Just ran it with a Wacker muffler for the Poulan 25, rpm was the same as yesterday with the heli muffler with a LOT more noise[

Next weekend I'll try a bigger carb and maybe the V-tech. NOPE, not in the same power class as the G-26, but for the $64.91 I have invested in it so far, it's a GREAT little motor.

I have a Walbro with a 28 venturi that I am going to install. I have already bored out the manifold. Now I need a header and pipe.
I notice the manual rates the engine at 7800. I haven't degreed the ports yet.

Well, since the Cowboys are playing so badly, I went ahead and tried the V-tech. 7860rpm now. Not as big a boost as I was expecting. I think the small stock carb is holding it back now. Having fun though, will find out more next weekend.

If you haven't bored the manifold to match the carb, that is a problem. The manifold as cast has only a 10mm bore and the throttle plate is 14mm. The manifold is designed to be bored out. The venturi is larger than the manifold bore. Just bore deep enough to remove the built-in restrictor and blend in to the main body. The manifold matches the intake port well.
Ralph;
I hope you can get one of these. I would like to see one with your ignition.

Ralph: The "met your G26 match" in my post was to get more imput. Guess that may have worked. I owne a G38 Zenoah and had a G62...that I wish I never had sold. They are both very high quality engines, built to out last the owner!! I would like to see a few of these mac,s (MB290) with your ignition on them. It would put a nice little unit in the price range for the the tighter buget RC fans. Thanks Capt,n

flipflop,
Your presentation is very informative. Thanks for the pictures. Looking forward to more experimental test results.
I am bashing a very old Giant Stik into a twin. Starting multiple engines can be dangerous. Do you think the pull starter could be left on the engine? The pull starter does not look like it is very heavy.

It would be very easy to keep the pull starter, four 1.2 in. standoffs drilled and tapped 3mm or 4mm. (I'll have to go back check for sure) would be all you needed. I kept my starter thinking the same thing, that this engine is so light, I could keep the original starter with a minimal weight gain. But so far the motor has started in less than 8 flips everytime, haven't used an electric starter yet. Right now, I tentatively have this motor slated to go in a Hanger 9 Funtana 90, so I'll be trying to keep everything as light as possible. Now that I've got some baseline readings on different mufflers, I'll move to the intake side this weekend.

My engine is still in the blower....use it a lot blow snow off deck and truck...ect. I am thinking about boring out the intake to get rid of restricter like dbryan says. I bet she will sing then!!!

I called home Depot in Muskegon. They said the batch they got in was a one time purchase. They sold all out. The person called 2 other Home depot stores and found out they was all sold out too! I thought I could locate a few for whoever whanted one. The person also told me by using the Home Depot Webb-site, you should be able to locate a few???? Maybe buying from MTD company would work?[&o] Good luck Capt,n[:-]

I didn’t find anything at the Home Depot web site but found the following information at Harbor Freight. I was looking for something with the pull starter on the rear. The 31cc engines are probably Ryobi. I have difficulty starting my Ryobi and like the idea of having a pull starter.

The MB290 blower is now listed on the McCulloch web site so apparently it is going to be a stock item. However, none of their stocking dealers have it listed on their sites. The ones at Home Depot were apparently the initial shipment.

Back again... todays testing was done with a G-23 carb adapter, one of the 11mm Walbros I got from Scott Ellingson and the Wacker muffler. I had the G-23 carb adapter laying around and it perfectly with just a tiny bit of port matching (or Moto-tooling, whatever you want to call it
) I wanted to keep the stock adapter unmodified so I could go back and do some more testing with the stock intake. The Bambula 16x8, Pro Zinger 16x8, and APC 16x8 all turned right around 7860rpm. Rats, I was wanting to see over 8000 so I tried a MA 16x6,8100rpm and an APC 17x6 turned 8010rpm. Nice.... but again, I was expecting a little bit more. OK, it's time to get serious. Out comes the degree wheel so I can find out exactly what is going on. Stock intake duration is 127*, that's not too bad. But the stock exhaust duration is a horsepower squashing 122*. Ugh... got to fix that. Milled the exhaust port, moto-tooled the intake. Now the intake is at 134* and the exhaust is at 153*. Went ahead and removed some of the fins on the back of the cylinder while I was at it. With Christmas and all I don't know yet if I'll get the chance to run it tomorrow or not.
Anyhow
Merry Christmas everybody

Well I have ran about 4 tanks of chainsaw oil/gas at 40-1 and I decided to use the synthetic oil that came with the M290 blower. I dumped all remaining fuel out of blower back into saw mix can. Placed complete new synthetic mix in it and she ran even better!!! The RPM picked up more. It really pushes air for a small blower. It is sure handy to have. Got to find another for a plane...yup its that nice!!!!

Hello Guys, My local Home Depo has 3 of these McCullough MAC MB 290 blowers left for 60 bucks plus 6% PA tax.. If anyone wants me to I'd get one or some for you and get them shipped to you for costs only. Which ever you want, I could ship the whole box or I would strip off the blower parts and save you some shipping. One of the three looked like it didn't have a box though. Just let me know. Joe Butch

WOW....Guess what! I found a place the was selling the MB290 for $39.95!!! They have 4 left. The price is higher now, but the worker there said in Feb they will reduce them to $39.95 again to clear out for new spring stock. Can,t wait
