Wheeeeeeee.......... Blade CP!

Tim, your not alone on losing these small parts. I think Dave did a tip of the day on this, I can't remember. You can put a towel down and maybe work over a tray. My problem is not realizing that there's a loose part until it falls out and goes bouncing away. I can't tell you the countless hours I've spent crawling around my basement floor looking for screws, washers, bearings, and such[X(]
Jer, good to hear from you! Sounds like you have the Stryker under your belt. That's a steep learning curve so any other planks, ( with the exception of warbirds), so be a walk in the park. It's kind of like learning to fly on the Blade and then getting a bigger belt driven chopper
Rick, I hope it get's better, if not head in for another shot and maybe a chiropractor to fix the nerve. Prayers still going out for you
God Bless Ya,
Jay

Hi Ron, Have fun.
Ok, I think I figured out why I couldn't find a 1/2' ball. It didn't exist[X(]

. Bad pics, but I have rebuilt the rotor head. The parts blow upshows the ball on top of the swash plate. I was crawling around looking for it

So glad to see the BOB's all here still swapping lies as well as parts.
Oracus: Please pm me with a list of parts you need and I will go thru the box of parts I have here and try to get you a care package sent out. Sadly, I am lacking electronics (4 in1, servos, ect.) but I do have a huge pile of other parts that will not be needed. Let me know.
Rick my dear old buddy! Sorry to hear your still fighting the pain but you are a trooper............ and the eldest BOB, we all think highly of you. Glad to hear your boss has given you a lightened schedule as well as recup time. I am a hardnosed employer, I don't even let my people bleed on company time
Just jokin! My great Aunt had a bum nerve in her hip, she would get shots 4 times a year and boy could she walk up the hill to the spring at the cabin fast a couple weeks after getting one of those. Maybe it takes a little time, I sure hope it works for you.
Tim: Your setup looks good there, you must have switched to the microheli smain shaft and gear, a wise choice. The one i am running on my blade CP is still holding up nicely and just seems to go forever. Of course a lot of shelf time doesn't hurt it much either.........
Dave: I love those eyeball quizzes........ I found the arrow in about 20 seconds. funny , I have never noticed it before so now I will see it everytime I see one of those trucks or the emblem anywhere I go. I am gonna show the kidlets that this week (they get here tonite) and will give the first to see it an extra scoop of ice cream in thier rootbeer float. I am sure there will be a scramble and 4 deeply concentrating faces trying to see it!
Vic, that corsair ya got over in the other thread is looking good like I said there and if you like yours with the 3100kv setup I will get one and do the same. Get that sucker maidened and give us a detailed report.
Jay: Hows the plane you were showing us earlier holding up? I have been flying mine as often as possible and will be taking the Estarter and a couple of helis up to the Lake this coming weekend. Will be my first attempt at float takeoffs and landings so I am going to get educated I am sure. The lake is 5 miles long so I am sure we will be able to find a decent spot to annoy as few as possible and find some fairly calm waters.
To all: We had a informal flyin at the field by my place on Sunday, got a chance to meet a heck of a heli pilot and watch his TREX 450, TREX 500 and TREX 600N do all of the wild 3d moves as well as inverted hovering with all 3 and some awesome loops and rolls as well as flips in place tossed in. In total there were 6 of us with an assortment of planes and helis. Was a perfect flight day as not a single plane or heli was crashed and we have decided to make the meeting a at least bi-weekly thing. best part is that its only 2 blocks from my house.
Tis all for now............. gotta say.......wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.......... ................ RC!!!!!!!!!!!

Ferndale,
Just a very quicky.........
I hope you're not going to replace that assembly in the heli without checking the orientation of that locking collar on the main shaft. The slanty side goes toward the top bearing...flat side UP.

Tim,
Jay has a good memory, I did post a tip of the day on loosing screws / srews
, rolling off you work area. Jay hit the nail on the head, I use a big bath towel, and hold it down to the table with push-pins to keep it "Nice and Smooth"

It's not Rocket Science, but does work well.

I had the parts segregated in a chinette plate, a trick I haave use for planes for a while. What fell was a small hex nut. I found that immediately. That stop nut is how and where I found it.I would think I want the flat side on the bearing in the body.
Arrow, do I not have the standard rotor head on here? If not what is it?
I still haven't figured out how to balance this thing. Off to find instructions.

Tim,
Flat side on the bearing, is WRONG. The beveled or rounded side of the retaining collar, goes against the bearing. That way it reduces friction. See page 16 of the manual. Bottom right picture. You can see clearly that the beveled side is down.

Ferndale,
The reason for the slanty side down is that you only need to retain the driveshaft at the bearing's inner race. The outside diameter of the collar is such that if it were used with the slanty side up, the flat face would interfere with the stationary outer race of the top bearing.
Just ordered a few Microheli goodies for HBK....new main drive gear, main blade grips and parts which will upgrade the head to metal balls for the links.
Guitarist coming in a minute but just thought I'd check back to see what's going on.

Gentlemen, I will defer to your knowledge until such time as I can take apart and put back together the entire heli blindfolded, in 3 minutes. I was just indicating that it was the way I found it, so that is the way I replaced it. It's a trick from my days as a mechanic. If you I to tear something down that I wasn't familiar with, at every opportunity replace on the assy just as I found it. No worries it went on flat side up. That is one reason I posted the pic.
The heli is rebuilt and if the wind dies out I will use a peice of cardboard as a helipad and attempt to hover when or if the wind dies down. Is the aluminum head gear worth exploring? At $140 I will not be buying any, but just the swashplates are $25.

Chopper Here,
Tip of the Day:
Skids:
Don't use any type of glue or screws / srews(
) to keep the poles in the skids from turning. They have a more potential to bend / break. Just put them in and let it go. On landings, hard or soft, they may twist in the skids, but wont' bend or break. Unless, it's a terrific crash. Yuk-yuk!
See attached pictures.. not great, my camera sucks. But, you'll get the idea.

Ray, that's pretty cool you have names for all of your instruments. I named my key board, Yamaha PSR-225 " Piece O' Crap" because of trying to change the voice tones and such. Kinda kidding
I had our rabbit, a lop ear, out for it's nightly run in the basement and it decided to chew through my pedal cable[:@] Not a huge deal I cut out the bad sections and soldered in a new coaxial cable. I couldn't believe it worked! I'm not sure how much a pedal is, ( I've had this key board , and I play it every week, for at least 10 yrs now), but I didn't want to have to buy a new one. More than likely I would have gone out and purchased a whole new set-up.
Have fun Ray and enjoy every minute
God Bless Ya,
Jay

well guys I went for a flight today, I raised the swashplaye more, oiled the main shaft and swashplate, made sure the antenna on the radio was fully extended, put fresh batteries in the radio, and let the antenna on the helicopter dangle down alittle, tryed all these things and im still get what seems to me a glitch, still shooting up and then suddenly down, I flew two packs through it and had it happen about 4 times, I mean its managable when it happens 4 feet off the ground but I couldnt imagion having it happen 30 or 30 feet in the air, im not sure what is happening
#6872
HS, does it seem to happen within the first couple of minutes and lessens after a while? Are use using 3s Lipos? I found that my Original Blade CP w/ 4-in-1 glitches bad when I start out and after 2 minutes or so the glitches go away. I've never been able to cure the problem even after using a different radio but still the same 4-in-1. I've rerouted the antenna multiple times to no avail. It seems that there is a voltage build up and discharge causing my glitches, I cured it by now flying a HBKII. It doesn't glitch and is much more stable.
God Bless!

thats deff what im talking about theradioflyer it happens more in the first couple of minutes of flying then pretty much disappears after that, and im using 3 cell e-flite lipo batteries
#6874
I'm putting my money on the radio glitches then. I get them all of the time and unless you spend the money to replace the electrics you'll be chasing it and beating yourself up to find it. I've benched my CP now that I have the HBKII, it's SO much smoother and stable than the Blade series and most likely cheaper than upgrading your Blade[
]. I hope this helps
I really did a lot of things to try to get rid of the glitching and it never helped a bit.
God Bless Ya,
Jay

yeah I was thinking of replacing the electrics but then I was like for that price I can just buy a honeybee king 2 and be happy with that, I just started flying the cp pro really good and had it happening when I was flying it just avoiding it and now I relized 30 feet in the air it isnt going to be a good thing, so I might just fly it like this untill I get the money for a new heli
