Do any of you Vermonters know of an area near St Johnsbury, VT where a park flyer could be flown? I will be visiting a dear elderly friend who'd like to see a model fly but can't travel far. Google maps shows some baseball fields nearby but I didn't know if they were accessible. The AMA clubs listed seem quite far away.
Thanks for your help.

The rain had stopped but is back again today. Stopped by the Guildhall Fun Flyers of Vermont on Memorial Day after visiting a family friend in St Johnsbury, but it was flooded and you couldn't get past the gate even if you wanted to. Mt. Washington and it's neighbors were spectacular though on the way out and back. The rain and wind has kept me grounded for a while and my second hand Ryan still isn't ready for flight anyway. If the poor weather keeps up maybe I'll work on it this weekend.

Jay, the weather here has been the same as well. I haven't been able to maiden my Ryan due to weather issues. Wind, rain, cold, all of the above

Yes, I saw that over on your build thread. Great looking plane and I bet it's a lot of fun (after your knees stop shaking!)
I still have my Ryan to finish up. It got pushed back by another plane this Spring that is finished and flying and now I've got another new one from a club auction to finish up. So many planes, so little time. I also got some float flying in last evening with perfect conditions.
This weekend is the Propsnappers Club open house and 50th anniversary so I'll be doing lots of flying this weekend (WACO ARF, Skybolt Great Planes kit built and Cermark Pitts ARF)

For all you inquiring minds here is a picture of the custom main gear, work in progress, for my Ryan SC-W. The gear has a custom built Oleo type strut for smooth landings. The mount is not pictured but is machine from aluminum with the socket for the strut drilled to allow for the wing incidence as well as the 17 degree forward rake of the gear. A fillet will be added the the area between the pant and moving strut cover. The wheel is a Williams Brothers wheel and the pant is from Fiberglass Specialties. The oleo strut, mount, and strut cover are from Lee Robinson from Robinaire. I have added a photo of the full size plane for comparison.

Any word from VJ on the maiden of "Private Ryan" or did I miss it?
I know he's working on a Spacewalker now, but the weather has been pretty nice in the Northeast this last week. I've been able to get quite a bit of flying in and maidened a new plane myself (not the Ryan I'm working on) this past weekend.

No maiden as of yet Jaybird. The weather has finally turned and its been nice for a change! Between projects around the house and my Spacewalker build I haven't had time for poor Private Ryan. , but I assure you she will fly before summers end...

I have to share this. I have future plans to build a Ryan from plans and of course that means having to find all the components that are not available. The cowl and pants are available but all those nice plastic parts that come with the kit are not. Well a fellow RCU (yel914) member has just sent me his first go at vac-forming. He made molds for all those plastic parts and copied them. They look real good, clean and neat, like he had done it before. So Thank You Yel914! Very nice work. And very generous of you to take the time.

Vincent,
Any news on the maiden? It's getting close to the building season here in Mich. and I am anxsious to start the my Ryan build. I'm very curious as to how she flys with the DLE 20?

Sorry Tom, no maiden as of yet. I just finished my Spacewalker and maidened it. I am sure the DLE-20 will give this plane the power it needs to do just about anything you ask of it. I'm hoping that Cliff (Raptureboy) will post the photos of Private Ryan soon...
