to do it with a crying baby and/or barking dog under-foot or something

James, I had something similar to that. I replaced mainshaft, spindle, flybar, tail feathersand shaft . Oh ye
T.R bearings, mainshaft bearings, upper rotor head assembly. I took it out on my test bench and spooled it
up and it still shaked, rattled and is/was grounded. I finally broke out a new set of blades (Flats). I
balanced them and tracked them yes, all is well. Then there was the tx.

Hey guys I use an old wooden bar stool seat and 2 Cup hooks. (openings facing inboard) I place it on something
level and taller. I then power up as I would to fly. I stand back a few feet and track
the blades. I USE eye protection Too!!

Bob, I just did the same thing, just about replaced all the same parts, just to find out it was the blades. I now have a brand new set of blades. She runs smooth as ever until you touch the elevator and it decends hard and then goes back up. I just can't for the life of me figure out the problem. I even get it up enough to get it out of ground effect, but, that just makes the hard bounce hit the ground harder. Matter of fact, with the new main rotor shaft, all the other parts slid on it alot nicer than the older one, so one would assume that it would work alot better. I am just lost in the sauce I guess.

I'm not expert but it sounds like there's some binding when any movement is made to the rotor's orientation. That being the case, check the swashplate for any binding or other issues since it's the primary part involved in that process, then work your way up. I'd disconnect the servos and make sure all the movements are smooth and easy, including pitch changes. It's probably something tiny and minor, but it doesn't take much with this things I'm finding.

James, unplug both motors - plug it in and after it arms, slowly move the sticks - watch the swash carefully and see if it reacts properly. Should go up and down smoothly as you move the throttle and right, left, forward and back accordingly. In forward the front servo should go down as the rear two go up and the opposite in reverse. If all is going properly now move everything quickly and see if still works. I have a feeling you have a broken servo gear. Of course it might only slip under load, but it's worth a shot. Don't know if that would cause the shakes or not, but that's possible too.

I just built up a bcp with separates to use my dx6 with. Bought a crashed blade with a bad 4 in 1 for $60. I mounted a e-flite 2 in 1 and a gws pg-03 gyro on it along with my dx6's reciever. I'm having trouble setting it up but I know I'll get it soon enough. Anybody running this particular load out on their blade?

Like zoo said, check the servos and gears. When I had a similar problem, I could not spool
it up fast enough to track the blades. The thing was shacking too badly. Did the new blades balance??

Zoo, I will check that tonight but I think everything is working properly (and I am no proffessional).
Bob, oh yeah, the new blades made it run smooth as silk. Now I just have to figure out this horrible yo-yo its doing.

When the Sun gets over the Mtn. I'm going to TEST it.
Thanks Joe @ HH

Hello everyone.
I am new here and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jim and I just got a new Blade CP. I have not flown it yet. I have simulator experience but no real heli experience. I have flown planes for years. I am new to the world of RC helis. If anyone has any advice for someone starting out with the Blade CP ( tips on flying or hop ups) I would really like to hear them. I am looking forward to getting to know you guys.
Thanks
JIM

Well youre in for some fun. Ive had the CP for a couple weeks now and am just getting pretty good at hovering tail in. I can go through a battery pack now without smashing my shins or small animals and children. I dont have the website but if you do a search for "Radds school of rotary flight" and follow the program you wont be sorry. Its an awesome site.
Ive flown planes for a while now and learning the heli is something else. But its a ton of fun as well. Even if you dont follow Radds then at least read all the info on his site, it has a lot of info on helis that lots of people dont know.Such as why your heli will drift left when you lift off slowly.
So anyway ,Welcome to the wonderful world of helis.Hope you enjoy as Im sure you will. And when you get frustrated( which you undoubtedly will) just take a break and go at it again later. Its worth sticking with.

Hi Jim, my name is James. The best piece of advice I can give you is to take it slow for awhile no matter what you think you can do and use the training gear, it will save you money in the long run. And if you run into any problems or have any questions, post them here, there probably isn't anything that you'll experience that someone else hasn't. So, with that, good luck, and nice to meet you.

Welcome Jim,
Just take it slow, do the Radds School. It will take you many battery packs. But it is a proven help to get the newbies onboard.
You have to be patient with the heli world, it can be very frustrating at times, but it's a ton of fun.
There is a lot of folks out here that are so willing to help you with your questions and problems..
Best of luck, let us know how your doing down the road,
Dave / Choppersrule

Bob, I have about two on the right with mine. And I talked to Horizon last night. The guy I talked to seems to think my TX is bad or its the 4-in-1 or crystals. They said they will replace it if I can narrow it down.
