RE: Eagle 2 ARF & 4 Stroke Engine?

Tom that's my fear with my current engine. Last year when my brother and I with very limited knowledge and experience finally got my engine started, we were able to lean it out then back it off.

This year I had someone else fiddle with it, worked fine then someone else fiddled with it making sure the story I told about stalling and 'hard landing' wouldn't happen again. It seemed a bit lean so I retuned it but after that day never seemed to tune correctly. I lean it out until it stops whinning louder like you are supposed to but the SLIGHTEST bit too much and it will shut down. Then I try to back it off waiting for the whinning to lessen a bit denoting a decrease in rpm and a slightly rich running as you are supposed to...but I turn and turn and turn and nothing seems to happen so I just kinda guestimate. The engine idles very nicely and starts decently now, but when I go to take off it sputters very bad then finally 'catches' and that's every flight for me! Takes me 1/3 the runway just for it to catch then go throttle up. If I lean it out it seems to be running too lean and if I go full power if will stop. It's almost like I am stuck with this running like this at least for the first flight until it gets warmed up and gets some of that previous flights goop out. Each time I fly is a bit different also. If I cut the throttle all the way I can do a nice landing one day, then the next I have to land with throttle trim to keep it from coming in too hot. Other days I have to keep one notch up on the throttle and trim throttle almost all the way down. It's actually kinda fun fine tuning my landings like this. But hey, you'll have that I guess. I still think that this engine isn't perfectly tuned however and like I said I worry it was run too lean for too long.
Anyway to find out how my engines health is? My compression is awesome, and the plane screams through the sky. I just have to deal with some crazyiness when it's on or near the ground. As long as it doesn't stall though, it's not a federal case. :)

Elad, 2k bill!? OUCH. What was it may I ask? Transmission? Those front wheels drives and some 4x4's are expensive to fix a transmission I have been told.
They told me it would be $170 which is alot less than I thought it would be. But the guy didn't seem very sure that was the problem. It's kinda like , well this is definetely what you need first (plugs, throttle body, tune up, oil change, wires, etc) Which is correct. Only time will tell. I just hope that's all it is and I kill two birds with one stone. The past due checkup/tune up and fixing this issue.

RE: Eagle 2 ARF & 4 Stroke Engine?

Sincraft, Sounds like too many cooks in the fire with your engine. I have an idea of what's wrong with your motor, but let's see if Don chimes in. He's the brains of the outfit.

My engines are tuned for reliability, not for every last rev. I usually go all year without messing with them. This year being the exception, with my 70 Surpass going bad. Don's gonna rebuild it for me before Spring. I have the parts already. I'm sure I didn't touch the needle on my Saito 50. What a sweet runner that is!

hey where do you get the saito's from? They are not at tower. Any suggestions?

thanks!

Sink Raft:

Horizon Hobby is the Saito importer. You can get them from most of the mail order sites except Tower/Great Planes/Hobbico. But most of them have the same prices as listed at Horizon.

I will add that Horizon's service department is the best I've dealt with, in the hobby field. They have cemented my 4c choice to the Saito brand.

Bill.

PS: How about the latest rework on your username? Haw. wr.

Bill, I had to LOL when I read it!!!! FUNNY. Maybe Sincrash---oops--Sinbuilder--oops-- Sincraft won't, but he'll get over it.

Hey, Are you still getting flying weather? It's 28 degrees here, winds at 20 mph and a wind chill of 15. Looks like I'll be working on my Focke Wulf this weekend. Too cold for any flying.

Tom Frump:

Visualize me, as a small child, making a face and pointing at you. I have the air conditioning turned on here.

I consider air temperature below 60F as unflyable. We might have three weekends in any given year that are that cold. I have told many people my servos don't work below 60F, some give me funny looks, but others ask where they can get some. Haw.

Yes, I am a confirmed "LollyTwat." That term is more commonly heard starting with "Candy" but this is supposed to be family oriented, And being a lollytwat I have no logical reason for moving from SE Virginia to Maryland when I retired, but that lasted less than a year, then I came here to Florida.

And If we can play with Sinking Cash's name we can play with yours also, can't we?

Visualize me, as a small child, making a face and pointing at you. I have the air conditioning turned on here.

Just rubbiing it in. Haw again.

Bill.

Frill Robyourson. My furnace just kicked in. Does that count?

I swear, when I retire, I'm getting out of this frozen region. Summers up here are great, but they can have the rest.

Burl has been laughing at my location too. He did say that he may come here for a visit. In the summer, of course.

I have to look at it this way. More time to build. I like that part of the hobby/sport best, anyway.

Its a sin to be a crash builder HA HA
s - the saitos are really nice motors just remember to give them some break in time and they will last you a long time the 91 -150 -180 are some of the more powerful around the ys or the supercharged os have lots more power but costs lots more I have a saito a magnum and an os I like them all

I have more hair than you. When I was in my initial growth spurt I grew so fast my head outran my hair and it all came out my chin. Hasn't caught up yet.

The tan airplane is fabric covered, it's about 20 years old. Still flies nicely.

Skinflasher has Fridays off work, so he must be lost, or buried beneath his recently repaired car.

Edad mite be out flying as he live in the warm belt, too.

Llib, I was just outside. My asphalt driveway is white! Looks like Nod and I will have to get our snowblowers ready for the coming season.

Here's a pic of my old and lamented Faichild 24R.

OMG. I miss 24 hours and BAM the thread takes on an completely different face. I alas, am not as witty as my elder fellow poster...however I must say..the humor in this thread was enough for me to literally LOL. Imagine if you will, coming in after 24 hours and seeing the play on words develop before my very eyes. :)

I'd post more and make a weak attempt at humor myself, but if you look at the time of this post you'd realize that the ability for me to post let alone stay awake is much like a miracle as I was up till 5am gluing and sanding. HA. Nope, no flying today tom. :( But tomorrow is going to be calm, and sunday even better. Or so those drunk *******s who call themselves weathermen say. :) Although I am kinda concerned about freezing something on my body. The temperature will only reach about 40 on sunday. But with the sun and a couple layers with one final thick layer of clothing, I bet I manage to stay out there attempting to start my most finiky engine for at least a couple hours.

Anyway, talk with you guys tomorrow. Thanks for the humor. It's making the snot balls made up 99% of balsa less agonizing. HA

Skin Rash:

Waddaya mean late? It's evening, but still a couple hours before bed time! At least for we who are fixed well enough to quit working a "Nine to five." Or convinced someone to pay us not to.

Anyway, hope you have an enjoyable time as your unmentionable body parts turn to ice and fall off.

Haw.

Nothing of mine is going to fall off! I'm staying in the shop today! I sit in front of a heat duct, staying nice and warm.

Don, you have too much time on your hands!!! Can't you find something constructive to do, like working on your Mystery Ship?

Sinbuilder, I thought you did your best work in the wee hours of the morning!

Cent Rack:

I think Ton O'Sun is calling you a "Lollytwat." And then talking about jumping out of his warm car and right back in. I admit I'm a Lollytwat, Don has just shown that he is one also. But you. You're the one going out putting the family jewels at risk.

Seems to me you should be calling him the lollytwat, and he should call you an idiot for risking the possibility of never looking at a woman again with lust in your mind. Longing for former times, perhaps, but never again with lust.

Haw.

Why haven't we heard from Dilly-Daley?

Bill.
