Official Parkzone Extra 300 thread
#28
hi guys,
Been a while since flying, been busy with other stuff... Got a gift card to LHS for Dad-Day...... Went in and the car kit I am wanting isn't in any more, and other things I'm wanting are backordered........ So I was pondering a couple options, I want a couple of the BNF ultra micro planes, the Sukhoi XP, and 4-Site..... I am also eyeing the P-51 BL after flying the demo model. ...... at 179 BNF that's a good deal.... then I spotted a plane I hadn't seen before........
Today I came home with an Extra 300 PNP, for an "introductory" price of $129.99........ when I noticed the price, the little Sukhoi went to the back burner........
I have a Gemini Biplane, it's fun , but I was hoping for a foamie to practice precision aero/ Routine type stuff with,....... I think with more setup and stick time it will be great, but a little more of a fun flyer than a routine flyer....
I am hoping this plane is a good learning aid........... she looks good, and the videos I've seen look like she's a good flyer........ crossing fingers and looking for my velcro........LOL

Looks like quite a few of you guys are having/will have feedback on this new 300 soon [sm=thumbup.gif] My LHS actually has 4 of them in stock, 2 BNFs & 2 PNPs...It's HARD to resist buying one, but I'm not ready for a 300 and I still have to finish and fly my Unique, so I guess I'll just have to be patient.

Just picked one up, flies great! Lots of power and good control. The only major issue I had was the landing gear compleatly ripped out / off after the 3rd landing. I exspected a lot more duribility, looks like a design flaw. Going to epoxi it back on and see how it holds.

Why? I love this little Rx. Can fly a Parkzone Stryker out of sight with it.

It has been way too windy the last few days for me to fly mine. Another guy in my club did get one and flew with the wind calmed down last night. Said it was really sensitive. He had same problem as above....the landing gear ripped out. He had to expoxy it back in too. He took the wheel pants off and put some light weight DuBro larger wheels on.
Hope to fly mine this week

Same here. Had the landing gear rip out first flight. Glued it back in and so far so good.
Hey scoot how's the range on that ar6110? Thought that was a park flyer reciever.
I have an extra one and was debating on putting it in a Stryker. The 25c battery that the
extra 300 uses should pack a punch for the stryker also.

Maybe it the heat here in Las Vegas, but many a plane has been lost here because an AR500 just stopped working in flight. One day at the field, 3 planes lost signal and nosed in. All AR500's. But I hear lots people saying they have good luck with them, that's great. If you like yours, I have no problem with that. Scoot

My gear came out third flight too. Removed wheel pants and put just a little larger wheels and has been fine since. Strongly recommend removing wheel pants if flying on grass, even if it's very short. The biggest issue I've had it plane seems to have too much upthrust. I trimmed it out to fly level at half throttle. When put to wide open throttle, plane climbs 45 degrees. When I bring power off, plane dives 45 degrees. Everyone seeing this or just me? I removed motor mount from firewall and added small washers one at a time between the firewall and mount on the top 2 bolts until it would trim up to fly level at all speeds. It is much more comfortable now but took 3 washers on both top holes. The good news is that it was a very easy fix. I didn't need to trim cowl or drill any new holes.

guess I answered my own question today. flew the stryker with the spectrum ar6110. Distance was well past where I wanted to be. Havent tried hovering the extra yet but it feels like it has the power to do it. goes where you point it besides the little bit of climbing it does at WOT. Not enough to really worry about and can be trimmed according to the way you fly. You'll love either the 26xp or the extra. depending on how much space you have. You will def get more flight time with the 26xp. I cant keep the batteries charged I fly it so much right out my front door.

A few flights with mine, with winds be careful seems the only time I have issues on landings and yes did lose the landing gear but easy fix, came in too high onto grass, any reasonable landings will handle quite well. If your a grass lander you'll need bigger wheels, else it a honey to fly.
Tho many as I have had issues with the landing gear, note it is compact and reasonably tough, very solid, it will survive a reasonable bounce landing, admit I'm not talented on landings, but zero to low winds its a no brainer coming in, take your time keep it flying on the touchdown, piece of cake !
Using the basic DX5I admit coarse on the elevator even at low throw but use to this transmitter with other models, I'm not the 3D pilot, but for aerobatics its off the charts. Goes where you point and stays on track like on rails, no complaints here. Nice to have a model that aileron rolls with ease just over half throttle, responsive but a fun ship ! Nearly flew today between the storms going thru, but holding off for better conditions.
Ground take off from pavement it goes up quickly, but even with the tail wheel, stays true, expected some issue but holds solid before airborne, nice feature !
Looks are great, have no complaints with this one, give it max stars, nice value plane with plenty of power, very compact simply throw in the back seat ready to fly, oh my ! Is this fun or what ...Hah BEST ..<>...

Same issue here with the landing gear and the upthrust. I went to an APC 12*6. Seems to be a different plane. With the APC it seems to have plenty of power to hover but I'm not so sure about rudder authority. I'm having a hard time keeping it standing up in a hover and if it falls to one side or the other I can't get enough rudder to bring it back. I'm flying with a DX7 and have it set to 150% on end points. Definately need some expo on the ailerons and Elevator. It also seems to want to be landed with a little power. It's definately not a floater. I think it's going to be a great Aerobatic plane but not too sure about the 3d. Guess I'll stick to my typhoon for my throw around 3d'r. I haven't been able to get the Extra into a knife edge spin yet. I'm really not sure what you would call it but it certainly looks impressive. I think HH has hit a home run if you overlook the LG issues. I'll definately keep mine in the truck for those quick afternoon fixes in the church parking lot. Don't know that I like it enough to carry it to the field though.

I was just down visiting in Jonesboro over week ago ! Quite warm weather down there, missed the Hobby Shop was closed the days I had a chance to check it out. You usually have quite breezy weather on your level flat land. Only had the Blade 400 and far from a seasoned flyer with that heli, nicked a blade but left before we could see if the shop there carried them... Dang, wished I met you ! Best...

phillipmorris,
Next time your down this way stop by the shop. My nephew Zach owns the store and I'm normally there helping him out on Saturdays. Definately have the 400 blades in stock. If not I have a few sets at the house. Stores closed on Sunday's and Mondays. Gotta have some play time. We normally fly on Sunday but it's been too hot the past few weeks. I have just been getting my fix with my foamies just before dark each night. I do run out in the driveway with the SR or the 400 for a quick fix throughout the day sometimes.

I haven't paid much attention on the flight time, I fly mine over 5 to 7 minutes and come home early as soon as I'm lined up correctly on a low pass simply land as need work there. Depending on throttles used I would imagine just under 10 minutes is close. Doesn't require alot of throttle for this puppie to move out, its a solid flyer indeed. If you have any skills on deadstick this ones a winner, it has some great floating ability, just keep things level for flying, take mine out even below tree top level quite aways on a turn and cut the throttle, makes it all the way home and then some, very nice ! They have a special on an extra battery, suggest you buy it, even have or 3rd or more if necessary, lower winds its a very easy lander !

Wow, you work at the hobby shop as well, amazing, peeked in the window and looked like you had some cool items there, sorry I missed you. If its the same shop, believe it had a different location few years back, now you were very close to our Hotel we stayed at the Quality Suites, nice rooms for the money. Hope to stop in the next time we are intown, usually its yearly but you never know.

philipmorris thanks for the info. I believe the videos and owners testaments of how this thing flies has convinced me to make the purchase tomorrow morning.
Now, there are too many negative reviews of the AR500 to convince me to buy the BNF version unless someone can tell me otherwise. I have a spare AR6100e. Does anyone have any reason why this would not be a good receiver? Would I be smarter to purchase a AR6200?
Sorry, I'm a bit new to this wonderful expensive world of RC and I am still trying to grasp the difference between these Spektrum recievers.

I havent had any issues with the ar500 even flying in heat. Its been in the 100s here lately. I have them in the extra and my p51d mustang. I give the mustang hell... mostly chasing birds and cows ha ha!!! broke it in half 3 times.. these foamies are awesome a little glue and tape and I'm back in the air. I'm a little more careful with the extra. As posted earlier I did put my 6110 in my stryker and had no issues with distance. the 6100 is an older version of the 6110. I don't see any issues with using it but others on here will probably say otherwise. I do love the bright orange paint scheme. keeping orientation is easy. she does like speed and doesn't do well at low speeds. it likes to wobble and dive but cruizin she is straight as an arrow.
