gas fuel with glo plug no ignition

I have had manufacturers of high dollar gasoline engines contact me and express interest in our Gas/Glow projects. (Not going to mention names so please don't ask.)
That kind of says something in itself.
But, let's give Captain a little "space". If he doesn't like the Gas/Glow concept for some reason, well then as I said, to each his own...
I've repeatedly stated that it "May not be for everyone". Some people have had traumatic experiences with glow plugs as children.

one thing about gas/glow is the way ppl look at your enging and just say what in world is that... That part is fun lol..... I have had alot of fun with my gas/glow but remeber that it can bite you...... that is the only set back that I can see with gas/glow......

Ralph: Yes I have tried gas glow....but not with the good running you guys are getting. Very good starts...but almost aways it runs backwards. On Idle my Hommie shook like a paint shaker. Good running on top end. I will try a echo next. My Hommie is not a good canidate. I did run the Hommie 25cc on strait glow fuel years ago. Mayby 8 or so. Very powerfull and a hand killer. I must get the best set-up for(from AV8tor) when I do the Echo. Best regards Capt,n Note...Look for the engine with tiny glow plug, with long studs in backplate

From my experience Gas-Glow likes higher compression engines.
This is where the 10/10 mixture comes up a little short.
I just came across a 20/10 glow fuel.
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...8&I=LXHCT9&P=K
I believe on low compression motors this will give much better idle and transition
I have used 20/20 fuel with good results on a 32cc Mac. With the proper oil content it should be even better.
As far as starting backwards I've been told that is from being too rich.
I have to admit that I almost always use a starter.
A Sullivan on 24volts does a nice job. It's quick easy and even spins a ST-3250 set up as a Davis Diesel.

Ralphbf: Good point on the higher compression.....maybe that is why my Hommie 25cc did not cut the buck! On the gas/glow thing....I do agree if you got the right engine set-up it must be good. I do like to get Avator going a bit...that way he tells us all the details on how to get the gas/glow engines purring.
I like all engines...and I am still determined to get a good gas/glow engine going. Maybe after I get my new pace-maker installed I can get more done...i hope!!!! Best Regards to all............Capt,n

Hi captinjohn,
It is good to see that you are working youself back up to speed. I hope your pacemaker brings you up to normal. That is quite a group of engines you have in work there. I have an echo ready to go on Gas/Glow, but have not run it yet. The one I have to run on the magneto is still not complete yet. Still not able to get the prop adapter with L/H threads.

Oldtimer: The engines in that photo are only about 1/2 of engines in the works!!! In a way taking your time is in my favor. More time to read good ideas from fellow converts. Yup fine tuning and good ideas is the key to a good runing engine. Capt,n

That is a great job you did on the crank to fix the L/H threads, but I have no access to the machinery nor the experience required to do the job. All I need is a prop hub to butt up to the magneto and some lock tite to hold it all together. Thanks anyway for trying to be of assistance. I appreciate it.

Oldtimer: I got a plan to do the Echo left hand threads. I will draw it out in detail...scan the drawing...and have all the details. Look for this in a couple of days. Capt,n

Hey bob you made me a question about the size of the walbro carb on my magnum 1.80 i am using a stock WA149A with aventury that looks like 9 mm, the engine is stock with brass bushings but the fuel has 8-10% oil instead of the regular 2.5 to 3.3 %

Hi Aeronut. That does seem small for a 30cc engine. I would try at least an 11mm carb on it and you could possibly get away with even larger. The glow engines come with carbs that are a little smaller than optimum to assist fuel draw as they have no fuel pump. With a pump, one can go to a larger carb. Perhaps either you or whomever converted the engine just copied the size that was on the engine originally. You can go bigger, and you will probably see more power....
Good luck,

hello, ive just picked up a ryobi 31cc from a weed trimmer, and am using it for conversion. i have heard the stock carb is restrictive so am thinking of the WT-499 carb, right in my price range for $35.my assumption is i would need no other mods to the carb as it is for alky. has anyone done this before? i cannot find if it is a pump style carb or not. would this be a resonable start?
thanks in advance

Hi captinjohn.
I will be interested in seeing your drawings to fix the L/H threads on the echo 23.6. If it dosen't look too dificult maybe I can find a local machine shop to do the job for a reasonable price. I have the crankshaft removed from the case.

Commander,
The WT-499 is just a Walbro pumper with larger passages for glow fuel and has an 11mm venturi. You can use a standard Walbro 11mm carb for gas glow. The 499 may run a little rich if you can't close the needles enough. The 499 would be nice to have around for experimenting.

i have a 285 off a poulan that fits the mounts so i might try that one. i will be changing the port timing on this, i cant believe how restricted it is. what kind of rpm's should i shoot for? i was ball parking 9500 but the rod i stamped steel so i donno how tough it is.i am about 50/50 with people telling me to stay gas so i may have the two compared soon.

Here's a link to an ebay store that has carbs. Got a new one for $14 shipped.

ok so because i am inexpirienced (age 15) can you briefly explain this to me?
if i get a OS#F (four stroke plug) and put that in a gas engine (via an adapeter) it will run on just straight gas with standard 2-stroke oil mixed in without a power supply? i.e i don't want a standard plug with glow heater attached constantly.
i just want to shed the weight of my ign system off of my engine without using electronic ignition.
the only nitro expirience i have had was with a .045 cox that liked the run backwards.
but i have had a small amount of gas expirience and want to shed some weight off my gasser (not a plane)

I have also found this forum difficult to keep up with. 80 pages of material is just too much hypothesis, experimentation, testing, failure and success to digest. I suggest creating a wikipedia entry so that the latest information is at our fingertips. This is the perfect example of where the wiki format trumps a forum for knowledge sharing.

You need 1 part 10/10 glow fuel and 2 parts gas, and a F glow plug with the adapter.
I can add the second:
And if it does not work for your engine, feel free to experiment and post your results here.
The reason for that is, that there are so many different 2-strokes available, and everyone is a little different as for all parameters, like size, compression, porting, carb size and type etc. There is no golden rule, that will apply to everyone. There is a starting point (First sentence) and open field for improvement for particular brand/size/type/year/model gas engine.
