Folks i found out firsthand who is standing behind the DL when my ring broke. What Bob has said about the other guy is absolutely true and u all need to know. I bought mine from the other guy as Bob was out of stock. He told me from his own mouth that he would back it up with a 2 year warranty. That is a blatant lie. Called him wouldnt return my call so i emailed him and he told me to send it in and he would tell me how much it would cost to fix it. One call to Bob and after $116 in parts for a new piston, ring, wrist pin and bearing she will b running again in 10 minutes. Beware is all i can say. Maybe this is not an appropriate post but the world should know about these kinds of people. I have 2 of the engines and they are the best value out there.. Cant wait to get a 100.

I have 24lb.fok.DVII., that is definitely underpowered with the Quadra 42 I have in it. All the chatter on all these threads these days is full of 3D performance requirements.I need to know what a DL50 would do as an engine for this Fat Fokker. That, and what size prop. would you recommend to fly it at about 60-70mph.

I would think low diamater, high pitch for higher speed aplications.
Got the cap with the DL out again today. I FINALLY got the hang of the flip start and am getting it to start within 5 flips. Just a different process that takes getting used to. The engine is running great. I was having a little heat problems so i need to open the cowl up more. I am going to try and expose more of the cylinder head. Hopefully that will let me lean it out a little more. The engine seems to be getting better each flight. I got 4 flights on it today. Really impressive verticle at the moment (to me that is all that matters
) and i am hopeing it will get better. I think i have around a gallon run through it.

Has anybody else had problems at their field with the noise of the stock exhaust on the DL 50? I have been to a couple of fields that breakout the sound meter when I fire up the DL. I was wondering if anybody has tried to silence it any?

I've had several comments on mine but we don't have a noise limitation, just a muffler requirement that some of the older guys don't seem to follow with their older 2-stroke glow engines. I know several guys have run cans on these with success though.

Will the stock muffler and a Vess 22B...full throttle came in at 98db. The 22X8 pro Zinger came in at 99db. We turned the plane around to give a different side to the sound meter and the vess came in at 96db.

Well, I have finally gotten around to doing the breakin on my new DL. It started immediately after getting some gas to the carb and after the first tank, it started on 2 or 3 flips every time. I put a total of four 20 oz tanks through it stopping and restarting it several times on each tank. With every tank it seemed to run better. As I didn't have a tach, I don't have any specifics to report. I kept the RPMs low but overall I am very happy. I think I have another winner.
This one goes in an 84" CB Hobbies Extra 300 Special (same plane as the Wild Hare version 1 with a different color scheme).

Bob..Lou..I will post a video soon, just abit cold and windy over here at the moment...I will show the 'pull out' with the DL on a 17lb plane...quite impressive.
In the meantime, you guys with a new DL....just bear with it for the first tank, it hardly ticks over or transitions until the first tank is done, then all of a sudden you will hear and feel a massive difference, then you can safely fly with it. You may need to open the throttle slightly AFTER starting it for the first time just to keep it running.
I'll post some more pics as requested later today.

J.F...
I am in the UK too, and as for a dealer, they all seem scared of importing the DL, as the people i have mentioned it to have also been DA dealers(!). They obviously dont want to upset desert aircraft or back a new supplier such as DL, or maybe there is not enough margin in it for them. Time will tell...such a shame...
I also dont know whether the UK 50cc market is big enough for them to bother? surprising really.
For the record I bought mine from Bob at DLUSA...great service!
Cheers
W
PS: As for the standard muffler..it is LOUD! but seems to make the DL breath nicely.....
PPS: I also heard that the reason why the DL is better than that other engine
is because the porting is better, like a DA85..is that true?

Sounds like a plan buddy! I'd love to see some video of that. I have mine in a SD Models 30% Extra 260 with a wet weight of 18 pounds and it has ridiculous power. Hovers at 1/4 throttle. I love this engine!!!

BTW If you don't mind me asking, what do one of these end up costing you by the time you get it in your hands. Do you have to pay import and VAT on them?

VERY NICE!! I used the same choke setup but mine is on the opposite side. Definately looks like a 3D monster! Can't wait to see the video. BTW Woke up to 40mph winds and heavy driving rain![&o][&o][&o][&o]

Lou,
I think i paid $389 which equates to about £193 a few months ago. When i get things from the USA it seems a lottery as to whether i pay import tax or not, for the DL i did not. However i just bought some 5955's from TBM and got stung around $100!

I know they were pretty strict on that stuff when I lived there. We were always having run ins with customs. Sounds like a great deal if you can get a few more through without paying duty on them. LOL I would have thought with the European Community being what it is there would be someone over there selling to all of the Common Market and European Community. That would certainly make it worth their while.

JR has made this switch as long as I can remember, and it is currently 19.75. MPI and others have also come out with similar charge-switches, all competitively priced and have been available for many years.

Hi all;
I'm just about ready to pull the pin and order my DL50. I just wanted to get some opinions on the application:
I have a GP Giant Super Sportster for the motor. Tower "packages" it with a Fuji 32 about which I hear mixed reviews both for running and power for this bird. I didn't get the package, just the plane.
Anyway....is the DL50 too much for this airframe? I guess this is supposed to come out ~13 -14.5 lbs. I'm also looking down the road to maybe another application and the 50cc size plane seems to be much more common than something for the 32.
Comments/advice?
Thanks all!

A friend has the giant super sportster and think you might be hard pressed shoe-horning that engine in there. He runs a ST 2300 and its pretty lively in flight.

CB36,
The engine will be fine in the sportster....just remember you have a throttle stick
You'll probably need taller landing gear for prop clearance. Your concerns about the 32, and applications for it down the road is showing that you are thinking straight about your engine investment. Although the DL50 might require more cowl cutting to make work, and you'll have to watch that left stick...you'll have an engine that can be used an a large number of aircraft down the road. Honestly, the Super Sportster is built pretty tough...moreso than many of the planes that this 50 is being installed on with success.
