I just installed my 8611 on my rudder and I can jiggle my rudder, but I can't move it a 1/4". I did notice when I used a 4.8 battery with a low charge I could deflect the servo with little resistance. If you have 1/4" of play I'd say it's not the servo causing it. None of my 8611 have enough lash to allow 1/4" of movement.
Now when I delfect my rudder full left or right, I can push it back the opposite direction a ways. Looking into this problem I noticed my servo mount, servo arm, and the rubber gromets for the servo all bend flex or squish to allow the rudder to blow back. This is in no part due to the servo, but due to to flimsy of a mount, cheap arms and the inherent nature of the rubber gromets. [&o]

Yes, while powered. I can move the trailing edge of my rudder 1/4" in each direction before feeling any real resistance. It's only my rudder, so I will not worry about it unless I have performance or flutter issues. At this time, I am not unhappy with it, just a little shocked to see so much play in a $115 servo. I do not have the case top mod for it, either, but I don't see that fixing it...

I just recieved my 87" Yak today, it sure is purty! Suppose to get my DA50 this friday, I already have my 8611's for it. I hope to have it flying the weekend after the Mempho **** 3D fly-in at the end of this month.

I found one for sale on another Rc site. Have you flown yours yet? I am sure i will like the 87" Yak but absolutely nothing beats the OMP 65" yak. Did you ever get yours feeling confortable?

Got in three more flights tonight.... this thing is fun...... I went to 80% expo on the 3d mode, and that helped tremendously....was too touchy before that.
Has anyone made a Yak for G3??? Would be cool to have one with right colors and similar flying characteristics...

I picked up an OMP 65" Yak from RCU and like it a lot. It really is a good plane. Makes me wonder how much the design of the real Yak influences the characteristics of the models vs. the kit/arf designer. I still have a lot to learn about 3D and flying in general, but I get pretty aggressive with this plane. Need to get the right servos in it to replace the tired servos the builder originally installed. Have an OS 1.8 with the Jerry Smith pipe and that's got great pull out of hover. Done in the exact same scheme as the EF Yaks. I also have the 80" OMP Edge with the MVVS 2.15 gasser and pipe on it. Nice flier. Still, I bought the 65" to teach myself the advanced stuff the EF Yak is capable of doing without the fear of losing the investment in the EF. Come to think of it, I have three Shocky Yak 54's in the EF scheme as well. I guess its just a Yak fixation.

After 10 flights the bottom of my firewall started to come apart. I fixed it the same way Drew did his. I used 3/16 aircraft ply as a doubler. Seems solid now.
I would take a good look at this area to be sure it's ok.

wow is this thread ever gunna die these things look quite tempting for a small plane. I flew it and was very impressed. altho the throttle got stuck at 1/2 throttle on a da 50 so it took 38 minutes for her to die.

Here is the first half of my firewall upgrade. I glued on a firewall doubler just on the lower half - 3/32 aircraft grade ply. Then I'm going to use 1/2" basswood tristock and some CF on the inside.

Exactly what is the technique for applying the CF. Are you using CF that is already laminated or a CF cloth? If using the cloth what do you use to laminate with?

Just finished the cowl, canopy (w/hatch-latch), and wheel pants... whoohooo! Now all I have left is to drill and cut the spinner and finish up the radio/bat gear. Then it's finally time to balance and run in the motor. Probably could have it ready for this weekend, but no point in it... SNOW forecasted this weekend here!!!! [:@][:'(][:@][

I maidened my Yak today. Of course in my normal fashion it is Electric. Nothing like maidening your plane at a public event in front of a pre show croud of 100+. It went off without a hitch. AUW came to 15 pounds. This is with 12 oz of lead in the nose to get it to balance. It flew very nose heavy, so I can start removing lead sticks one at a time until it feels right. 1/4 throttle take off, 1/2 throttle uplines at a good clip. The first few flights have to be conservative to "seat the batterys in". Performance however does not leave me wanting.
Power setup:
Twin Cyclon 160 outrunners ganged on a single shaft
2- Jeti 77a Opto controllers
Dual redundant UBEC system
16s2p 4000mah Thunderpower Pro-lites (8s2p per motor).
We should get some video this weekend.
