Tim,
Where did you order your hxt-900 servo, I'll have to think about that one. My only concern would be if they would fit in my HBK2.
The one site I looked at, was in Hong Kong. Don't have a problem with that, except there shipping charges.
OH, don't forget the video..
J-Michael,
LOL, "What is gonna fly off and kill you." Funny, but not, always take extra precaution when flying a helicopter. I about a half dozen scars on my hands and arms, that says they are not toys. Even the smaller helicopter, the blade tip is spinning about 175 mph. Yikes!
It all happens it a blink of an eye. For sometime, I was pretty gun shy to even fly. That was about a year or so ago, but I'm back at it and much more cautious now.

Love the picture of the Trex600 and the HBK2 for comparison.

Vic,
You dog you, you went and made the plunge on the EXI-450 and all the goodies to go with it.
Good for you Vic, you deserve a break with all the troubles you've had in the past. I'm very happy for you. Just remember to take lots of pictures of the build, even opening the box. The Bob's, love the pictures.

This 450 is gonna be NEW from the ground up....nothing off any other bird, got the servos already on the way....and a DX7 right behind it (LOL). The MX-400 is about done....it's been a good bird, time to move on.

On a serious note gentleman, please take the time to read the following and watch the attached video. I know it's totally off topic, but I felt the need to share this with all of you. It brought tears to my eyes. A dear freind of my sent it to me. Enough said.

What we will do for our children . . . . . .
A son asked his father, "Dad, will you take part in a marathon with
me?" The father who, despite having a heart condition, says "Yes".
They went on to complete the marathon together.
Father and son went on to join other marathons, the father always
saying "Yes" to his son's request of going through the race together.
One day, the son asked his father, 'Dad, let's join the Ironman
together."
To which his father said "Yes" to.
For those who don't know, Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever.
The race encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4 mile ocean swim,
followed by a 112 mile bike ride, and ending with a 26.2 mile
marathon along the coast of the Big Island .
Father and son went on to complete the race together. View this
with music.
PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEO IT PUTS A WHOLE NEW VIEW ON THIS STORY!!
It isn't very long!! It's certainly worth watching.

Cool man new heli and DX7. Let us know how the EXI works out it looks like a reasonably priced alternative to a Trex. I still got my Eclipse 7 and Hitec is working on a 2.4ghz system so I will think about upgrading when it comes out.

OK, neither of the flights that got off the ground are on here. And I am snuffling like I'm on the bowflex
. But here is the video. Feel free to check out the bug vids as well.
I'll try to fly both the bug and the heli tonight.

First stand behind the heli when learning to fly so the directions on the levers are correct to the way your facing. If you stand in front everything is backwards. Make sure you trim it right. As you give power and it starts to move look at which way its moving without moving levers and trim it so it doesn't move. Its normal for it to want to lean toward the antenna side but not really to move that way, trim it. It takes time! you need a bigger piece of cardboard, and watch for wind. Any chance you can do this in a room inside or on a bigger floor like a garage floor maybe. That's falling off the cardboard and hitting your blade. Watch bigger cardboard needed you can break a blade or bend a main shaft or spindle. Just trying to help! Ron

Ok, it seems I need to do some "splainin' to do. Following the vids, attempt 4 last night was driving around and keeping the heli stabile on the ping pong balls. I popped the throttle a touch and the heli sprang into the air, aiming for me, and I dropped it. I did not chop the throttle completely so the landing was nominal. It seems to me that I need to take away one click of tx trim and try again. I was so close with the attempts last night that the wind tonight is truly annoying. I am so close.
Is there a reason to hover a full pack? I would like to get a comfortable hover and then start adding different moves. A piroutte, a move left/right forward backward, all in a very small space. I may try to figure out a way to video my right stick control input on the bug. Unless I want to roll it, my controls are really tight.
Glad you enjoyed the bug vids.

Hover is the main thing you have to learn. If you hover for 2 mins you could probably hover for a full pack but usually not and its the most important thing to learn. Pirouettes are a long way off for now. Hover, Go forward 2 feet (slow) ,go back 2 feet go side to side turn right turn left only 45 degrees and get back to straight. Helli's ARE NOT PLANES. I have been hovering tooo long now than did 2 pirouettes and on the 3rd I inverted into the ground because of pushing the right lever instead of the left NERVES. 50 dollars later I have cra****is and just fly a plane for now. I fly the CX2 through the house, Hover the CP PRO and Blade 400 in the house and outside but it takes time and nerve and a few bucks won't hurt. No way to rush. Hover than forward than back than side than back other side than turn right and back and turn left and back that up 3 feet than down land take off. Take your time! roll around on that cardboard. If it goes left or right trim. Once all trimmed the wind from your blades will cause you to move around until you get it 2-3 feet off the ground but don't bring it up. hover at 1 -2 feet for now. Ron

I hear you Ron. The primary thing to learn on a heli is the hover. Everything else is built around it.
A new stupid question, watching the heli the tail rotor seems to start and stop during run up. Should I worry about this?

It should start to run when you move slight right or left. I think the manual has a test you can do. If that motor goes bad itsn about 10 dollars. Ron

How this thread is moving fast!
Dave, great video. I remember seeing that story on 60 minutes or something. What a great Dad.
Jeff, were the heck are you getting those smilies, there cracking me up! I hear ya on the scary part of heli flying. A friend of mine lost his gyro on a 60 size glow about 10 feet from me. Me and another guy kinda turned our backs a bit and covered our heads. The heli exploded sending the carbon blades 50-75 yards from the crash. We only found one and couldn't find the other. I did the laundry that night, if you know what I mean[X(]
Tim, my first attempts were the same. I had a huge piece of stryo foam that I tried flying off of. It didn't work. Like Ron said, your better off on concrete on asphalt where you can get the heli light on it's skids and let it scoot around a bit. Believe it or not it will give you the feel of the heli even on the ground. I did much better when I took my blade to an open parking lot. Also remember to watch the head/blades when flying. It will tilt before the body of the moves.
Vic, congrats man, you deserve it[8D]
God Bless All!

Dave, I'm not clear on the verb but me thinketh that is a slanglish phrase. Pero no es importante, mi espanol es como un nino. No hable o lee o escrito en muchos anos. Es de colegio y universidad muchos anos ago.
I'll try the street out front later assuming the wind dies down some. Not smooth, but better than grass I suppose.

Tim,
As others mentioned, you need to have the tail of the helicopter facing you. So that left is left, right is right, etc.
I did notice in your video that the blade tracking on your helicopter was right on the money. Excellent! Tail motors on the Blade have a short life span, so stock up and get a few of them. Your heli-pad has something to be desired.
Get a 1/4 inch plywood and make it to suite ya. 3x3 or 4x4 foot. I have a hand hold carrying grip on mine. LMAO..

Hovering is important, it teaches you how to use and control the stick movements. It trains the mind and reflexes to work together. Kinda like driving a car, at first you had to always work at it, know it's just reflexes. You don't even think about it. You just re-act.
Takes time, just be patient. We've all been down the same road, I couldn't tell you how long it was before I felt comfortable with the heli. Close to a year.
Take care and keep us updated,
Dave / Choppersrule
