Made a little progress last night, here are some pics as promised. I didn't have to modify the tunel because I shortened the header. You could leave it the full 12" and cut a hole at the back of the tunel.

It's looking like yours is coming along nicely. I will be using the front exit canister and I don't think I'll have to cut my header. I wont be able to get to it until next week anyway.

Now I'll assemble the 32oz Dubro fuel tank and mount just ahead of the wing tube.
Since this plane is on cans, I've placed an aluminum or brass tube for the vent line that will run between the cans. The exit is just ahead of the landing gear.

At this point you should assemble the entire aircraft assuming the exhaust is on as well. Be sure to include the prop and spinner because we're going to need to check the CG and mount the batteries and such. CG is approximately 7" back for this purpose.

Now that I've located good positions for the batteries and regulators and checked the balance we'll go ahead and fasten them in. These locations are what I am using for the DA-100 so you may end up further back or foward depending on setup.

Again getting back to the canisters, I don't want the heat from cans going back into the fuse. So...I am going to remove everything in front of the wing tube and cover it with matching Ultra-cote and reinstall. Since all my holes are already drilled, this will give me a very clean looking install.

Side note: I have drilled holes for the zip ties holding the tank in because I am covering the lower deck. Otherwise, it's not necessary.

I just recieved all the extentions today and I now have the canisters for the DA-100. Time to get these finished up and get them out to the feild. Now it's time to get that 85 installed as well. We should have some video of the 100cc up on the web site soon as well.

On another note, I've been getting asked a lot of questions about the DA-85. I will try to get started on the 85 install tomorrow evening or the next. Here is what I have thus far. DA recommends not using standoffs for this motor. If you look at this picture I posted earlier of the motor, I've had some wood base mounts rings made to mount this motor. Since DA provided the template with the motor, it was pretty easy to do. With the eye balling I've done to this point, the carb will be off the firewall just a tad. I still plan on cutting a hole in the firewall for the carb intake. There are other ways to achieve the correct mounting of this motor but this works for me, and looks nice as well.

You shouldn't have to cut the hole in the motorbox. We have several guys flying the DA-50 on warbirds at my field with the carb really close to the motorbox. It runs just fine that way. I don't see why the 85 would be any different

I agree, but there are other reasons for doing so. One, I'll shed a little weight and it will make my throttle easier to install and second, the carb will be taking air from inside the fuse at a more constant pressure. Eric, how far is your carb off the firewall?

Not much about 3/8" I think. I know that some of the other kit manufacturers are recomending cutting out the fire wall for the 85. There is quite a few engine mount sugestions for the 85 on FG. I like WH Toms idea using four 3/4" sq hardwood standoffs and boxing the top and bottom with light ply. He left the sides open for neadle adj. I had made alum. stand offs and have them installed on mine. I'm planning on a redo with this method. I should have mine flying next weekend weather permitting.

Part one of getting the DA-85 mounted. I made a copy of the template DA provided and rechecked the measurements. As with the 100, draw a vertical and horizontal line on the “+�. Cut out the copied template and tape it to the firewall making sure your lines intersect the template. Mark and drill for ¼-20 bolts.

I’ve had wood rings made from the wood that was provided as box insulation for the shippers. You will want the spinner back plate at least 7-3/4� from the firewall or a 1-7/8� base mount for the motor. I’ve been trying hard to have these made locally at the moment but the costs are pretty high here. I am hoping to hear something in the next few days but I would not count on it. If you have a scroll and some time, this is the way to go and you’ll make DA very happy.

I stacked these up until I achieved the correct distance and mounted the motor. The bolt used were ¼-20 3-1/4� long with lock or compression nuts and fender washers. Now I’ll remove the motor and mark the area on the firewall to cut out. CA all the rings together and drill two holes in the mount for the mixture screws. Now I can remount the motor and install the throttle servo and push rod as I did on the 100.

Wow I wonder what that will weigh all CA'd up? If it's light that would rock as a mount. Anything under 5 ounces and you have a winner.

i think da recommends not using standoffs with the 85...... so are these in stock? found a way to get her in my truck also i have not seen in the video of an inverted harrier which i am sure are just as good as uprights so if anyone takes some video please demonstrate that would probably sell me i am between this and the 35% wildhare extra....

Exactly! DA wants this motor fully supported and advises against using standoffs. The ideal setup would be to mount the motor directly to the firewall. However, if we had set this airframe up for the 85, that would be all you could use. While the DA-85 will pull the heck out of this aircraft, the 100cc’s are really what it was designed around. So if you want your motor covered under warranty, I would not use standoffs with the 85.

First and formost it's an Edge. Locking into harriers upright or inverted are rock solid. It does not matter the attitude or trying to find the sweet spot because it’s solid everywhere. Hopefully some of the guys who start flying theirs will chime in soon.

In stock? The planes yes, the motor mounts no. I have someone here trying to get some made at a reasonable cost but I am not sure if it can be done. Herve is working is on getting some from the factory, but it could be some time before we see them.

i am using a da-100 so i dont believe that would apply to me would it? i planned on using the ones from tbm my other question is how much is shipping to the east coast running on these? my wife love the color scheme on the edge so i think that is a big kicker for me lol

Am I supposed to use the long all thread Rod for the rudder horns or the short one. I'm guessing the long. Also what's the final verdict on cuting a hole in the fire wall?

Yes, please the wife...haha. Good old fashion standoffs are fine for the 100. It’s just the DA85 that should be mounted solid. That goes for any plane that you would put the DA85 in.
