Wheeeeeeee.......... Blade CP!
Vic ~
Ya had to go and do a test flight smacking into a tree didn't ya...?! LMAO !
Yeah thank-goodness for the tractor for sure on that one...
Can Kyle borrow it for his Firebird, which I'am assuming is still residing in one of his trees...?!
Oh.... You still would have had option B...... CHAINSAW....
That option was hard at my dads in Cali, because the law forbided you from cutting any tree over 10" in diameter.... Even if it was on your property... YIKES...
Makes kinda sense though in that area.
Jay ~
I just store my batteries in my HOT car..... Why...?..... Is that bad....?!
Naw, they usually spend there time in the garage on the wire shelf I have... I'am not to paranoid about it, but should be a little more. Nothing wrong with being to safe, that's for sure...
Joey ~
No lipo in my DX7, although I think Rick, and Jer do use a lipo and have had no probs I believe.... How nice it would be to not have to charge it all the time that's for sure. Some vendors sell lipo's specifically for our TX's. Like JPEE, I'am to afraid of it voiding the warranty and such... After all, Horizon Hobby does have excellent customer service so gotta take advantage of that if need be, but never had to yet. (Knock on wood)...
Dave ~
That's weird, I was just thinking about ya this morning as I was on the forums, and wanted to post to wonder how your doing, and hoping things were going ok for the Chief... Then low and behold, I see you post and your talking about doing some trolling in Liz's car...!
I REALLY hope things are ok for it. Let it dry out, and like Jay mentioned, my worst fear is she killed it in the deep water and then maybe tried to even re-start it with the muffler exposed underwater. Or maybe the distributor cap got some splashes in her. Some aren't sealed all that perfect, and some are. My Honda's and Acura's I always have to cover the cap, and the exposed air-intake because otherwise the water will sneak in there when I'am washing out the engine.... Then I blow-dry it with my Echo blower...
Keep us informed....
Jim ~
Good to hear the 450 held up, but sorry for the crash... I almost wiped out my 450 yesterday also... Last time I flew it was a month ago, but I did hover it in my yard a few weeks ago trying out a 12t pinion with the 4400 kv -6 Scorpion... It came back to me slowly, but the first few minutes were kinda hairy, and jittery...

Here's my flight from yesterday ! (A cut and paste here).....
I finally got a quick chance yesterday at 1:00 p.m. to try out the Trex 450 using a 12t Rhino pinion I installed a few weeks ago... I thought it was killer in my yard with that -6 4400kv Scorpion motor, but found out otherwise at the field today during the test flight. Yeah the thing hauls *****, since by the Darkhorse Calculator the headspeed is around 3,992 rpm's, but I noticed a significant decrease in Torque by far. I really like the 11t I did have on like you saw in my last flight with the Floyd song about a month ago. The 11t with a 3500 headspeed was perfect so far in testing... I don't have a 10t pinion, or I would try that one also... In time....
Well if there was one word to describe this Trex 450 video, it would be "jittery"...... Not consistent at all... Definately some sim time needed here soon. But it got a little better, toward the end but not really. I was also wrong about the flight time and getting 7 minutes.... NOPE... I forgot, I start recording when I'am at the truck so that I can see and set the hatcam to make sure its on straight looking at my reflection on the truck window. Then I walk to the far corner to keep the morning or afternoon sun to my back...
I kept getting distracted by two little future pilots that I spotted across the way before I even spooled the 450 up. They were gradually worming there way closer, and I had to stay alert, especially with my wild tendencies.... (LMAO)...
When I first popped the 450 up, I right away noticed my tracking was off considerably... Darn it I thought... It was fine before, but I forgot I was punching it out a couple weeks ago in my yard to test that 12t pinion, and remember my old neighbor distracting me, and so I landed... I must have blown out the tired CPP o-ring's I'am using punching out like that, and didn't notice because I had landed quickly to talk to the neighbor and the 450 sat since until this flight...
So the first minute I'am in Normal mode swaying back and forth debating if I should run back home and fix the tracking and then come back, while at the same time watching the two boys sitting down across the way at the fitness center/pool...
Hek with it, I looked down at my DX7 because all of a sudden I forgot where the dang idle up switch is at, because I've been involved with my CPP and the stock TX which I use for that heli, has the idle up on the opposite side than my DX7's, and as you may remember, I've already accidently hit throttle hold twice thinking it was idle up awhile ago on the T-450, and Logo...
Now I can easily see how Randy got used to his cyclic commands upright, but then brainfarted a few times while inverted like he told us about awhile ago. Funny how are brains work ! Either way, its not good to mix 2 different TX's... At least for me...
I think I finally know how to program EXPO into my DX7, because I had to learn how for this Mini-Funtana plane.... So with this touchy 450 which has the 4 gram CPP paddles, the higher headspeed, and the 88% swash mix, with also using my DX7's sticks screwed all the way down to make them short and sensitive, I'am going to "ADD" some EXPO to smooth it out around center, as I've read many times before but just never understood where, or how to program that... You gotta understand the TX is my main weak point with this RC stuff... Don't know why...
How much expo would you guys recommend who've done it, and experienced it, so that I don't go to much, but yet enough so that I can feel or tell the diff... ? Ivan, Randy ? I don't want to much, because I've never used it and learned without it, but I need to sprinkle just a smidgen of love to help see if It smooths things out just a bit for me...
Here our 2 future RC-Heli pilots below.....!

Here's my shameful video from yesterday..... A couple of more flights, and I should be back in the groove to being at least a little more smooth with the flying. I think I got distracted, so I forgot to set my timer on the DX7... Great, now its a guessing game... Luckily I guessed right-on, because my LVC kicked in exactly 8 seconds before it set foot on the ground... Yikes ! 2009 mah put back into the 2200 mah 35c lipo... VERY short runtimes and a decrease in torque... Me no likey........
The video doesn't show the tracking off really, but about the 47 second mark it kinda does... I use the dark contrast of the trees as a backdrop usually to check as you see me kinda do...

Floating Car:
Update on Liz's car.
We went down to get the floater after dinner.
It took awhile to get it started. After about 5 good attempts. Finally she kick over and ran,, pretty rough at first, sputtering and all. White smoke bellowing everywhere.. My theory is that the engine stopped when Liz was going through the deep water and filled the exhaust system with water. That'll kill an engine in a heart beat. Blocked exhaust. (BTW, the engine was not wet anywhere.) Drove it home, runs like usual. Oh, the bad part, water did get into the interior. The water actually was under the carpeting pushing it up, Never seen that before. I had to cut a slit in the carpeting with a utility knife to let the water surface to the top. We used the wet/vac to get the water out as much as possible. I'm quessing about 20 gallons of water. We had to empty the wet/vac 3 times. It should dry out okay in a few days. If it starts to smell nasty, I'll have to pull the seats out and remove the carpeting and let them air dry in the sun for about a week. I've worked on flood cars before at work, and we always remove the seats and carpeting, the customer / insurance company is paying big bucks on a flood vehicke. It could have been worse. I consider it a lesson learned for Liz. I didn't even Yell at her. LMAO!

Just a tiny bump in the road, think I'll go play with HK450 #2..

Jeff,
Great flying. You were hauling! Maybe go to a 11t to see if you get more run time with it. Expo at 25% to start maybe?
Dave,
Glad you got her going again and it wasn't a bigger deal. At least it was somewhat clean water and not like swap water[:'(]
Blessings,
Jay

Whew, good to hear the car will be ok....
Yeah, go fly that 450....! Maybe make some floats for her....?!
JPEE ~
Yeah we got to watch out for mold here in the Pacific Northwest since its generally a damp area.... MOLD SPORES will kill you faster than cancer !
Jay ~
Yeah I'am putting the 11t back on for sure... The 3500 headspeed with that pinion is perfect. Way better punchouts, and still quick... With this 12t, and the 3992 headspeed, it was quick but I felt the lack of torque from what the 11t displayed. Plus, yeah I get much better flight times. I've put back 1900 mah into that 2200 mah 35c lipo in idle 1 at a 87% throttle curve across and got 8 minutes. In my last video I put back 1439 mah into it and got almost 5 minutes as you may remember...

BTW.... I still keep thinking about Precisions Katana......

Dave- Nice to hear the car is running. With your background, I'm sure you will have it like new in no time at all.
Jeff- Once you got past the initial minute, it was like you had been flying it all along! You really make that thing haul! I plan to try the 11T in my -8 as I do the rebuild. I should be able to pickup the parts I need at the LHS tomorrow. Aside from the earlier damage report, I stripped a set of servo gears on the elevator servo, the main shaft is "tweaked". The one blade (FG) has a minor little ding on the trailing edge. I will likely replace them anyhow.
Jay- Isn't hunting season right around the corner? And soccer season too?
Jim

Looking for some help guys. I'm not going to be able to get my new Futaba 7ch anytime soon. A deal feel through and I'm not going to have the funds right away. With my new HDX frame and servos arriving tomorrow I'd really like to get up and flying asap. If any of you guys have a stock system or something that's simply not being used and you can sell me rather cheap please let me know. Thanks, Joe
Joey,
I have a Tower Hobbies code that will take $20 off your order. They just had one that would take $30 off but ended July 31st. That stinks your deal fell through[:@]
Jim,
I was just painting my bind I built today
I'll get a second coat on it tomorrow and then start the camouflaging[8D] No word from soccer yet, but I took my son and his friend over to the baseball diamond this afternoon and had some fun. Boy.... I'm getting old and stuff like my knees really hurt. I gotta stop trying to keep up with them
When start in your neck of the woods? Planning on hunting this year?
Since this is an E-Flite based thread this won't be too far off topic but I have one of these spoken for at LHS. Should be in next week[8D]

Jay- I'm confused! Is it the plane you have spoken for or the lady in the picture??!! Soccer practice has started for us for the fall season. We actually are going to participate in a tournament on Saturday at Penn State, right next to Beaver Stadium (We are, Penn State!), LOL. I love college football. Anyway, it's a 6V6 on a small sided field. Should be a great time for the kids. No plans to hunt this season though that may change. One never knows.
Joey- No spare radios but I'll keep an eye out. I have those discount deals for Tower Hobbies too!

I know, I can't wait until you can hurry and get the 450 airborne again... I love watching your vids for sure ! The sound the Scorpion motors throw, reminds me of a V8... LMAO...
Jay ~
Its on topic.... There's a lady involved... Good move throwing her in !
[8D] We'll accept more.....
Its ok, I don't think she's looking... (LMAO).
Yeah, I got distracted a bit with the 450, so the MFX got shuffled aside. Lol...
DANG ! So close eh ?!
LMAO.... I know, I gotta keep chuggin' crap I'am like about 35 minutes away of more work until its airborne.
Hey, go pester Jim about that Decathlon, he was first.......!
Yeah, on a series note and speaking of Jim, that's the one small thing also I still have to do, and that is putting those skinny CF support rods on that back elevator underneath or whatever for support... Because I remember from Jim's Decathlon video when he fired it up and the vibrations back there or whatever. So just one more step from the manual, no biggie...
Yeah I love the plane ! Heh... Remember that show "Fantasy Island" ?!
Z-PLANE ! Z-PLANE !....
I forgot the little guys name.....
Is Crash climbing trees again out back.... ? Someone go check..............
I hear commotion.....

LMAO....no, been to darned windy for even the birds to be in the trees...saw some walking today. My G401B finally BROKE and OMG do I miss it. I threw in a Walkera WK0006G, it works OK, I did a few flights in the driveway after the wind and sun went down...it don't have the snap that the G401B has. It holds the tail decient in punchout and side gusts of wind, but the tail servo moves tremendously slower even with the EXPO and D/R maxed out. It's flyable, it's OK, but I don't like it.
That Stearman is NICE...and has the typical E-Flite price tag on it. I love it, but NOT $220 worth of love it.
No planes went up today...just to rotten outside. I left my dog hooked out for 10 minuets while I tended the EXI-450 in the basement working on the gyro issue. WHen I got upstairs, it was raining buckets. I figured she had enough sense to get under the porch, so I walked out to get her...she's standing in the yard...soaked to the skin, and she's part labrador, so it rained HARD to get through her coat. She's standing there looking at me...water pouring down her face. Well...now I spend the next 10 minuets toweling her off. I think I felt bad....for a minuet. I laughed like crazy when I see she didn't get under the porch...."stupid dog". LMAO.
YES...MY LIFE IS BORING!!!

That's too funny Vic. Two of my dogs would have hit the porch and the other would have stood there.... Yep the Lab/Pit, LMAO

Weather...what we needed to hear. Winds 5-10mph for next couple days....that's great news for helis and foamies. With the F-16, it can tolerate a steady 18mph wind as long as no gusts. The Corsair...it likes 5mph winds, no gusts. Anything above 8-9mph, I can't fly it...it's just a bit much.

Wow, catchup time for me again... Had to change the schedule, go to bed at 8, get up at 3 for the next two months, work stuff, so haven't had much chance to do anything with sleepy eyes while I adjust. Seeing some great vids, glad to hear cars aren't completely flooded, seeing some models show off some birds... *continues to catch up more*

Man that thing was movin!!!! LOL that is a great song Temple of the Dog= Soundgarden+Pearl Jam too bad that group didn't last longer. Yes my Skyfly is still in a tree we had some windy days in the last few weeks and I checked every couple days to see if I could see it(I know where abouts) and all i got was a tail piece and a rubber band. But yesterday was like a HURRICANE in Indiana(I live 1hr south of Dave) so I will check again soon.
Joey
I got a Hitec eclipse 7 72mhz FM so PM me if Interested
Jpee
That story has ALOT of very good points and I will agree with most. The thing is for a commercial lead acid batt I have never seen one that doesn't leak(non-sealed) I have worked with batteries for at least 13 years(M1A1 Abrams Tank has 6 batteries) and still have vehicle batt probs here at the Prison.
Dave
Man glad everyone is ok I know we got alot on damage down around here.
Now my update Tuesday i got my DX6i back from Horizon with a gift of a new AR6100E
I also started building a new foamie plane the one I posted plans on awhile back the "Street Fighter" got some cheap foam from walmart and got most of it cut out.

That's right yours is a SkyFly... I thought hard and for some reason the Firebird came to mind... Lol...
Whatever, there all the same thing.
Yeah hopefully you can get it down sometime soon at least. I was just thinking about it the other day, and wondering if ya got it.
I fired up the Funtana holding it in my hand in the garage a bit ago, and I decided to juice it to feel what the thrust felt like, and it almost jolted right out of my hand... LMAO... Almost aimed toward the truck. Lol... I think a plane prop could chew you up worse than a heli rotor, but not sure... Were not finding out either, but its a pretty wicked little set-up compared to the RTF Typhoon. Its all ready right now. Everything.... Its ready for Taxi...
Its misty and damp right now, but this afternoon the sun is suppose to be out, but that means the wind to... I'am not sure I'll brave that. I put in 40% expo just going by feel of the sticks, and watching the controls on the plane. Yeah, if you don't have any expo in, I noticed if I move the DX7 stick even 1mm stuff reacts and moves... LMAO... Jay is right when he said "Serious" about the plane being uncontrollable...
I have to go back a few pages and see what Jay recommended again, and see if I'am ok here with what I have.
Anyway, today is one of those days where anything could happen... (LMAO)...

Hey guys..............
Went out yesterday and flew some of the new stuff and some of the old. I took my Century Swift 16 out to see how i liked it on my jr x9303............. Let me remind those of you that don't remember this stuff......... don't just set up the swash in normal mode and figure you will come back to finishing the other flight modes. Yep......... I did it................ I hit throttle hold after 5 minutes of lazy hovering and trying to dial in my heli. It was on the ground when i hit the TH switch. The swash went all the way back and left. Flybar, feathering shaft and possibly blade grips are sure victims of my notorious blunder. The gears both seem to be ok as well as the pinion but I will not know until I get home later today and start in on the damage assesment. Rotor speed had slowed to about 900 rpm so I figure i got lucky........... I was thinking I was gonna hit the TH switch when i was about 10 ft up............glad i didn't.
Its been awhile since i flew any of the heli's so I gotta admit I am probably right back to being a n00b. However........ there was a bright side to my day.......... I only have the maiden flight filmed but Jay could probably tell ya what kind of plank this is! I had to repair the LG on this plane and tested my fix yesterday.......... All i can say is, these planks are sweet!

To all the BOBs........ great to see this thread still so active. I have to admit I have fallen over to the "dark side" and do not get much single rotor time in anymore. I will fix the Swift and continue on with my mad hovering and slow FF skilz..........
Dave: Jacki says Hi!!
Vic....... Did you ever see what i did with my Corsair? It was almost bulletproof (I finally did give it one too many death spirals tho) I did add some of your fixes to it also. Servo trays and beefier battery tray as well as dual Ailerons. I have another one NIB still waiting to be built as well as the little bigger one. Working on the flaps on that one. Can you say Nightmare?
Jay.............3DHS Rocks!!!
Jeff............. When you gonna invite me up to see your flying skilz? I notice you never wanna come down to the slums on this side of our little pond so I will have to come hunt you down! LOL!!!
All my best to the rest! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee........... I still have 4 blade CP's.......heh!!
lild506: RCU has a special place here on the forums.........its called the RCU marketplace. I bet you will get alot more views of your CP there. Take some decent pics of what you have and above all be honest about it's condition........ Most modelers can smell BS a mile away with the wind blowing the opposite direction. If a guy knows up front what he is paying for he is less likely to send Bubba and his bat to your house to "adjust" the selling price. [sm=shades_smile.gif]

Nice Arrow
Beautiful landing on the first flight BTW. I wish I could get mine that smooth! I take it that's the 49" Sukhoi? You fly her really well, perfect fit[8D]
I took out the 3DHS40" edge and the 3DHS47" Velox today. I had two magnet on the can come loose and bind the motor up. I was luck to get it down. I tore the motor down and fixed it for now
I also did some "loose" formation flying with a friend. He had a Parkzone P-51 ( which looks and flies incredibly) and I was flying the F-16. It was our version of the Heritage Flight. One pass we made looked really awesome. Probably one of the coolest things I've ever done in RC.
Blessings,
Jay

Tracy...pm me with this stuff.....I'm interested. My Corsair flies great, it's unreal how this one come together. A different brushless powerplant with direct drive, 1500mAh 20c's worked wonders...no more bent prop shafts, or being too heavy.
JAY...now you done it....I'm gonna order a P-17 Stearman (GWS) for about $33. I will use the exact setup I'm using in the Corsair. Getting the GWS model, I can outfit it the way I want, like I did the GWS Corsair, a little balsa here, microply there, and some .030 clear plastic here and there to strengthen it. And of course....acrylic paint is CHEAP for these.

I know ! One of these days... Hek, I haven't even visited my mom and stepdad yet since I've been back from Cali and they live across the water also ! LMAO... Get in line...
Naw, one of these days... I'am actually going over to the otherside to visit with my mom here toward the end of the weekend. I gotta hurry and get my T-500 tuned because I gotta bring at least one heli ! Gonna do some work over there as well, there's a 40" Katana that needs a home here in my garage.
Drove to the field, to maiden this Mini-Funtana, but there was Soccer folks there ! YIKES... I was ready to gulp and swallow, and take her up at least for one loop around and then land, then puke, then try it all over again....! LMAO... I'am nervous as hek, as I've only flown my Challenger once, and my Typhoon once in the last 9 months.. Eh...
I put the Typhoon wheels on, so this will be better until I remember how to land. Much bigger, & light and it helped lift the prop up a bit more... Also lost the 20 grams worth of wheel pants.
Alright, gotta go check that field again... It looked as if they were getting ready to go, as I saw cars leaving when I drove by...
Ummmmmm, yeah..... Gonna have to figure this one out also... (LMAO)...Mmmmmckaaaayy....
