But, you're forgetting that in the single crank engine no two components are moving the same direction by the same amount. The 90TS has rocking couple that the single crankpins don't have.

On the single crank throw engine ALL reciprocating components are moving in the same direction!

Barry, I just called Jim telling him about a great gift I received in the mail today, a brand new Saito .65. It has a P on the right lug, it has a metal throttle arm and a choke. The choke will quickly be replaced with a velocity stack. I'm happy. I will run it as soon as the weather improves, moocho rain right now.

I have a Saito FA 200Ti & it fits the 83'' Brian Taylor Mk I-V colw (from VICRR/C) W/about 1/8'' to spare on the front intake rocker cover.

I have a 200ti and want to install it on a p-51, but not sure what plane this engine would fit with.

Jim, I called about the 65. Just another engine that needs the valves adjusted. He said there was nothing else wrong with it. Maybe better luck next time......

Picture #1 shows engine as prestine and clean as always, #2 is valves both at a very slightly loose .004", picture #3 is Saito feeler guage at exactly .004" as it should be. Velocity stack already mounted.

I'm assuming thats a spitfire but couldn't find a 83'' brian taylor MK I-V but did find a spitfire VIII and IX on bhplans. I figure they are the same just a little different versions. Do you know how much your plane weighs and what the wing area is? From what I can find it looks comparable to the TF giant mustang, it has a 84.5 inch wingspand and a 1245 sq/inch wing area and weighs between 18-23 lbs. Do you think your spitfire is pretty close to this size, and if so how does she fly? TF says the smallest glow to use is a 2.1 ci and i know the 200ti is only .1 off the minimum recomended engine, but ive read where people say the 200 ti doesn't make near the same power as a 2.0 cu/i single cylinder glow. Thanks for the help.

You can get the Mk I-V cowl & accessories to convert the Mk IX from Vic R/C. http://www.vicrc.com/product_spitfire.htm
The Mk I-V has a shorter nose. I beleive those were the Merlon powered versions. The Mk-IX etc were powered by the Rolles Royce Griffon, a much larger engine hence the longer nose.
The 200Ti should be limited to about 15# - 18# airframe on glow ignition. Converting to spark will allow a few more #s. Spark ignition will increaes power about 6%-8% while allowing 25% less fuel load for the same flight time. The BT Spitfire is a very light build if the plans are adhered to. It is designed for a 120 4-stroke.
The 200Ti is an even firing twin. The crank throws are 30* apart so both cylinders are @ TDC @ the same time. One @ TDC compession, the other on EX/IN. Any standard "twin" ignition module W/1 trigger magnet/hall sensor will fire the engine properly.
RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
okay thanks man i guess i should be sticking with the esm arf it looks like, it has a 72 inch span and calls for a 120 size engine. i was afraid that the giant tf mustang would be to much,
I figured that was the case with your spitfire, I'm not real familiar with spits but I know that they made a lot of versions that were powered by a variety engines and varying horsepower. I have a tf spitfire kit that im going to build but plan to go with a dle 20 or a rcv engine. I was just looking for a mustang for this engine since the mustang is my favorite. I also have a saito r3 170 that I am going to put on my gp super stearman, seems like there are a few of those already out there and i thought it would be cool

Sorry Hobbsy, but that micrometer is reading 0.006" NOT 0.004" so the feeler gauge must betoo thick?

That Richard Petty card is a gift from my gandson Jake who lived with us for 30 months, I really miss him, but being back with his Dad and having his Mom and Dad back together is a good thing. Anything that involves a ball will work for him.
RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Hi Dave. Hope all is well with you. I hope you are able to join us at he FARRC Warbirds Over Fredericksburg event this Fri, Sat and Sun this coming weekend. Mac Hodges and his B-29 and X-1 Rocker will be there among a lot of other pilots.
Another topic. I just got a Saito FA 130T in a Balsa USA 1/4 scale Spacewalker. Basically an new ARF plane although well built from the kit and nicely covered ala the FS prototype. The engine is not new but appears in good shape. It has been run by the PO, but likely not optimized. I would like for your expertise in fine tuning it when i get to that point. It may not be until later in the summer, and I can drive to Colonial Beach for that occasion. A question for now however. Are the jugs on the 130T the same as on the FA65? Comparing the two the differences appear to be the location of the intake, with the 130T having the intake on the side vice the back on the 65. So, not interchangeable, but otherwise the same?
Looking forward to seeing you this weekend, I will likely be there all day Saturday and part of Friday. Email me if you like more detail.
Very best regards,
Dick Smith

Hobbsy, no worries. It's just my details-oriented, pedantic nature showing through.
Special times for you and Jake. I know what that's like...

Jim, in further comparing the .62 and the .65 I measured the carb barrel venturi, they are exactly the same at a fraction over 6mm.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
OK Jim et al, I did my usual 50 minute, actually 60 this time, break in.
Saito .65 plain
Prop==Master Airscrew K 13x6
Fuel first 30 minutes WildCat 10% Premium with castor added to bring up to 20% lube
Fuel 2nd 30 minutes WildCat 15% Premium Extra, brand new jug.
Plug===Fox Miracle
Picture #1 is the beginning of the 21 to 30 minute run at 6,000 rpm, at 30 minute mark rpm had increased to 6,550
Picture #3 is idle not quite optimised yet.
Picture #2 is top rpm about 100 rpm below peak.
Picture #4, look Ma no castor stains, ain't Teflon Tape wonderful stuff.
This engine had really mushy compression unrun, at the 30 minunte refuel it was normal for a Saito, no leak off when flipped slowly.
Lets hope I got the pictures in the correct order.
