Recently I placed an order of $ 330.00 with QTH, quickly I found that this shop has a very strange way of working and soon enough my alarm senses were telling me I was in trouble ( no e-mail responses, no real phone to discuss my order status, etc )
I read this forum and this was my solution:
Called my credit card bank and explained to them the complete situation, they double check that QTH still hadn´t charge my card so they just reported my card as a LOST CARD, no one will be able to charge anything to it and I will receive a new plastic in no more than 10 days. Now I will place the order with a good online shop and I will sleep better........

YESTERDAY 01 December 2010 I received an e-mail from Quick Tech Hobby ( Larry ) telling me this: Your order has not been processed
The credit card was not accepted and cannot be put into the "system"
See order below:
This is normally due to a typo on the credit card number or expiration date.
Please try the order again with the corrected information.
If you have any questions please contact Customer Service
or the Hobby Shop Network
Thank You for shopping with QTH and Replica RC
QTH Customer Service
Poor guy, right now I am FINISHING my Seawind yatch that I ordered from RCBoyz after I reported my card LOST so that I won´t be scammed by QTH!

I wonder what Customer Service or Hobby Shop Network is he damn talking about, why the heck he did not answer my emails before I decided to report my card lost?
I TELL YOU WHY: He just wanted MY money.

I don't understand how someone could be allowed to continue stealing from people for so long. it makes no sense to me.
As I understand it, the current laws say you cannot charge a person's credit card unless the product is ready to be shipped to them.
But before the current law, a store could charge your card and ship when the item was ready. I suppose he was using that method, and simply never shipping the item as it would stay on backorder forever of course.

The typical scenario is that someone is looking for some hard to find, out of production item. The item is still listed on this site and Google, or what ever, picks it right up.
So the customer orders the out of stock plane or part and it is charged on his credit card. It has been that the card is sent though immediately. There is never going to be a part to ship. After a couple months it is too late for a charge back. Larry keeps the money, doesn't answer the phone and doesn't reply to any Emails.
Occasionally someone orders a common current item and Larry sends it right out - mark up one legitimate transaction - the customer is happy.

w8ye - I hope your right about the current items! I ordered an item (advertised at a substantial savings) within the last couple of weeks and recieved an e-mail that my account would be charged and that I would recieve another e-mail with the tracking info when it shipped. Still awaiting the second e-mail, started getting an uneasy feeling so I went back to the site to reread the contact instructions. While googling QTH - I stumbled onto this thread - I've progressed to feeling sickened. I don't stand to loose as much as some of you out there but in these times (and I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation) I don't have anywhere near the funding I'd like to keep progressing in this hobby and this represents a major setback for me. I'll be checking with the bank tomorrow to see how to proceed, just wish I'd stumbled onto this prior to placing my order! (Intentionally vague just in case I was going to recieve an order.)

Well I guess I blew that one! (first post - didn't think about profile info) If he reads these he'll know which orders mine - I suspect there aren't too many orders from my neck of the woods. Anyway - Balsa USA Taube .40 , $75.00 vs $95.00 I know, If it sounds too good to be true... (just try'n to get the most out of my RC cents)

<a name="Question9">Can mail-order merchants charge my card before they ship?</a>
According to Janet Hug of Visa USA, "a merchant is not permitted to bill ahead of time" except in case of a deposit or down payment that the customer agrees to. (phone call from Visa USA, 12 May 1992)
MasterCard said in a letter that a merchant can charge you before shipment only if s/he tells you and you agree to "the terms and conditions of the sale."</p> American Express said the merchant can charge your card as soon as you give your account number; but if you receive the bill before the merchandise, call Amex customer service and you don't have to pay while they investigate. (phone call to Amex, 16 May 1992)

I wonder if anything changed since they determined this information.<br type="_moz"/>

We are e-Tailers catering to the Cox fan community. 100% do we debit a buyer's credit card before shipping. That is not only industry standard but the only practical way to proceed.
The buyer adds items to his/her cart, proceeds through checkout and pays via credit card. Subsequently, we process the order and ship. The difference here is that we ship within one business day; in the vast majority of cases same day as order placement.
I am proud to say that we have never, ever, had a credit card chargeback. With over 30,000 items per year sold, this speaks for itself.
Personally, I recommend buyers set up a Paypal account and pay with such. Additionally, fund the Paypal payment with a credit card. This method is pretty well 100% bullet-proof against unethical sellers.
If you get taken, simply contact your card issuer and, with alomost 100% certainty, a transaction will be reversed.

Quick Tech Hobby lists a lot of planes that have been out of production for quite a while. One example is the cermark Javelin II.
I wouldn't buy from the guy.

I wish I would have searched this site before I ordered from quick tech hobby but it was after the fact when I didn't get my order. I payed with a credit card so I was able to be my money back but I have such a hard time believing this guy didn't respond to one of my emails or phone calls. I ended up turning him in to everyone I could think of including the FBI. This guy needs to go down!
