you could send those pink face dial calipers to OKC they'd look pretty next to the plane you reckon? that reminds me okey has said in many previous posts that he'll take any smelly two strokes for free! if you pay the postage, he may be running something like an old ex racehorse knackery yard or a mangy dog pound for two strokes where everything gets recycled. I think he's said here before he's pretty green.

In my defense most of the 2 cycle engines I have are below a .35. he last batch of 2 cycles I got alas were so corroded neither myself and the 2 best engine resurrections I know could save them. They were buried with full honors due to the years of service. We preserve 2 cycles because frankly one day it maybe impossible to find them to use. We try to pass them along to guys starting out or building on the cheap like the three of us. The way you guys renew old abused Saitos I think sometimes this thread show change it's name to "The Saito Preservation Society"!
Now I have a funny story. For the last week I have been trying to find a piece of red/white Checkerboard covering I had secured from one of my friends for the the tail of the the Pink' N Poke.I knew I had put it someplace safe and easy to find but handy for when I was ready to use it but no dice. The covering had been carried away by evil Ogawa Seiki spirits or been sucked into a spontaneous forming black hole. I was looking into to ordering a roll of covering film (the vendor didn't have the right size squares) when I decided to straighten up the build closet and hopefully find the missing covering. Well long story short I happen to pick up a rolled up piece of paper which I thought was a cut piece from a plan when it unrolled. ***! The paper was the backing of the red/white Checkerboard Ultracote. (Insert banging head into brick wall emote here) I can't use it yet I still have some work to do on Pinky and the Monokote has to go on first. It seems from pass experience you can put Ultracote/Oracote/Sig Koverall over Monokote successfully but not the reverse is bad juju. I have since rolled the covering with the checkerboard facing out.

Dave i think the confusion comes about when you say " except " as in not using a regulator, you can read your comment that way too. Gary thinks they complicate things lonnie but i can't think of a better simple solution to a badly out of position fuel tank that occasionally happens with arf's. You can tune it out to a degree without a regulator but the engine will still catch you out when flying or on finals sometimes, so why not just fit one? there are no extra lines/wires/controls etc and the small flat regulator itself which is part of the fuel line and sits .75" before the carby inlet tube weighs less than a gnats fart.
Saito preservation society does have a certain ring to it, spent five minutes walking around the house this morning looking for my glasses, in the bathroom mirror i saw they were hanging from my t shirt neck, bugger.

It's very simple, when you use a Cline or IronBay regulator, the mixture will not change when you install the engine in a plane, in fact almost nothing will caused it to change. That's why I like them. I've experimented and placed a tank 30" away and 6" low and the engine does not notice.
I can boil it down to, the engine always thinks the tank is only .75" away.

Dave, I've never used a regulator or pump. Are you saying a regulator alone would allow for lengthy fuel lines? I thought pumps were needed for that.

My Laser 180 bulging the Sullivan tank.
In this discussion the pump is a check valve near the muffler pressure tap, since the check valve catches the peaks of the vent pressure pulses, the pressure is considerable. The pressure easily bulges those stiff walled Sullivan tanks. When I had a Saito 2.20 I ordered the crankcase pump system and large carb option with it. I regretted that because all those previous years we all had been cautioning each other to not get carried away using too long of a vent tube and restricting the vent flow. With that system you restricted the vent flow to make pressure for the tank. The Iron Bay regulator was perfect for the 2.20 with either carb.

Pete, more than just complication.Those weed whacked carb bits on glow installations are busy, bulky messes. In 99.99% of the installations they are readily avoidable with a little planning early on.
When not, there is a neater solution that affords usually more power at less weight and with far cleaner installations. The overall running I excellent as well. Heresy for those who have tried and failed perhaps but sheer pleasure for others
Clean and neat. Great power, awesome idle and perfect transition. You can put the tank anywhere you please.

i told you y’all about running this Saito 100 that came to me in parts. I noticed that in vibrated a lot when it was running. Just thought it was the board that have my engine stand screwed too. Or out of balance prop. But like a light bulb in the middle of the night “and yes I think and dream about Saito’s in the night “ it came to me that I need check the crank and sure enough you could see the end of the crank move up and down just by turning it on the engine.
this engine is worthy of a new crank so I put one on backwards order with Horizon. Like I need to do that. I do have a 100 that needs to be cleaned up. I could still it from
there.

Yep, it is new. Got it on a trade for a Sig Rascal.
Spent over $80 on shipping last month just for the pleasure of giving stuff away! LOL
I love those foldy flat rate boxes.
Hope my CARE package packing was not to troublesome for the recipients.
Can't give it away but I sure would like to move the 100 along and use the funds to secure a YS 91AC

yeah I get some boxes that you just end up cutting the top off.
if some people would add a little more packing and not quite some much tape would be cool. But we are Dealing with the postal UPS FedEx shipping people and I swear they use the package for a soccer ball.
No tape on this one, it's strictly stock and on the way.

regulators,
that Magnum 180 4st I had was highly sensitive to fuel levels, every thing in my mind told me a regulator would fix the problem, I never found out if I was correct in thinking that. I was thinking the engine would have to run fatter to pull the fuel with a regulator, therefore at lower fuel levels the engine would not go as lean,,, again, I never found out.
I had a couple guys that had been in the hobby years and years longer than me tell me a regulator will not help without a pump or very good tank pressure, today that makes good sense to me.
I do know the YS and OS Heli engines that come with regulators pressurize their fuel tanks from the back plate and use a one-way valve. to add, I now can say that I do remember the sound I heard when my friend would release the pressure from his Helii's fuel tank (the engine was the YS 80), the tank was very well pressurized.
edited, the OS 4st's that come with a regulator also come with a pump,,, the plastic pump don't cost much, only an arm and a leg, $80.
