Dick,
If you think your reply will be a long one, do it in a word processer and the copy and paste it into the reply box. An added benefit is that the word copy will check your spelling and you can save it and not worry about timing out.

Just contacted my friend who made the balancers, and unfortunatley he does not have any more as he sold all he had made. Sorry gang I tried! He was pleased that many of you wanted one though...

Thanks for checking in to this for us. If your friend would be interested in selling plans, please let us know. What ever kind of build you want to call it, doesn't matter to me. The end result would be a great balancer.

I would like an ARB, Almost Ready to Balance
I will try to build one based off the pics and scale it up a bit. I have some BIG planes. Looks like a fine balancer.
Looking forward to some pics of your plane all finished up and ready to fly VJ.
Later!!
Anthony

RE: Sig Ryan STA
My techno wizardry is beyond description sometimes but thanks for the tips. Anyway,I wanted to pass on some details with cockpit combing and crash pads. I use old wallet leather and even recycled some USAAF WWII Sheepskin Fight Jacket Welting on my Ryan YPT-16. The orig stitching although not very scale even served well.
As a note of possible interest - the civ ST's only had crash pads from what I've seen form orig photos. The military installed crashpads complete with cockpit combing and the PT-20's even had turnover masts poking up through the front windscreen.
Take care and keep the RPM's up,
Dick

Nice photos Dick! I enjoyed viewing them... Hmm, wallet leather another good idea and another good use. I like the old leather of gloves ,wallets or in Tom's case purses because the leather is very thin and being well used is very pliable.
These late nights at work are killing me...when I get home I'm crawling for the bed! It sucks to get older...

Capt Easy, I do all my typing in a word program then cut and paste into the thread. I started doing thisafter having the same issue. Vince, my apologies for getting distracted on the whole building, arf, whatevernonsense. As I've said before this has been one of the most informative, civil, and well documented threads ever, and I will not letthis happen again. Are you going to wait until your 100% finished before the maiden? Good luck with your competitions, my wife teaches also and this is getting to be crunch time for her also, she will be done by June 5th.

Thanks Cliff. These competitions really take it out of me... My last day is June 7th .
While I've not completed PR it will not stop me from maidening it before being completed. Still need to start engine and get a couple of tanks run through. Nothing major. Of course the weather needs to cooperate as well.

Sorry for the inactivity, but as I said this is the last week of training for my students. The amount of time spent on thisis almost overwelming. I did manage to get out on Sunday and fly a bit. It felt so good. If I can figure it out I will try to get a short clip together showing the control surfacemovements of PR.I have never posted a video before...

Well all there is left is the maiden, which I will post when that does happen. There are a few odds and ends to finish but nothing large.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you that have faithfully followed this thread. I hope together we all learned a few things while on this journey... I know I have. Frommy first post I had stated what my goals for this build were and I think I can say that I have met them all. This buildwill reward those that are willing to commit the time and energy. I won't lie, it's not any easy plane to put together, but I hope that this thread will make your build easier as there is now documentaton for you to reference.
I will continue to monitor this thread and answer any questions that are asked, but all good things have to come to an end. This build has offered me the opportunity to meet with you all every evening and share my experience with you, I can't tell you how important that was for me....
My next build will showcase the Sig Spacewalker which will probably start sooner than later. I will post a link here for those of you that are interested. I look forward to sharing our next adventure together, until then build when you can and fly as much as you can...

I just got home from a very hectic two days of competing, it was all worth it as you can see...
I can break in my engine now that the state competitionsare over as I now have to gear up for training for the Nationals....

RE: Sig Ryan STA
Congratulations also Vince. No good deed goes unpunishedYou need not spend a lot of time breaking it in on the ground. just get her tuned if for a reliable idle and good transition and then fly it a little rich for the first gallon. I just had a needle bearing go bad on the engine on my Ryan. I heard this screeching sound coming from the engine one day as it flew past so I grounded her and tore down the engine last night and low and behold I found 2 of the rollers in the bearing came out of their places and there was all kind of slop in the connecting rod. A new bearing costs all of a 1.50 but Idon't know why it failed, it looked a lttle cooked though because some of the rollers were blue from heat. I have run it always at 32:1 and never really that hard. Oh well I'm glad it didn't throw a rod and ruin the engine.
