Today has been ONE R/C day for sure. Earlier, the wind was down, so I flew the Ranger around a bit, and it developed problems by throwing a flybar push rod, and the ainti-rotation bracket broke IN FLIGHT....I landed it safely and replaced the parts, then tested it in the basement...seemed ok to me. Took it outside...more probs and I almost hit a pole in the yard. Took it in and fixed that problem...whatever IT was. Smooth as silk now and functions perfectly but the wind come up...so I was done. I didn't REALLY know what the wind was, but the trees moving good...way up there. I went and bolted the wings on the AeroStar .40, took it out. Started the engine using my NEW 12v starter....wow, that was nice. I spent about 20 minuets adjusting the carb so it would run good (last flown in December). With the engine at idle, I walked it out back to the 5 acer field where the grass is 5ft or better.....hand launch into the wind is the only way. , so I did it. Perfect launch with a great rate of acent, I was impressed.....till I got up where the wind was really blowing HARD. Man....I had to fight it a few times and the wind grabbed it and flipped it up and back on me....wasn't expecting that, but I had altitude to recover, and I did. I flew it around some more doing some loops and aileron rolls (too windy for hammerheads). IT WASNT FUN with that wind knocking me around up there. A few times...the plane flew backwards (1/2 throttle). I flew a few more circles around the field and decided I had enough. Wind was SSW 15 gusts to 18+ at ground level. I took it down to the SE end of the field and started the approach, cutting the throttle. I didn't realize the tree line was between me and the plane. The plane disappeared below the trees, and I pulled back on the elevator, and hit the gas. Well, I'm listening for the CRACK as it hits the tree because it seemed to be an eternity, and I can't hear the engine because of the wind. FINALLY...the plane leaps above the trees, and I corrected for the impending stall, and cut the throttle for the final approach now that I'm clear of the trees. I landed 6 ft away in the TALL grass (arrested landing). The plane was fine...I was glad that was over (LMAO), done for the day.

Hi guys,
Great video Barrrrrrrrrrick.....and my HBK tends to wander a wee bit more than I'd like too. But hovering with the 400 tells me not to overfly the little devil.
With the 400 I've found that rather than give a "positive" stick input, I just give it a nudge and let inertia take care of things.
The 400 has a bit more inertia than the HBK so, yes, setup is the key......I'm still not quite satisfied with the tracking on the HBK yet....it's very close but not quite "perfect".
I set up the heli on the coffee table, spool her up and take a head-on movie where I can isolate a good frame on the computer.
Storms last night....nothing extraordinary but it's kinda blustery right now so I don't know whether I'll get any air time.
Going to attempt to bind the 400 RX to my DX7 this eve....should be interesting.
Getting hungry so I'm away to fix sumpn to eat.

Hey All,
Rick, I hope all goes well with your new T-Rex, no substitute for their stability. Bob's video's are priceless, he's an amazing teacher.
My parts showed up today
First thing, Michael @ Ushobbysupply is awesome[8D] Great customer service!
I decided to upgrade the motor first... I put the T-Rex tail fins on, too. First off: the motor, a Extreme Productions 4000kv brushless. Out of the box.... disappointment[
] One of the wires immediately fell off, soldered but not a good connection. I setup to solder it back together and a second wire fell of[X(] [:@] I fixed both, re-shrink wrapped, and checked the third wire which seemed to be fine. before installing I did a run up and it worked. Installed the 10t align pinion and the tail rotors and went out to fly. It was a bit gusty today but not to bad. The motor is amazingly smooth and WAY more powerful than stock, I'll have to adjust the pitch trim because now it lifts off around 1/4 throttle
I had a slight tail bob which I'll figure out as I go, something's to tight is my guess. At least the stock gyro is a half set up from the Blades 4-in-1. I have the Telebee HH gyro to throw on which I believe will be installed before the next battery pack.
I'm having a darn good time playing with this chopper! It's like a super light T-Rex[8D]
God Bless Y'all,
Jay
BTW, Vic ya gotta wait for the winds to die down with those Aerostars

Hey....it's fun to hover an airplane and fly backwards once in a while...I did both out there last night...LOL. The only reason I had some problems is....I'm a tad rusty with it.

It is pretty neat to get one to "back-up"
The first time one of my best friends came out to watch me fly it was windier than *****. I backed up an Uproar and then set it down like it was on an elevator. He couldn't believe it
Of coarse it only works well when it's not gusting
God Bless Ya Vic,
Jay

Jay...I love flying in 15-18mph winds if it's not gusty. You can really get some awsome looking areobatics. Below is a letter from a guy I did work on his HBKII. He sent me the Ranger fuse I'm using now, and I sent him pics of the finished Ranger:
Vic,
Very nice.... Your a perfectionists and do impeccable work.
I have been flying my helicopter and getting better all the time..... What a difference when things are put together right. Thank you!

Speaking of winds....Wish they would settle down around here for the heli folks ! I just might have to get a few of them planes some time or a bigger heli so I don't lose air time fighting with the wind...lol.. Yesterday, the winds were calm in the evening, so I made the hike to the top of the property where there is a flat spot. When I got there it was dead calm. After I got situated and plugged the batt in, the wind started gusting ! Go figure... Happens everytime ! So to not make the hike a wasted trip, I snapped a few photo's for keepsakes in case of another horrific crash...LMAO...
The heli's front nose has a nice little battle wound on the nose as you see in the pic, it kind of gives it character now...Waxed right over it, and didn't even phase me... The house down the hill is where I'am staying. It's a little guest house towards the back, I'am looking down taking the picture from where I fly from up top.
Hope someone else is getting some flying in, I might have to get on the G4 to satisfy the hunger I suppose...
Jeff

Jay,
Bummer on the 4000kv brushless problem, but you did get it resolved in a timely fashion. Kudos!
Tail bobs: Generally blade grips to tight, or some binding in the head assembly. Not a hard problem to resolve.
After installing the Telebee gyro, you may have to make tail rotor sero adjustments. Always something.
If you are using the stock TX, when adjusting pitch, either in normal mode or idle-up mode, make sure that the top left knob on the TX is at the 12 o'clock position.
So happy you are having a good time with it, I know I love my HBK2.
Hey, where's a picture. LOL

Jay,
Another tip for the HBK2. If you are using the stock TX, move the throttle trim lever up to 1/2 position. If you are lifting off at 1/4 throttle, WAY to much pitch. I like mine about 1/2 plus a little. LOL. They all fly different and each needs it's own SET-UP.

the OLD ONE here, with a quiz :
Question: WHAT's BETTER THAN A T-REX ?
Answer: JUST ANOTHER T-REX and then you have TWOTREX
in fact that will be the header for the programming in the DX-7........I don't know if it will succeed but for the FIRST TIME
am going to try to program my HELI....... I by-passed the assembly again, this time, since the TREX arrived as you see
it, all complete except for the RECEIVER. There is ONE 6100e right here, I am going to hang it on the frame, connect
all the wires, transfer the Prog. from TREXONE into a new Model and hopefully I will wind up with a "basic" operation.
Just be patient with all my "hoooflungdung" and I may even learn to fly, THIS WEEK END......taking the RAPTOR out to
the field, and based on what I did on tank # 3 I may enter Forward Flight, Piros, NoseIn and FLIGHT.
Here is the picture of what just came from N.Carolina..... there are TWO big hefty batteries, brand new, and Extra set of
blades, an extra Canopy (red) and visible in the picture, all in the ALIGN CASE...... The servos are JR285s and the tail is
the JR3400....all were tried, and hovered so it should be CLOSE.
All this for $ 450.00 which I thought was quite reasonable, since I paid more than that for the first one. For $469.00 I could
have gotten the B-400, but since I already have the DX-7 with about 16open models still in it....this deal is MUCHO MEJOR, NO ?
Those two LiPo batteries are brand NEW and look great. Only trouble now I have all kind of connectors mixed up,,,, will have
to invent some kind of adaptor......have DEANS, ZEROs from the other, etc etc.....
Wish me luck........

Very cool Rick, sounds like a steal. I hope all goes well and your doing well!
Dave thanks again for the tips. If someone who wasn't comfortable soldering it would have been a loss, my wife couldn't believe I didn't send it back but that's too much hassle when I knew I could just fix it.
I just got back in from 3 flights at 4 minutes a piece on the HBKII. All is stock except for the following: Extreme Productions 4000kv, 10t align pinion, 400 size super skids, Extreme turnbuckles, ( which you need to use the stock ends, theirs are way too loose!), T-Rex tail rotors, and a carbon rod with a plastic bead on the end to save the tail rotors! I got that one right here on this thread, I love you guys
I beat the living snot out of it[X(]
Zero wind tonight so I went to the park. I was doing full collective high speed FF and full stick movement turns just to see how it would do. I bought this heli to do this, fly it like I stole it.
I'm convinced that this is a mini, cheap T-Rex. I'm not even fully dialed in yet and I did 3 loops and a couple of stall turns. I need to work on the transmitter to get the power and trim setting better. It's quite a kick from normal to idle up.
This chopper rocks
I haven't even put the 43t tail sprocket on or the Telebee gyro and this thing is a blast
God Bless!

Jay,
I just KNEW that you'd love the HBK2. (I've been tellin' ya that for months) You are rockin' your socks off now.

You will see a big difference with the 43 tooth pulley and the Telebee gyro. YIKES!
Soldering: I'm the expert, did that every day, when in the military. Not that hard, once you understand it.
Keep checking the belt tension!
Glad your having a blast,
God Bless ya Jay,
Dave / Choppersrule

soliciting a SUGGESTION from somebody with USEABLE BRAINS : that.
[ since I am bereft ]
the new TREX comes with a BUNDLE of connectors that were attached to the Futaba receiver.
Is there some "practical" way to figure out which connector is what ? there are 5 black
and one WHITE that only has 1 wire attached to it. I "guess" that is the GYRO ?
My idea is to get a servo extension, and after BINDING, stick one connector at a time in each slot, then label, until done.
any 'BETTER WAY" ?????
thanks for the LUCKY DOG greeting Mr. DAVE.....I guess that I really am, just like that
-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
A NOTE HERE; FOR MR. VIC MR.SCALER ; tomorrow I will set up the two horizontal stabilizers WITH THE DOWN ANGLE copied from your picture.
HAVING SEEN THE BELL FLY in the picture, do you STILL BELIEVE that they should be attached that way ??????
I mention here that a WEIGHT is attached to the front of the forward cabin, maybe that alone has removed the backwards slide you mentioned ?

thanks for the LUCKY DOG greeting Mr. DAVE.....I guess that I really am, just like that

I mention here that a WEIGHT is attached to the front of the forward cabin, maybe that alone has removed the backwards slide you mentioned ?

soliciting a SUGGESTION from somebody with USEABLE BRAINS : that.

Hey All,
I put the Futaba 7CHP to the HBKII tonight so I can design my own pitch curves through the computer. Everything went quite well considering I barely understand what I'm doing. So far I'm very close on the normal mode throttle and pitch curves. I did this at my house so I didn't try to hit Idle Up. I like to have room to catch it if it does something bad. The wind picked up before I was done so I did a short hop in the basement in a 5 foot by 4 foot area. I think I'm getting comfortable with it[8D]
I hope all is well!
God Bless,
Jay
