I tried every way you can think of to keep the bolts tight, including locktite and finally tried whats in the picture. This now works fine. The props and spinners were balanced and I still could not keep the bolts tight until I went to this.
You're probably using 10-32 screws. Use 5 mm in stead and heat-resistant thread locker available from your local Advance Auto Parts.
Attached about 100 flights of abuse.

I used the bolts that came with the engine and even ordered more factory bolts from my dealer. They are for sure 5mm bolts.Wirelocking them has fixed it .

If you can get to the bolt heads, I agree that's the best way. I safety wired my ZDZ 50NG's with Supersonic mufflers. No thread locker needed. Just snug them and wire them.

JoeAirport did you drill the tie wire holes yourself or were you able to buy the allen bolts pre drilled

I don't hink you can't buy them pre- drilled. And drilling them yourself is a b...h. The doggon steel is hard as rock. Buy an envelope of high quality drill bits. You'll need them

I had to drill them myself. Actually it wasn't that bad with a drill press. It's true the metal is hard but the bits do go through if you feed the bit through with patience. I think I broke one bit but I'm pretty impatient. The hardest part is actually the curve of the bolt head. You need to center tap the bolt head good and hold the bolt steady in a drill press vise. Then slowly feed the bit. Too fast and either the drill slips off the curve of the bolt or it snaps from too much down force. Once I got the hang of it, it was really easy.

Without a drill press and vise, it might be pretty tough.

I ground a flat on the side of the bolt with a bench grinder and used a drill press/vise and cutting oil. Take your time.

McMaster Carr has socket head cap screws pre-drilled for wire ties... but I think they have SAE only... no metric..

Here is my latest plane for the DL-50. The SD-model yak I had the motor on wouldn't fly threw my father-in-laws blazer. Even though I prayed that it would when it skipped off of the side of it. LOL!

This is someone else's cap but you get the picture.

nice plane rcfan. Who makes it?
I have a sd-model extra 260. After 12 flights the spinner bolt broke throwing the spinner off and was caught by the JXF prop. Destroyed both the spinner and the prop and fortunately I was able to land her. Tom of valleyviewrc was so kind, he replaced both the spinner and the props for free! Now that's what I call service. With an extractor, I was
Able to take out the broken nut that was left in the shaft. Now she's ready to fly again.
Good luck with your maiden. You will love that plane.

Holy smokes that's a good price. How does it go together? Seems to fly nice.

PS: Also free shiping on orders over $25? Man what a deal.

It's the Aeroworks 35cc Extra 260. I paid the full price (ouch) then a week later they put it on sale for $150 less (no free shipping either). So I'm a little bitter about that, they said they would give me a discount on my next purchase - as if I'll be spending 500 bones on a plane again anytime soon! Well, hopefully not.

Either way the DL has been fired up several times to test out the smoke system and break in the engine. So far the motor is running great. 6900 rpm's @ 6500' above sea level seems pretty good to me for the first runs.

Unfortunately we just got another 12" of snow today on top of the 14" we already had. The only thing I maidened today was my snowblower!

great plane then rcfan!
Didn't have anything against aeroworks except for the price and weight. I have the .46-.60 edge 540 and it's flies beautifully...
On sale after you bought it huh? Bummer...
Check out tom of valleyviewrc, that's where I got mine and he's got great combos too.
So, you've been itching to maiden your baby, hang in there...move to a warmer state maybe? LOL.
Hey, do you have any pix/instruction on your smoke system? Curious and totally no idea...

It's a little too late to check out Tom @ Valleyviewrc for me.
Moving has crossed my mind more than once lately.
Sorry no pics of the smoke setup. It's very straight forward though. Set up just like another gas tank really except it pumps the smoke to the muffler instead of carb.

As far as weight goes, this is actually a pretty light plane for its size. With the smoke system, redundancy on receiver batteries and switches, no lipo batteries... it came in at 14.5lb dry (add another 26oz of fluid for flying weight). The DL 50 will pull this thing around with authority! I weighed it w/o all the extra crap during build and it was 13lb 10oz. Either way, the DL will do an excellent job out of making this thing a 3D machine.

Here's the only picture I've got of it w/o its canapy on.

Is the DL-50 spinner bolt 10-32 or M5?

Replied to your PM Joe but for anyone else that may need to know, the DL spinner bolt is 5mm x .8, for both the 50 and 100cc engines.

Cool thanks Jody. I think I used a 10-32 for a few flights and it seemed to fit ok but I'd rather use the right bolt. There's not much a of a differnce between a 10-32 and an M5 x .8 bolt.

Joe the spinner bolt is 5mm. But you can use a 10/32. Just don't use a 5mm to replace a 10/32. It won't fit.
