RE: Tensor
Do you have to run a outrunner motor on this plane or will a himaxx 2015-4100 work? I have a fancyfoam model now but it has about had it but the motor is still good. I would like to put it on the tensor. Any comments?
Thanks,

RE: Tensor
Hey George, Can you give some advice on exact battery locations for horizontal CG and should I be concerned about vertical CG? One more ? I've always had good luck with a little up thrust and right thrust on foamys would this be smart on my Tensor? I'm all done except for mounting the motor and Batt. PS I'm using the AXI, 730 3 cell set-up you recommend! Good job at the E-TOC and I appreciate your advice!!!! Thanks, Jim

RE: Tensor
Jim,
I like to mount the Tensor battery on the side of the fuselage near to where the instructions indicate. If I could get it higher it would be better but it's more important to get the horizontal CG right than the vertical on this model. The reason for this is that the horizontal CG serves two purposes now...it's a CG for both pitch and yaw because of the SFG's
You won't need any right thrust on this airplane because of the sub-rudder area. The spiral slipstream effects on this airplane are undetectable. For a better explanation read this months 3-D flyer article.
If the vertical CG ends up low for whatever reason you may want some up thrust. I like to mount everything as high as possible or completely omit the landing gear to get the CG right on the thrust line. The roll coupling is most neutral this way as well.
I hope this helps

RE: Tensor
Guys excuse me for my ignorance, George I ordered 2 Tensors for my self, and I am wanting a list of components that you would recommend to complete one of them. On the E-Flight 370 there is a 1080kv and a 1360kv which of the two do I need? In the begining of the post it seems the 180 is what people are using but then they talk about all kinds of other sizes?
Thanks for your help.

I put one together for my brother with the 1080 KV park motor and it does pretty good with a 3 cell pack and a 10X3.8 apc SF. I checked the current at full power and it's drawing around 12 amps static using the 20 amp eflite esc. This is more than the motor is rated for, but as long as it's not held at full power for very long there shouldn't be a problem. The 9X3.8 prop would probably get the current down to the rated level, but the dia. of the prop is too small IMO. This one weighs just under 10 oz. with the TP 830 3s pack.
I'll try a 2 cell setup with a larger prop, but at 10 oz. I don't thing the vertical is going to be very impressive.
It will be very important to keep this plane as light as possible for best flying characteristics.
I hope to fly one with the 1360 motor to see how it compares. I think the 1080 will be the 3S motor and the 1360 will be the 2S motor. Both setups should end up weighing very close to the same depending on the battery. The 1360 would draw more current, so you would have to go to a larger class battery. For example if you used a 730 3S pack on the 1080 you might use a 900 2S (which weighs the same as the 730 3S) for the 1360.

RE: Tensor
Hey Bill - A slow fly 10 4.7 should work well. I've been using the GWS hd (the narrow chord props) in a 10 x 6 size with good results. Either one will work as well as many others. I think so far I prefer the GWS hd props. There is more static thrust available and a faster vertical upline which cleans up vertical point rolls nicely. Either way I think you'll be pleased. Try a few out - It's nice that props for these are cheap! BTW the battery I use is the thunder power 860 2cell.

For those running the AXI 2208/34, what props are you using, APC 10.47?
Thanks

RE: Tensor
Mr Hicks,
Well about running the 2204/54 on a Tensor 4D .. Ive done it and it was ready to fly at 6.5 oz with a 2 cell 340 mah battery. I decided to switch because it was on the edge for power and flight time 4-5 min and it flew but wanted a little more power I think I could have gotten a few more grams out of it and it might have been fine on 2 cells instead of three the vertical is amazing on three cells although way above the draw rating of 6.5 amps max on the motor and it draws 9.5 at full throttle really pushing it but .. you hardly use full throttle. You have all seen the tensor at 10 oz how about 6.9 ?? or before at 6.5 next one will be lighter hopefully.... So it can be done..
look at this thred on the tensor on this page and the next fore some pictures and the proof

I engoy the tensor it flys great, different but i engoy it the most now that i am used to it, great design

RE: Tensor
Hell Guy's
Are any of you using AXI 2208/34 with a Pheonix 10, and if so what prop are you using? I had a 10.47 APC on it and it cuts out after a few seconds of full throttle. Should I go smaller or get another controller?
Thanks
Bill

RE: Tensor
i would bet it has something to do with the programing on your speed controller i dint have the exact set up but i do have that motor on a jeti 8 amp speed controller and a 10x4.7 and i do have a pheonix 10 on my 2204/54 .......what is you battery ??? it might not handle the load if it is an older type battery

RE: Tensor
Your prop is too big for 3s. If you check your current it will be really high. Try going to a 10X3.8 or smaller (as I mentioned above) and the cutting out should go away.
