For what it's worth (from my experience): when adding a diagonal for torsion (warp) resistance; the greater the height dimension of the diagonal member, the greater the torsional stiffness added to the structure.
More torsional stiffness is added when the diagonal member extends the full depth of the airfoil.

Moot point now as I built a completely new aileron. So far so good even with two coats of Balsa Rite.
Looking about, I found my two rolls of Super Shrink Coverite. One white , the other Cub yellow. A mere 15 or better years old kept in it's plastic sleeve and it hasn't stuck to itself. Even that, I'll pour on some adheasive. 30 feet each, it is a save of all saves. I wonder what else I have that I've forgotten about.
fuse decovering and am finding little damage from impact. Seems the gear took a lot of energy and passed little back. Upper cabanes are straightened and a few stringers scarf joints reglued. I'm impressed but I'm gearing up for the one piece lower wing details to be worked out.
Cheers

Nice color scheme Bassbug.
I found some K2R to suck the oil out of the balsa. Stuff still works good but, now, it has a nice aroma. One coat and brushed the rest. I'm also scrapping much of the epoxy layer I used to fuel proof the firewall area. After 20 plus years, it had softened a bit making removing with a sharp chisel a bit easier.
I'm still thinking the mechanics of how to remove the bottom wing attach structure. The pix, if one can make it out, shows some penciled ideas. Got to beef the inside before any cutting so nothing gets out of alignment. Most doable.
Top wing is ready to glue up but I need some more working space on my boards.
Pix upload has hit a snag. I'll put them up when I figure this out.

Kinner, is the K2R an in shop find or is it available on the market? Haven't seen any around here for many years. Great stuff ! I have not flown my N2Y-1 yet, too many sidetracts and fixes.

The smaller 1/6 scale Concept fleet has the bolt-on one-piece lower wing design. The center section of the wing does not have an airfoil shape but has the main spar and support structure to carry from one side of the fuselage to the other. The fuselage has a rectangular notch for the spar and cross plate so that it keeps it's internal structure rather than a traditional wing saddle. You may be able to use the wing panel design you have and modify it in this manner. I can't send pictures as mine is on display at a local shopping mall for the winter. I do have the plans though and could upload a picture of the area if it would help.

I found my K2r from Ace Hardware. $5 a can and it seems to work better than the older stuff. Go figure.
I may have to orderup a new fiberglass cowl as my lower part took a lot of abuse. The impact shoved it off with enough energy and sheared the crank case drain nipple off at the case. Getting harder to find parts for old engines.

Still playing with ideas and wood before I start cutting up and risk some thing that may make more work if I just go off willy nilly and start sawing up a perfectly good fuselage.
I'm still plan on using the already existing wing splice boxes within the fuse. A matter of beefing up the internal structure before cutting the box out. Then , I'll use the wing box as a major mount and glue the wings at the 4 degree dihedral angles. Attach to the fuse will be two locator dowel pins and nylon screws ala Top flight Kits.
The balsa piece is a template to insure both sides are identical as I can make them. 1/2" dowel flows through the fuse and out the other side.
Color will be AN Orange/Yellow and will look like the 16B Finch used by the RCAF. I may even put the full canopy over the cockpits.

Okie Dokes, getting closer to cutting the fuselage out for the wing plug that will connect the two wing halves.
I had more pix but somehow my 'puter won't download them all.
Cheers

Ray,
Here is what my Fleet looked like when I acquired it. The original builder did the one piece wing set up for both top and bottom. As you can see, the rear landing gear block is in the fuse in front of the leading edge of the wing! Bad, bad! I relocated the LG block to the proper scale location on the wing. The wing dowel pins were OK so I left them alone. Cleaned up and replaced the center section sheeting and made sure everything was smooth.
