Hey All . . . Belated Happy Fathers Day

Has anyone used a Klein or IronBay regulator? Only lets fuel thru on demand.

Cougar429,

The muffler can make a major difference in performance. The chamber size and back pressure will have an affect on stability, fuel flow, and performance through all rpm ranges.

Richard,
I believe the boat anchor you are referencing is the "AAC" Hemi Head, the original 1.20 four-stroke by Saito. I have two and I think that engine code is "L".

I have used both, you'll love not having to run the engine over rich at the beginning of a flight so it won't go lean as the tank empties. When using the Cline or IronBay the engine runs exactly the same from full tank to empty

Dang Richard, that OPS will bust you every time, I would run a 15x8 just like for a 1.20.

C man, I think that the lack of back pressure was the problem, I'm going to run it some and mount a TurboHeader, I try the fat muffler again though.

I have a Saito .91 4 stroke in my P-51D Mustang, after some work on the engine and setting the timing, man does it sound awesome, it pulls the mustang through the air with no problem.. Can't wait to get a 1.20 Saito

This will be my first time replacing bearings so any tips or advice will be appreciated. I'm going to disassemble the engine and check for wear before I order anything. If I find problems within the engine I might not use it. I have a Saito 125 I could put in the plane but that would require a new mount and additional nose weight.

You are going to love that plane. Very very fast
Tracks so well

Point it
And it goes in that direction.

Mine flew over 20 times
Until I decided to fly inverted 30 feet hifh
And I used up elevator to try to make plane climb

Oops
Big mistake

Love that plane

Enjoy

The sundowner 36? Which engine did you use?

smkrcflyer, I find this true for any engine, (and pretty much covers all mechanical things): Care upon disassembly is important to prevent damage to the casing and other parts to be reused, but reassembly is where the make or break happens. I also find on average reassembly takes a minimum of 3 to 4 times as long.

Specific to Saito I found some good reading available online:

The Complete Saito Notes from Bill Robison:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_5843055/tm.htm

Here's a Powerpoint presentation showing the 91 in step-by-step format. Uses the 91, but should be useful for yours as well:

http://www.authorstream.com/Presenta...pt-powerpoint/

For some reason I cannot access an article written by a fellow Canadian, Andrew Coholic. Had some great info on the evolution of these motors with all the good and bad points, (yes, there are a few). If anyone has an active link to the FlyRC article on 4-stroke Howto it would be appreciated.

I would like to study the developement timeline of Saito engines.

ANY links for that type of info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, thank you ver’ much, but I think the “L†code would not be much help for the true ABC and air bleed carb nature of my 120. Attached pic shows it and it’s “gold†rocker covers which I understand were original to this version.

“still lookingâ€

Uh oh, it looks like, "pliarboy mechanic" got hold of your engine, you should hunt him down and do bad on im. Pliars should be tossed over the fence so your farmer neighbor can plow them under.

This is the last of the old style straight 120 Saitos. It has a newer style air bleed carb but the low lift cam and the none mushroom lifters.

After this they were called the 120S

Here, I fixed that for you.

''plierboy mechanic''

I have an FA91 that I needed to use the pliers on. I was having problems W/ my (non-locking) spinner nut coming off so I used a dab of blue lock-tite on it.

Unfortunately, I used a bit too much & it got into the prop nut threads. Once the prop nut came off far enough that the propeller would no lnger hold the crankshaft from turning, the nut was still offering some resistance so I had to resort to the pliers to hold the prop hub to allow the prop nut to be run the rest of the way off.

I will never make THAT mistake again. I guess I should buy a new prop hub so that nobody ever sees my "plierboy mechanic" scars eh?

The plier marks on the prop driver hub is almost as embarrassing as leaving your zipper down and the unmentionable hanging out or having a piece of toilet paper hanging out from the top of your pants in the rear.

Some years ago I had both my knees replaced and an operation on my back. I was stiff as a board and moved very slowly. A friend, not known to be very mechanical, was getting his airplane ready to for us to go to the field. He mentioned to himself "Let me get a pair of pliers to tighten the prop". I came flying out of the chair saying "Hell no - not pliers" . When I looked at his hand, he was possessing a Crescent wrench which I guess he was referring to. He said that he had never seen me move so fast.

Good one SR. here's what I did to an engine I bought that had been pliarboyed, I found a bolt that precisely fit the small end of the taper and put a nut on to hold the prop driver against the bolt head. Then I chucked it up in my ancient drill press, put the belt drive in the highest speed. I then held some very fine 000? sandpaper up against it and like magic the pliar marks went away. It then had a really shiny edge.

I saw the remains of a Saito drive washer at the hobby shop that was so bad I hate myself for not taking a picture of it. It had maybe half a dozen places where the owner tried to get a bite with a hacksaw, or blade of some sort. There are plier bits all around the circumference. He got one cut done all the way through most of the way. I don't think I'll see worse damage than that.

I'm going to cover it W/a magnetic trigger ring for a C&H Electronic ignition system.

That's the best way to hide it!
