Hi

Well ,.......... I tiered ,..................... when I start loseing things in the shop it,s time to quite .

Hi Zor ,............ I enjoyed that as much as you did , the guy takes great photos .

I worked on the wire posts , hold downs . I made them 1/4 inch the length of the arch . There still not finished , and I,m not sure what I want to do next , most likely , make them more rounded . The exhausts don,t look too bad . I just took an elastic , to hold them in place .

Michel ___

Your picture #9 is scary ___
You should know better than point a gun straight at me (and all readers).
You may also break your camera lens.

It is a good thing that the pilot is sitting too low to be able to aim properly.

I dread the moment this pilot lines up his vision to aim that gun.

Hey ___my imagination is having fun today ___
I just solved two problems I encountered building my Spectra sailplane.

Looks like a nice day to enjoy and hope it is the same for you.

Careful now ___do not break the bank with your Xmas shopping.

Oh! ___what you lost in the shop has not moved; just look where you last placed it. The gremlins just put it back where it was. Hee hee ! ___ Ha Ha ! LOL

Had to show my Elder built in 2007. Covered with Coverite iron on fabric and painted with Krylon. Its electric powered.

Thanks, its my interpretation of an Eindecker. I mixed a couple of squadrons into one design. Everything is painted on.

It has a 42-60-700 motor, 60A ESC and runs on a 4 cell 5000Mah lipo. The only issue is that it has so much drag, flights are a little shorter than the same power system in just about anything else.

Michael Gravelle, Are you still working on the Elder? We haven't had any Elder updates from you since before Chrismas. You must be near completion by now, or has everything frozen solid up there. There I go again making rude remarks about the Canadian weather. I tried to get your goat about the snow early last fall (and you ignored it) being all smug here in sunny/warm Georgia. Well, what goes around comes around. We have had two real snow storms this year with 2"-5" covering the ground and the weather forcast is for 1"-3" in the next 48 hours. At least I got to fly off snow for the first time (with floats for skis). Give us an update when you can.

SPRING AT LAST! Just maidened my Elder this past weekend. Flew great off our lousy untouched field and lands so nice.
Weighs 5lb 13 oz w/an OS56a, wire wheels and painted (solartex/fiberglassed fuse). Used pull/pull for controls instead of the heavy pushrods. This engine w/13x6 prop is perfect for flying around at 1/2 throttle putsing around.
My only question is i needed a lot of up elev. trim to maintain level flight as if it's very nose heavy. Balanced dead level at 3 1/2" back of leading edge as suggested. Anyone else find theres nosing downward. Will post a pic when I get a chance. I grabbed this kit for a quick build and I turned it into a project. Well worth the time. Nick

Nick,

I don't recall ever having a nose heavy attitude with this plane, just move the CG slightly to adjust.

Hello hatnikman3,

Your symptoms are not necessarily a matter of CG location.

Check the decalage angle main wings to stabilizer.

The up elevator may be needed to provide a necessary angle of attack of the main wings.

Might be worth also to check any washin of the main wings.

I thought of that also Zor but the angle of the stabilizer is actually .5 degrees postive already (wanting to push tail down). I am going to add a little tailweight and see what happens. Cheers, Nick

Hi Nick,

Adding some ballast (weight) near the tail will no doubt reduce the amount of up elevator needed.

I regret I cannot agree with the rest of your posting.

Hi guys

Yes ,................. it,s been a while .

Right ,..... I,ve restarted this thread because , I,m goin to finish up my Elder ,...... FINALLY . I,ve built 4 planes since I,ve started it , sorrry , 5 planes . Now it ain,t comeing off the board .

Here are some of the mods I have made . First , I pinned the tail feathers , they looked way too weak for me , and this won,t add any weight . The control rods will be of carbon fiber , in a smaller diameter , much lighter , and I wanted to see the rods work , looks cool . The fuse has been glassed , and will be painted wth automotive poly and a gloss clear . Absolutly fuel proof , I will be covering the front with a chrome of some kind . The face of the cowl is rounded , I couldn,t take haveing it flat . The engine will be a Saito 56 , with a 14 oz tank , long flights . The saito will be inverted , and I might have to add a glow driver , but performance will decide that . The wing has been glassed in the center , covereing the first bay completly , the one that is balsa covered . The blocks , that the wing wire goes through , has been drilled , and slightly coned to accept the wire . The wire will be kevlar Vinyl coated , along with the wire at the rear of the fuse . The covering for the wing will be Solartex fabric . It will also cover the tail feathers . The throttle servo is a mini and the ballance will be Hitec,s 425 BS . Very ordinary servos , plenty for the purpose .

I will be posting pictures soon , as progress will proceed , I,d say with the next 3 to 4 weeks .

Any flights reports would be appreciated .

Hope you all have a good summer

Thanks for looking in .

Michel

Hi

Well ,......... I,ve been installing the tail feather control rod , and following the plan . In the plans the show to put the rudder rod high , towards the top of the fuse . The plans are not showing completely the positions of both rods at the same time . After the tail rod was installed , as high as possible , I found that the elevator rod would be touching the rudder rod . Set the rudder rod as low as you possibly can , this will insure that the rods won,t touch . I,m surprised someone didn,t mention this in there build .

Will add pictures later .

Hey Michel.

Un hobby est pour relaxation. Il n'y a pas de raison pour se depecher

No reason to rush .

The pictures reflect a very meticulous builder; that is nice.

It is becoming a very beautiful model.

Hi

Little up-date .

I was lookig at the wire landing gear and decided that I didn,t want wire showing on the model .

Soooo , .............. I decided to cover the landing gear with a wood covering . It,s not too shape as of yet but , it should come out alright ,............... at the least better than the wire . I think the wood will bring out the wheels better .

Hi

Absolutely ,.............. it will flex . The landing gear is made of 1/8 piano wire ,.............. very easily to put back into it,s place . I did think about this , and decided to stay with the 1/8 wire , ...................... because it,s easily repaired . This plane will only be flown on the best of days . I want it to be a keeper

The geometry of this landing gear will allow very litle flexing if the four struts are cemented in the fuselage.
