Hey Orion09 thanks for sharing that great video. Broken elevator is a bit scary - any idea what caused the flutter and how to correct that problem?

Nice corsair and you seemed to have plenty of power!
I got back in town from Germany this wednesday and have already been to my flying field twice. Recall my discussion on corrosion with the 9-90 a couple of weeks ago. I believe I have an effective program now. You have completed your last flight for the day. Now allow the engine to cool down fully after running the fuel out of it. Then remove one of the bottom most pushrods and follower. Allow the oil to drain. If you have a white bottle cap to catch some of the oil you will see water globules in with the oil. Now remove one of the upper rods and follower. Inject in air tool oil (10 ml) and rotate the prop a few times and soon much oil will drain out the bottom tappet hole. It will still have a few globules but less and the oil will be clearer. Repeat one more time and put the followers back along with the push rods. I can do this even with a cowled engine. The next day the engines were slicker than ever. Just this morning I checked the engine that was run two days ago and yep smooth as silk. This sounds like much work. Took less than 5 minutes and now no worries!! The 9-90 now has 80 flights and is solid as a rock. -Tom

LOOKS GREAT Pete, looks like plenty of power, and sounds great.
well, I took out my Corsair out a few days ago and could not get it to run properly, right after I did two things, I adjusted the valves and used the correct fuel, and l could not get it to run over half throttle, so home I went and tried to change back to the old fuel that I was running before, and still no luck, then realized the only thing next was to check out the valve adjusting, then I realized I had used the wrong feelers gauge thinking that these are the ones I use on my other 4 stroke engines, which are 0.040- to 0.010, so back to the manuel and seen the correct .004- to .006, so I plan on getting the correct gauges tomorrow and re-lash those valves again and hope fully get them right and hopefully run a lot better this week, if it works I will be tickled pink again- Steve

The Microsens on board glow system arrived today. The glow system LiPo battery is in route and the Tru Turn prop hub has been ordered. I hope to have this engine running in just a few weeks now.

Roger
Roger, what size and capacity of the battery are you using for your on board, and how much is this microsens unit, I am using the 10,000 mill. "D" size battery and the Electro Dynamics on board glo system I am wondering how much better is one over the other? and are you using a voltage regulater with the Lipo battery?-Steve

Maybe I can answer this.I used microsens driver, balancer and wires which cost €160 or about $200 us.They recommend a 1s 3600 mAh lipo.I use a 5000 mAh lipo from Tower which is still smaller than a deck of cards.Depending on how long you keep the plugs lit I think it would last for a days flying. No voltage reg.Im new to radials but Im happy with the system.Easy to program but the size of the onboard unlts and battery sold me on it.Heres a pic of the balancer, the wires exiting the bottom go to the glow driver behind the firewall. Pete PS thanks for the link to the decals.

Thanks Tom.Do you have your radial in a cowl and if so did you ever have any overheat issues?

Look at post #11! and no the engine actually runs better on hot days! This corsair does have the curved front fuselage like yours for good cooling and the cowl flaps are molded open which also helps. Just flew it on friday and it was near 90F and the engine could be touched after landing. -Tom

My Microsens system with balancer and plug wires cost approx. $215.00 with shipping. I will be using a 5600 MAH 1S liPo battery. A voltage regulator is not required. I have started assembling a BH Corsair for my engine. It will still be a while before I run my engine but at least it is now in progress.

well, more trouble could not get the engine to run just under half throttle, rechecked the valves and still did not run any better, a friend came over and he determined that sounded like the carb was starving for fuel just below half throttle so, we took the carb off and found that the spray bar was full of crap and plugged solid, could not blow though it or nothing so took a pin and poked through the spray bar and flushed it out and put it back together and man what a difference, runs like a million bucks, even pick up a few RPMs now the 9 cyl, runs the 24x12x2 @ 56-5700 rpms and pulls like a son-of-gun, now its time to rip the sky`s and get those Japs-Steve.

Fuel filters. They are the cheapest insurance. Filter it from the jug to the airplane and from the fuel tank to the carb. It will remove sOme stressful moments from your life.

Does anyone know what size wrench is needed for the nut on the rocker arms of the EVO 7-77 for adjusting the valve clearance?

Roger, The nut size is 5.5 mm. Sears /craftsman sells a little set of metric ignition wrenches which are nice. -tom

well here is the maiden on the Ziroli Corsair (very poor video from my 13 year old) but, is the first flight on a very windy day 15 Gusting to 20 MPH winds, and right down the runway, not a good day to test but doing it while I had the time. a lot was edited out to skip the mostly sky, next time I will get a better video. I was surprized, had more power than I thought, fly`s faster than it did with the Saito 450 3 cyl. and with much more authority, again 93ins. wing 36 lbs. 24x12x2 xoar prop at between 5,500 and 5,700 RPM, robart air retracts, and was very pleased with the performance, I am walking on cloud 9 again. -Steve

Glad to hear it Lars. Here in Indiana we are suffering record temps to 103F and drought conditions. Too hot to fly. Doesn't hurt the radials though. -Tom

Was out today with my ESM Corsair trying a Biella 3 blade 22-10 on my 777 radial.Does anyone want to buy a Biella 3 blade 22-10? Amazing lack of power compared to the 22-12 2 blade I was using.Barely got it in the air.

I know what you mean, Orion09, I have a 22x10x3 zoar, a biela 24x10x4 and a 23x14x4, all for sale, sucks to buy just to try? the 24x12x2 works the best so far on my 999 radial, still looking for the right 3 blade for the Corsair-Steve.
